They had so many amazing songs it's hard to pick one as a favourite. I always loved this song, Words, I've Gotta Get A Mess.age to You. No auto tune - just pure talent. Oh and I love your reactions. So glad you love them so much. I could listen to Barry sing the phone book. The Guilty album they wrote for Barbra Streisand is still awesome - Barry did 2 duets with her

There's a great BeeGees song that features Maurice who always let the light shinecon Barry and Robin. It's calked Man in the Middle. About being a peacemaker and also about his addiction to alcohol. It's one of my favorites.

Sorry, but I'm going to make a personal comment here ... Your face just exudes kindness, tenderness and has a sweetness about it, while maintaining a very masculine quality also (& not just the beard. lol). I'm just an old 74 yr old romantic and those qualities are hard to find in men these days. Nice to see! ☺

Great, great song, so good sung by Barry. And in the chorus, together with Rob'n Mo, it gets to perfection. All three of them are genius songwriters and singers. Baz'n especially Mo also very good instrumentalists. Tell'ya one thing, the more you're divin' into their art of music, the more you're gonna be surprised of their ability, to match really every genre music has to offer. And in many comments you're gonna read things like "Robin has the best vocals" or 'Maurice is the one" and "Barry is keeper of my heart forever". Truth is, equality reigns! No Gibb over the other. The real magic is the three of them. So please to react to 'Words' (leadvocals Barry), 'And The Sun Will Shine' (Robin) and 'Trafalgar' (Maurice).

    • @AlamoDame7
      @AlamoDame7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

My sentiments exactly!! Yes, Robin's unique and heart-melting; Mo is such a gifted musician and so sexy; Barry is THE MAN-- but they are three together incomparable, over-the-moon legendary, and beloved as all-get-out. When Barry goes, I don't think I could get over it. No more Bee Gees sharing our earthly space.

    • @mzphillips53

Words is I think, my favorite of their songs. On To Love Somedody on the record you'll hear somebody hit a really high at the end of the song. After they sing "to love Somebody to love Somebody, the way I love you." Mo chimes in with the really high "OH, no. You don't know what it's like." Mo could hit the high notes right along with the other two. He just didn't get as much credit.

Barry said out of all the songs he wrote this is his favorite. You need to go back and watch the original video of this song to see them , super young. They had hits in the 60’s 70’s 80’s and 90’s. The song in the 90’s To Whom The Bell Tolls. And their voices hadn’t changed. There’s a song Barry sings by his self WORDS he wrote for his wife Linda

This song was way before the disco times. This was out in the 60's & was one of their 1st big hits & one of my favorites right at the beginning of their early days. Massachusetts & this song were back in their early days and both to this day are my favorites. I grew up with these guys & have been a fan from their beginning. I am now 69 yrs old & loved them all, including Andy. Watch the video of them when they first did this song. They had to lip sing cos that is how they did it back then on TV. It was the 60's. Also if you watch shows where they did interviews & they would just sing with just the guitar you can hear how each had their own sound but when they came together their harmony was just so on key & beautiful.

Great reaction like always. to love somebody was their second single released in 1967. They wrote beautiful love songs even when they were very young. A beautiful song to react to from their early days is How do you mend a broken heart. It was written after they got back together after being apart for 18 months when Robin left the group in 1969.

This entire concert is fun, I have it on dvd and still watch it. I openly admit that ROBIN is my Bee Gee (we all have our favorite lol) and would encourage you to look into songs where he sings lead. With that said I recommend you check out WORDS from this same concert. Barry sings this pretty much alone and you will see how he reacts with the audience and they with him, plus it's a beautiful song and has been covered by many artists including Elvis. FYI....their first number one hit was Spicks And Specks in Australia and they heard about it on the boat relocating back to Britain. They get back to Britain and nobody had ever heard of them LOL The Bee Gees rabbit-hole is a blast!

Hey, Kathy here - I LOVE this song and so glad you chose it. I grew up on listening to the Bee Gees, and this one was a favorite of mine. You want to see another version of this one? There was a Tribute to the Bee Gees, and Keith Urban, a country legend, was asked to perform this one. Barry and his wife of over 50 years was sitting in the audience. Keith not only sang it beautifully, but he is a master on the guitar, and he did a brief solo and brought the roof down on this song. And speaking of "singing" for someone, if I'm not mistaken, this one was for Barry's wife. Thanks for your reaction.

This song was written in 1967 for Otis Redding. Sadly he died in a planecrash before he could record it. So they recorded it themselves and released on their first UK album called 1'st. It has become their most covered song by others artists.
Artists like Tom Jones, Michael Bolton, Michael Buble, Bonnie Tyler, Kim Carnes, Janis Joplin and many more. There has been released more than 200 covers of this.

They did write To Love Somebody for Otis, but then decided to 1st record it themselves, for their album “Bee Gees 1st” (recorded March-April 1967). They released it as a single June 1967. Otis died approx 6 months later, Dec. 10, 1967. I saw an interview where they said Otis did hear it & liked it, & they understood he intended to later cover it, but he died before that happened).

"Words" "I started a joke" "How can you mend a broken heart" and so many others to choose from. They are such talented musicians, songwriters coming from very determined humble beginnings. This song was an early song released in 1967 way before the disco hits of '76 & '77! They originally wrote this song for Otis Retting and a few months after that showing it to him & making the deal, Otis died.😢 So they sang it themselves- big hit! Barry loved Otis Retting music & was inspired by him. Otis was a fellow Aussie.

Although I love all of the concert videos of the Bee Gees I have to say that you're doing yourself a great diservice by mostly watching those later concerts. I love watching the videoes from like 1967 to the early 70's. I'm 70 years old and was only about 13 or 14 when they broke onto the scene. I loved watching them on the Ed Sullivan Show just as much as I enjoyed watching the Beatles a few years before in 1964. There are also a lot od videos from British tv shows that you might want to watch. In the time period I'm talking about I was about 14, the twins were about 17 and Barry was around 20. I love seeing them again on the videos when they were teenagers. They were so cute. 😊

Listen to the original recording they did ... powerful and when Barry sings "I'm a man, can't you see who I am, I live and I breath for you" SO POWERFUL. You should listen to that version to get the feel of this song. They wrote this song for Otis Redding to record but because he passed before he could record it, they recorded it themselves. As I said in an earlier comment, I truly believe this song was really meant for them because it needs their 3 voices to give it that special sound that in the end made it special and a hit for them.

To tell you about the quality of character in the Gibb brothers: Barry Gibb had said they also gave the song to Bee Gees manager Robert Stigwood for his birthday. It wasn't meant in a homosexual way, but with a sense of deep gratitude for all that Stigwood had done for the brothers. Stigwood, who was "like an uncle," has said it was his favorite song by them.

@charlesstraight5499 It was written for Otis Redding but he died before he could record it. Barry said the song was actually about their manager. Barry Gibb explained in a June 2001 interview with Mojo magazine:
It was for Robert (Stigwood). I say that unabashedly. He asked me to write a song for him, personally. It was written in New York and played to Otis but, personally, it was for Robert. He meant a great deal to me. I don't think it was a homosexual affection but a tremendous admiration for this man's abilities and gifts.[11]

You should listen to BeeGees Don't turn out the Lights and then the BeeGees Collective version. The BeeGees Collective is an album by the kuds of all five Gibb siblings. Don't turn out the Lights has Steven who is Barry's eldest son, Maurice's son Adam and daughter Sammy, Robin's son Spencer and Andy's daughter Peta. I think the kids version may just be better. Andy had a heart condition that he never revealed to the family and the party lifestyle exacerbated it leading to his death from a cardiac episode.

It was so sad that he bought Johnny Cash's home after he died, was remodeling it, then it burned to the ground. He really wanted him in our community to carry on our music legacy: Cash, Orbison, Twitty, Mandrell are legends I grew up riding horses with

Barry's falsetto is good, but I appreciate a song with his chest voice.

I never realized that before. They are always talking to someone. It really draws you into their emotions.

His album Greenfields that came out in 2021 was Barry doing duets with famous country artists. You should check it out. He wrote this song for Otis Redding who died before he could record it, so they did, back in the late 60s. The fact that it has been covered by so many people since then speaks to how good it is. But the Bee Gees did it best.

Urban Cowboy hit in 1980 and that was pretty much the end of disco. There were still plenty of rock/punk/new wave dance clubs but many people started going to western clubs and listening to country music.

Such a beautiful song!! This was written and recorded in 1967. The original version is of young Bee Gees singing this. Love the Bee Gees!! Great reaction!!

I'm sure somebody has already commented on this but this song was written for Otis Redding by the Bee Gees and he died in the plane crash before he could record it, in the 70s . So even though this concert is in 1989 they perform music that they wrote in the 70s 80s 90s and on and on.

You should listen to Keith Urban doing this song in a tribute to the BeeGees. He changes it up a bit, but it is beautiful- and his guitar solo is amazing. In that same tribute Celine Dion does Immortality which was very moving as Barry had lost 3 brothers and she had lost her husband and brother by then.
