the whole band has been a challenge for me for over 8 years, and that in the best way!
I myself have been a musician for 40 years in various genres, not metal...but when I heard Jinjer for the first time, I knew something musically extraordinary was happening, and that is what "green surpent" proves once again...
    simply great!!!!!!!!
thanx for your profound reaction & warm greetings from germany

Discovered Jinjer in '18. First saw Jinjer live and met them too in '19 headlining at a club in Texas. I gave Tatiana a cookie monster shirt. I did tell her why. Saw them again in '22 in Texas. Jinjer is my favorite band of this century. I'm a 58 year old rock musician and Jinjer brought hope to me. I have all their CDs and await the time I can listen to their new album Duel in its entirety. 👍💪🤘

Great reaction & analysis - subbed.
    The drummer's name is Vlad.
A Russian idiom has the green serpent representing alcohol, and being bitten by the green serpent representing alcoholism. Tatiana has been sober for about 2 years, so this song is about her personal struggle.
This is some of my favourite vocal melodic composition from Tati, & I love her extensive use of her *gorgeous* head voice to hit highs in this piece, a part of her vocal repertoire that we've heard very little of before now. The section with the combined guitar & bass tapping with great tom drum groove is incredible, & I love the Opethy outro. Even the stripped down, simple chuggy riffs in the last two heavy sections are a welcome addition, as Jinjer fans usually have to struggle to head bang to Jinjer's weird rhythms & unusual, shifting time signatures (which I also love, of course).
This is a *great,* *beautiful* song, an instant Jinjer classic, IMO.

She can sing in Spanish too and as I understand it quite well (I wouldn't know). Words really are her domain. She does her own costumes as well and makeup. Just bursting with art and creativity. Jinjer hasn't been to my area for three years and I'm beginning to think they aren't going to make it here again. I don't know that it's the size of venues though. I hopped on a plane this year to see them in Denver and that place wasn't that large. Certainly bars are out at this point. More like at the smallest places that are just music venues.

lol Green Serpent is metaphorically referred to alcohol in russian. Bitten by green serpent in slavic tradition is symbolic of alcoholism and the depths of intoxication/addiction.....as for the song, the opeth outro is cool. Middle LOG breakdown is cool. Also kinda sounds like an angular proggy album cut on first listen, but quickly turns out to be a banger.....also tati looks hot here 😂😂

Tatiana writes most of their lyrics. She once said, in an interview, that she writes the lyrics in Russian first and then translates it to English.

As a general rule, the band writes the music first and sends it to Tatiana. She has to decide what the song is about and come up with lyrics and a vocal melody. Her original procedure (which she may still follow) was to write the story as Russian prose, and translate that into English poetry.
