    I love this video, thank you! I have a similar system set up, I'm originally from the Caribbean, so we had to prep yearly for hurricane season and now that we live in Southern California, earthquakes and fires are the norm. We also have backpacks (so our hands are free) 3, for myself, hubby and our dogs, in case we have to evacuate. We've chosen 2 meeting points from either direction of our home in case we're seperated. It may seems a bit paranoid, but the alternative could be quite scary...

      @SimplyCherie  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +IchNaturally That is perfect!! Great job with all that prep and the meeting points. I need to refresh the meeting points with my family. We have one for a house fire. But we don't have one for when we need to bug out.

    Love this, I am going to make one of these boxes for my family. It also seems like going camping and using up the food that is about to expire could be a great way to rotate the food!

      +crazy4RxLexus350 What happens when you don't have electricity and it's cold out? I used to live in the Midwest and luckily never experienced no electricity during a blizzard or storm.

    You'd need matches/lighter plus Bunsen burners (for cooking/heat). I presume other items like tool and first aid kits etc will be covered in a separate video. I'd invest in lightweight packable blankets (the kind they sell for the trunks of cars that efficiently conserve body heat) as well. In addition, I understand the need for snacks, but in a situation where you may need to extend the 72 hours, I would give up the chips (which take up a lot of space) and add foods that would be the emergency stash inside of the emergency stash!

      +YT4Me57 Ok thank you for the info and advice! I have a separate box for supplies and a burner. Do you think mylar blankets suffice?

    TY Cherie, a great reminder. I missed the prep link you created your emergency binder from...?
    One of the issues of living in Arizona, is dealing with high daytime heat & cold nights, because of our desert environment.
    How do would you suggest having enough drinking water?
    Then, the awkward part. Managing our restroom needs.
    What I've done, is purchase the heavy duty trash compactor bags. They are lightweight, but sturdy enough to handle human waste. They can be attached into the toilet bowl, under the seat rim.
    Do you have a generator for electricity?
    I was so bummed. A couple years ago, Costco had a portable solar generator. It was the size of a large cooler, with wheels & handle to pull it. All of the solar panels slid out, and it had all different plug outlets & USB ports. It had an excellent output, and very affordable at $700.
    I had purchased the blueprints for DIY solar array & small wind turbine, to generate power, long ago. The package also came with heirloom seeds. I have no gardening skills, and routinely kill houseplants. But, they'd be valuable to those whom have the ability.
    However, I became gravely ill, before I could build anything. Plus, tricky to do when apartment living.
    The Wagan portable unit from Costco weighed 85 pounds. Too heavy for me to move. I ended up having to return it for my money back, because my paid into disability illegally ended my coverage.
    I thought I'd just repurchase, when my benefits were reinstated.
    Well, I'm still appealing, 1.5 years later.
    And, my local Costco stopped carrying the solar generator.
    Currently, I am helping on a man's crowdfunding project for a power generator, that works off grid.
    We have come close to an EMP event more than once, which would mean no more electricity, ever.
    I have come close to passing over a few times, but it is not my time. And I look forward to this transition shift culmination.
    I am too sick to jump through the hoops necessary, to obtain services. However, I have had siblings far away, that are making phone calls, doing paperwork, etc.
    God bless them.
    We really didn't know how complicated the system is. It has been simply miraculous, that I've made it this far.
    In any case, I am still trying to prep, even though I'm mostly bedridden, and reliant on devices & a caregiver, to keep me alive.
    I am too young to kick the bucket.
    I have much to do, yet, to complete my life's missions.
    Thank you!

    • @SimplyCherie
      @SimplyCherie  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Elaine Marie Girl, take care of yourself! No generator yet. And yes, I understand the restroom needs. I can address that in another video along with drinking water. I put the links now - I just remembered before reading your comment.

    • @elainemarie9470
      @elainemarie9470 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      LiveLoveLatte Thank you! I look forward to checking out your links.
      I try not to freak out, because I am differently abled, about the possible outages. Previously to becoming so acutely ill, I was strong physically & mentally, and felt well-equipped to manage the future. I was also in a committed relationship; whom promptly bailed, once I became ill. Life lessons.
      GBU & TYJCY.

      +Kay at Shem Homeschool Academy You're welcome! It's interesting - I think when it's a walk away/bug out, salty foods is good. It helps retain water. I experienced it first hand hiking 9 miles up and down the Grand Canyon impromptu and 13 miles one way in Havasupai.

    • @SimplyCherie
      @SimplyCherie  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joshua Moon I started with watching Prepper channels on TH-cam. When I found the Printables Emergency Binder and the bowlfulloflemons blog, that helped me to actually start. So I started with the water, then the food, then the emergency kit. I store it in my garage.

      +Disorganized Wife Glad this is motivating. Yes, I have a stock of water. I wasn't sure whether to show it here or show it in another video. In her ebook, water is a separate set up, which is what I eventually followed. Good luck with your kit! Please show on your channel if you can.

    Do you have any idea on how to store personal documents for an emergency? So they are on hand 😅

    • @SimplyCherie
      @SimplyCherie  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +marisela alfaro Yes, the Printables Kit I put in the description box explains that. Basically, we have to make a copy of everything - SS, Drivers License, house deed, passports. They go in the Binder and the binder goes with us. The originals stay in a fireproof safe. As long as we have copies, we can get originals eventually.

      Hi Jerome! That's great you put my video on a playlist. Here is a really old video that goes into detail of my first aid kit (but it is pretty much the same as the other video): th-cam.com/video/E-TjoomQzzY/w-d-xo.html I need to do a few more videos - I have our bug out bags for a family of 4 and my dachshund's bug out bags that I have always planned to film but have not yet...I know this seems far away but September is emergency preparedness month. So I hope to be better focused in order to film what I want to.
