You should be proud mate, thanks for all the videos. I suppose this day comes for all of us at some point. I know we all love mountain biking but there's more to life as well, longevity and quality of life.

Mate - although I've only just found your videos I totally hear the struggles, I have had shoulder pain for a long time, not through dislocation, but just general mountain biking and various breaks and slams and concussions. It's a dangerous sport and it's very hard on the shoulders. You've made a tough decision, but the right decision. Happy healing bro - don't return too soon, make sure you're strong before you get back on the pedals!

That's a shame for you Mike, but no point making that injury worse.
Many thanks for some really fantastic content over the years, your style, chat and humour made this channel one of the best out there imo. Sad i never got to one of the group rides. Another lesson in avoiding "ahh i'll do that soon/next year"..... Enjoy the bike, just go easy out there. And many thanks again.

Loved your videos mate , and it is really sad to hear their ending . However you have got to look after yourself. I hope you find a way to enjoy biking still , even if it's just 20 mile pub tours with friends.

Good luck and brave decision. Never say never, you are still young and I reckon (push) bikes may still feature in the future. Just being out in nature is also a thrill and very good for your health, mentally as well as physically (bikepacking!?) Thanks for the videos and good luck :)

Very sensible, however, I did it the other way around. Massive highside at Rockingham Speedway, broke myself, and then started riding mtb as part of my rehabilitation....
We all gotta do what we've all got to do.

Aw I’m gutted for you! You never know after the surgery you may end up with a eeb one day.
I say this, due to I smashed up my shoulder and they had to cut my rotator cuff to get to the labral ligament to put anchors on it (playing navy rugby , had to wait for a fair while for the surgery)
Fast forward 4 and a bit years later I’d say the shoulder they operated on is stronger than my other one now , I only started picking up my bikes again 1/2 years ago I’m not on same level as you were though. One day maybe.

Hi Mike, I’ve really enjoyed your videos and if it’s any help, I’m a designer and a photographer, and I get a buzz from getting that money shot with photography, whether it’s getting on my belly on the dirt and getting that angle, or just being creative with different shots and ideas. I’ve also got a motorbike and I love it, that is a discipline that you can cruise and gives a great sense of freedom and fun, especially when the weather is nice 😊 another idea might be taking yourself on a m European tour on the bike, jump on the ferry if you’re not too far from the coast or something. Either way, I hope you find something to get your teeth into and thanks for your helpful videos 🙌

11 weeks ago now i had an off, dislocated my shoulder, and broke the top of my humorous, unluckily the part that attaches all ligaments, tendons and muscles to the top of the shoulder. 3 weeks after the off i went through the operation where they installed a plate and 9 screws. The next 4 weeks i have never felt pain like it in my life, and i have broken a few bones through out my life time, i'm 50 btw. I have very little movement as yet, but doing physio 3 times a day. Having to quit MTB is genuinely concerning me, i'm busting to get back on the bike again, although i know that's impossible right now, but i'm worried that it'll never be good enough for me to ride comfortably again, if at all. Progress with movement is extremely slow, but sure i can only hope for the best.

I’ve never met you, chap, but always enjoyed your videos.
I came into MTB as a result of being properly smashed up on a supermoto and banned from bikes by my wife - and my injuries. That meant giving up a career in motoring journalism, too, which was quite the wrench.
New doors open when old ones close so I look forward to seeing your new direction.
Review the moto, though. There is a shit-ton of energy in a crash and I see moto crashes where the rider is the victim of the careless/stupid/intox behaviour of others almost weekly.
    Steady away chief 🫡
