    Good to see someone mention the focus limiter on the 85F2. That lens gets a lot of negative comments about slow focus but the focus switch makes a bigger difference with that lens than any other I've used. My go-to for most weddings is the 85F2 and 351.8. Great video.

      Great combo, and agreed! It's absolutely necessary to use the focus control. Get those macro shots of rings when you need em, but then flip the switch and shoot the couple from the far aisle during the ceremony! :)

    On APS-C there is a must shout-needed to the RF 18-150mm. One lens for a lot of variability at pretty good F stop too (considering the range)

  • @scotthunter4
    @scotthunter4 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    When I brought my Canon R8 I immediately purchased the RF 24mm, 35mm and 85mm macro lenses as I do landscape photography but I also like shooting photos of plants, flowers, insects etc so I appreciated the close focusing and macro capabilities. I also brought the 24-105 F4 thinking I would benefit from also having a zoom lens to cover everything in between plus a bit of extra reach, but I ended up returning it as it's simply not as sharp as the non-L prime lenses despite it costing 3 times as much as one of those lenses. So I brought the 70-200 F4 instead and I find that to be a truly excellent lens which pairs really well with the wider focal length primes. With the 70mm at the wide end it also covers the gap between my 35mm and 85mm nicely and doesn't compromise on image quality.

  • @tommanseau6277
    @tommanseau6277 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This is great - for a full frame body. Everything shifts a big w/ the APS-C bodies. The 50 mm becomes the 85 equivalent, the 24 becomes that 35 mm, etc.

    I’d also like to add the RF 100-400 f5.6-8. For an inexpensive telephoto the results are nice and it’s fast enough to track small wildlife like birds and shoot sports.. suffers a bit in low light but with the right light it’s great!

    In the Canon world, the best value right now IMO is an R6 mark I paired with a 24-105 f4L, 16 2.8, and 50 1.8. Better if you can get these second hand. Use the 24-105 most of the time; the R6 low light is fantastic and shooting at F4 is no problem except in the darkest of environments. Use the 16 when you really need ultra wide coverage. Use 50 for low-light and shallow DOF portraits. This whole kit can cover pretty much all situations except professional sports/birding, while maintaining a very low size/weight profile.

    Excellent review. My only disagreement is regarding your quick dismissal of the 24-105 4-7.1 STM. Yes, it’s variable aperture and not weather sealed but there is virtually no difference in image quality from the RF 24-104 f/4 L IS. I’ve done many, many comparisons on the occasions where I’ve had both . Try it.

    • @mirasga
      @mirasga 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@tallpinoy RF lenses are also smaller in use due to the absence of the EF-RF adapter. Smaller bags can be used allowing for smaller and lighter setup.
      IQ wise, RF 24-105mm only has a slight edge over the EF. My motivation for upgrading to the RF lenses is not primarily about IQ but size, weight, and ergonomics.
      As regards the 50mm, it becomes necessarily large to bring along due to the adapter. I have the RF50mm and I can carry it all the time. Though I prefer the rendering of my Tamron 45mm F1.8, however it weighs a lot, so I don't bring it often as a result.
      If you have no RF lenses, the adapter is an non issue since it lives on the camera. But if you have several EF lenses and RF lenses in use, switching lenses WILL become annoying.
      BTW, I also have both EF24-105mm mark I and II as well as the EF 50mm F1.8.

      I suggest 600mm F11 for taking moon and wildlife. It does struggle at low light but inexpensive and major advantage is light weight compared to other bazooka long range lenses so I can take for traveling

      Quick question… isn’t focus distance measured from sensor? You showed it from the front of the lens

      I do have expensive glass and won’t deny that it’s “better”, but when I want small, light, and better than good enough, the non-L RF glass is awesome. RF 16/35/85 paired with an OG R body is my go to for travel.

    Thank you. So infinitely much. I've just got my first camera. And are on a budget. I have been looking for a good lens that is cheap.🫡🫡🫡
