Kenny! That's genius! I was looking for a way to do this kinda thing with keyboard sounds for Sunday worship choosing the sound quickly. You made it simple!
Just found your channel today and i have been using reaper for about 6 years. You have taught me so much just today. My music is going to be on another level because of you. So thank you so much please never stop.
I saw this video years ago, but never needed it until this week. I found this again and studied it in great detail. Have a project with 4 very different guitar parts for a video I'm doing, that need to switch quickly between them. Foot switches to select a track weren't fast or precise enough. The Mute/unmute envelopes made this a piece of cake. Thanks again for all your very useful videos.
This is exactly what I was looking for, particularly how to automate the change of channels from distortion to clean and viceversa when recording. Thank you so much!
This is absolutely perfect, exactly what I needed! Now I can switch clean to distortion on STL Amphub (which currently has no MIDI switching internally) whilst playing live.
I finally was able to make this work but alas, switching between tracks causes a small gap between sounds, making it impossible to use for playing live. Still a good trick, I guess. Thanks Kenny.
I just discovered myself the 2nd way a few days ago in order to practice at home with a backing track. But the 1st way seems better in situations like rehearsals or live where you don't play over a metronome. Thanks a lot
Hi Kenny! I Think it would be very cool to show how you can achieve this with SWS live config which allow to do the same thing with A LOT MORE possibilities. With Live configs, you can litteraly turn REAPER into a gigantic pedal board or presets manager for any MIDI or AUDIO instrument
Great! I wonder how to use Reaper to help us to understand build guitar presets and later create it in any platform (Fractal, Kemper, Bias, Guitar Rig...)
hello! i bought a midi controller to control the toggling of the tracks in the same manner as you did. my question is, if i am playing this live and i toggle in between tracks to activate the preset effect, will the transition be as smooth as how you would with activating a pedal? if not, how do i make it smoother?
@@toodiesel basically i just assigned the tracks to the midi trigger. my midi controller is programmed to function as the arrow keys on the keyboard. so i then assigned the tracks to be activated when the specific arrow keys are triggered (ex: track 1=arrow up; track 2=arrow down; etc.). i have found a way to make the transition seamless but i forgot how i did it. sorry..haha
Nice tutorial! I have one question. How can I change actions using MIDI without having a MIDI controller? Reaper doesn't recongnize MIDI notes when I try to map actions using the virtual keyboard built in Reaper.
@@TheNoiseFloorav Sorry, I didn't explained very well. I want to play live using Reaper. I have a track to send MIDI Program Change signals at specfic times to change the tracks that I'm using. The sugestion to mute some tracks is CPU intensive and I don't have a fast laptop. How can I map an action to a MIDI note without need a MIDI Controller? I think this way is less CPU heavy.
@@TheNoiseFloorav Thank you ! That was so obvious ! By the way, if i select several tracks at once, i can't find a way to unselect them all at once... Do you know how to do this as well ?
@@TheNoiseFloorav You're right, but i thought there was a default keystroke or mouse modifier for this... I guess i'll use the actions menu then (and maybe set a keystroke for it).
would you recommend ezmix? I'm looking for some amp/effect simulators for guitar and bass. i figure if it's good enough for Kenny it's gotta be good, right?
ezmix is really easy to use, but everything is in a closed box, you can't access the intersting parameters. If you want a job done uickly and good enough, ezmix is good. but it's not a "precie" tool, I would say
I have done a fairly extensive test of all the guitar amp Sims I could find. My favorite is without a doubt Bias Amp 2 combined with Bias FX 2. Together you can build just about any guitar rig you can imagine within reason. To go with the bare-bones entry setup you'll spend around $120-ish. They have 3 packages available each has more features along with a larger price tag. With Bias Amp 2 you can create any amp that has ever existed and several that have never existed. You can pick your input section and tubes, tone section and tubes, output section and rectifier and tubes and also pick your transformer type. You can also set the bias to extreme levels without risking tube life. (Obviously) so you can experiment with running the tubes extra cold or hot.... Then moving to Bias FX 2 you can put your favorite amp or amps together with your own pedal board design, and any combination of cabinet and speakers (as long as the speakers are celestion or as long as you get the mid or above versions in which you can import any speaker/cabinet/mic combinations... It's seriously good and to be completely honest, if I was still gigging I would have no worries using a laptop and an interface di'd directly into the PA and leave the pedalboard and amp at home! That is coming from a guy with an $8k guitar rig complete with boutique pedals and a Dr. Z Rx Jr 1x12" combo. The amp Sims nowadays are easily as good as the very expensive and prolific options from Fractal and Kemper. In fact I could build a rig as great sounding as one of those options for less than 1/5 - 1/10 the price! Using this tutorial and a $100-150 USB interface, I need to add a couple 1-3' guitar cables and a stereo Di, and maybe a midi pedal to switch presets. What a completely compact, versatile and amazing guitar rig! One last plug for both pieces of software...Bias Amp 2 has a modelling option that will allow you to record and match any amp sound. Also Bias FX 2 has a way to model your guitar and then make it sound like any other guitar This is particularly cool as I can make my Fender Custom Deluxe Telecaster sound like a Gibson Les Paul. That is hugely cool and useful as well. If I were to use this as my guitar rig I would use a 2 input interface and plug my electric into one input and my acoustic into the other. In one small package that could easily fit into a backpack, I would have both my electric and acoustic rigs. Seriously excellent solution! By the way, NO I'm not sponsored by nor do I work for the company who makes Bias software.

If your computer supports it, the fastest or maybe the simple way is like in this video, a preset / a track ... Simultaneously the guitars are recorded (or played) on all the tracks but, you are going to draw the points of Mute (Unmuted) in each moment of change, just as this video exemplifies you. But if your computer does not support multiple instances of the Guitar Rig simultaneously, then I understand that it works better in terms of consumption than programming a single track with the automation of changing Guitar Rig user presets. Get the envelopment corresponding to each preset change you need and draw the automation points you need during the timeline.
