You rock Trey! Thanks for the review! I've been playing guitar obsessively for 24 years now, I own MANY guitars, including an Ibanez MM1 (Martin Miller's AZ Prestige) with Bare Knuckle Silo pickups, which cost me around 3000 USD in total. Still, since I have an old set of Bare Knuckle Juggernaut pickups that is not currently installed in a guitar, I decided to give this Monsoon a try and ordered one! I'm not really skeptical, since I own a Harley Benton Fusion-III from Thomann and an Eart GW2 headless guitar from Amazon, and they are both super well built where it matters the most. Precise CNC machines now allow manufacturers to make CRAZY tight neck pockets, which is usually the deal breaker on a cheap guitar (something you cannot easily fix). The use of good tone wood and those rounded end stainless steel frets (even though they are not high grade SS) is a total game changer in the world of affordable guitars. The crazy thing with this Monsoon is that they pulled it off for even less money than the Eart, M Musi, Harley Benton and all the other modern ''good'' affordable guitar. One thing though... Unfortunately, this is NOT a Graphtech nut. Even when people are pointing out that they should've used Graphtech or Bone, The Bald Shredder only replied ''the Deluxe version has a bone nut'' (which pretty much confirms that the regular Monsoon doesn't have a Graphtech nut). It's a cheap black plastic nut, which is definitely the weak point on this guitar. I've read from a few users that the strings were already digging into the slots after a few weeks. That will be an instant upgrade when I get mine. Fortunately, it's one of the cheapest guitar mod, but I still don't understand why Leo Jaymz made all of these crazy good upgrades over the years, listening to users like The Bald Shredder... but the 3rd generation Monsoon still has a cheap plastic nut. They could have raise the price by 10$ and make the guitar PERFECT (considering the price, of course). Still, I can't really complain since it's such an easy fix!
Before I fixed it, my American Fender Strat had 8 high frets, sprout, bad neck angle, chipping on the edge of the fretboard, and you're telling me these guys are sending out perfect guitars for $230 from China. Take notice Fender, especially for what you charge.
I got one of the Monsoons they sold at NAMM. Didn't have the burled top, the roasted maple neck, or the ball end frets (which I don't believe are stainless steel, just ball end nickel) and even that was a killer guitar. Every bit the guitar my Dean Thoroughbred X was at half the price. It's crazy how much bang you can get for your buck in guitars these days.
Leo Jamz is getting better & better.. looks like a Kiesel or ESP High Dollar 💵💵💵💰 🎸 guitar. Love the black 🖤 Hardware & the burl wood grain. Full Size Pots Alnico 5 pickups... Yeah that guitar will kill most guitar brands up to about $2000 ... Awesome Riffs... Cheers 🍻🥃🥃🎸🎵🎶🎶🎶
I love that you come straight out the gate with some kick ass shredding metal riffs then to prove this amazing axe is no one trick pony follow it up with some clean tone home grown tele style twang, hell yeah! i am as down with Waylon or Merle as i am Quorthon, Alexi Laiho or Dime . Serious kick ass demonstration start to finish, i need one of these in my arsenal and soon!
You seem to be enjoying your guitar. They sound killer. I hope you and Sean will be at the Orlando guitar show. I'd like to pick your brain on that guitar.
Whoever calls this guitar ugly hasn’t seen the green and brown Leo Jaymz! 💩🤢 😂😉 But for real, the burl top and paint job is gorgeous. It’s very similar to an Ibanez I’ve seen for at least 4 years now (forget the name - maybe the idgegz83!jdheiah 😂😂😂). Sounds great too - nice pickups for shresdy My only “beef” is the lack of a tone pot and knob. I’d even love to see two tones for blending between pickups. Having just a single volume knob is quite limiting. People say you can adjust tones on your amp, but most people don’t sit right on top of their amp (or computer), don’t want to keep moving/bending to fiddle with amps/and someone wanting to play on stage will need an EQ or other pedals to really dial it in. I think it’s nice to get it dialed in on a guitar and be able to change things up or blend pickup tones on the fly while playing. Sure you can mod the guitar and add a tone pot/knob or two, but most people won’t want to bother, won’t want to spend more money to have someone do it, or won’t be able to do it themselves. I think most guitarists would agree - it’s a very niche choice to only want a volume knob. That being said, would be perfect if they sold some of these guitars with 2 tone knobs, but even 1 would help. I’m sure they are selling well, but they’d sell even better if the specs would appeal to more people. Enjoy it, Trey! That’s a showstopper!
Awesome clean tones on that Guitar & You know how to make it sing Brother. A bit to flashy for my tastes but still a sweet guitar... Just added the Gilmour switch to My Squier (Luv It) & Soldering up a Strat o Blaster Circuit for it, Then I'll be able to Play some Grateful Floyd 🤣 As Always, Thank You for the Video Brother & Have a Great Week... P.S. Q-Tron Nano Rocks !
Monster playing, bro! Did Sean open the whole thing up, measure pups readings, pots, etc.? All check out electronically? CRAZY great for the money! 🎸 💵😃👍🏻
@TreyShreddings How'd you get your hands on that? I have two first gen Monsoons, and have been looking for second gen for weeks. Can't find them anywhere!
@@TreyShreddings Unfortunately, that's gen 1. Gen 2 has binding on the next and a roasted maple neck. I think Gen 2 must have sold out very quickly, and now the sellers are trying to get rid of remaining Gen 1 stock. 🤷♀
@@TreyShreddings I recall Sean (SMG) reviewed one of their $ 139 (?) guitars. It wasn't terrible, Sean can fix them, but it needed better pickups & neck/fret work like they all do at that price point.
They aren't all good. Some have unlevel frets, bad neck pockets, bad tuners. You have to check everything - take the neck off. But most of them are fine.
That thing absolutely rocks! Thanks for the demo Trey, Sean pointed you in the right direction with this one.
You bet! I’m glad I got it! It’s killer!

It was mindblowing how great this guitar was right out of the box.

The only thing he didn’t do was get the readings on the pickups. You can check out his video on the scar my guitar channel!

i appreciate it man! enjoy your new guitar. the best way to support me is to either become a member, or just watch the videos.
I was waiting for you to bust into Cliffs of Dover
Doesn't have a Graphtech nut. It's plastic. That and the pups being a bit noisy are my only complaint with mine.
👍
I gotta have one of those
@TreyShreddings How'd you get your hands on that? I have two first gen Monsoons, and have been looking for second gen for weeks. Can't find them anywhere!
I posted a link in the description of this video! They had a few left last I looked!

Do you have any live content of this guitar?
I don’t other than this TH-cam video
But how does it hold up gigging? Will it travel or fall apart if you take it on the road?
I played it a couple of shows and it seemed to hold up fine. I just wish it had a tone knob.
@@TreyShreddings Sean can put one of those on easy. I'm waiting for them to do an 8 string version.
@@TreyShreddings how do the pickups respond to high volume? Can they handle larger rooms?
@@sodapopkidd the pickups were wax potted so no issues with squealing, it did everything i needed to do to play a show.
Blame Shawn for my prescense
It’s all his fault! Haha
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
👍
Amazing.............FU...You're amazing
Thanks 😆
Went to buy and is sold out
The blue flame is in stock, same specs.
Hey Trey what's level 25?
We were playing Diablo lol
Me thinks Eric johnson
🖐🤘
Are the frets true Jumbo?
I’m not an expert on frets but they seem to be
The $ 100 LJ's need help, apparently $ 230 is the way to go.
i havent tried their 100 option but this thing screams!

Because it’s actually a good guitar..
Trey Rippin that mofo up.
