    Welcome to the Martial Arts Journey TH-cam channel!
    My name is Rokas. I'm a Lithuanian guy who trained Aikido for 14 years, 7 of them running a professional Aikido Dojo until eventually I realized that Aikido does not live up to what it promises.
    Lead by this realization I decided to make a daring step to close my Aikido Dojo and move to Portland, Oregon for six months to start training MMA at the famous Straight Blast Gym Headquarters under head coach Matt Thornton.
    After six months intensive training I had my first amateur MMA fight after which I moved back to Lithuania. During all of this time I am documenting my experience through my TH-cam channel called "Martial Arts Journey".
    Now I am slowly setting up plans to continue training MMA under quality guidance and getting ready for my next MMA fight as I further document and share my journey and discoveries.

The headbutts were based too, he screwed up with the submission attempt, should've tried to get both legs to the left for leverage and overpower knife hand (idk if letting go with non-knife controlling one was a possibility cuz camera angle). For someone who has no experience in such scenarios it was amazing!

    My assessment:
    1. Jeff is a pro MMA fighter, and being well trained and in shape, he managed to overcome the empty-handed challenges well.
    2. Rokas' aikido background is showing in some areas, and he has great BJJ grappling skills that helped him survived. That aikido background seems to help him with the bat.
    3. Seth is not as well conditioned as some of the guys here, but he still did great, and he is good with weapons defense.
    4. Ramsey's age is showing, but I love the knife compliance. In fact, it is the best knife defense ever.
    5. Matt really showed his stuff here, and his bat disarm is the best despite the helmet thing.
    6. Mike's law enforcement background was well utilized, though he had a size disadvantage. He is in the worst shape like Seth, but damn! That was the best knife disarm ever!

    Glad to see the next episode. It really goes to show that no matter how good your cardio is, nothing can prepare you for how dangerously draining it is to be in such a high pressure situation. But it does definitely help to be in good shape.

    If you've already watched this, consider watching it again. Have it playing in the background. Run it on .25x speed and let it play all day. The production value is insane and we need to convince the primordial chaos "blind idiot god" that is the TH-cam algorithm that this is worth promoting. This needs factors more eyes and views than it is getting. Great work Rokas, and fight that fight to break onto the front page of TH-cam!

      That was the first video I ever saw with Mike in it! I love how full-circle this has come. He said he thought it was nonsense, then in the same video saw it happen in front of him. Mike's the kind of guy that adjusts his view based on new evidence. He went on to practice this and now he's pulled it off live for all of us to witness. If he didn't already have such a name for himself I might call him Knife Kick Mike. 😄

    It was interesting to me how effective your Aikido training was in this - not because of your fancy rolls and throws, but because you flowed around nicely with it all and gave until you space until you had your plan, which you were then able to execute.

    This is such a cool concept. We practice stuff like this at krav, but never with this kind of intensity (and since we don't have protective gear like this, and we have solid floors, we can't do it like that either). It's cool to see the realistic outcomes of scenarios like this, especially how many people actually chose to simply hand over the money when confronted with a knife. It's what we're always told to do as well.

  • @WinterSon91
    @WinterSon91 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Had high expectations and the episode didn't disappoint. One thing that struck me : with all the protective gear, the concern for injuries and the defender being blinded at first, striking wasn't as potent as it normally would and almost every fight seemed to be decided by grappling.
    Looking forward to the next one!

  • @StarKnightZ

    This was great. I think this is the best practical deconstruction of the myth in some martial arts circles that bring a martial arts master somehow puts you above a typical assailant when really it only gives you a slight edge and coming out of it will be so hard fought!
    One piece of feedback: it would be great if the uniforms or protective gear were colour coded such that it's really obvious who is the attacker and defender, i.e. like Olympic judo. It would also help the watchability if each competitor had their own colour too so in the competitor v competitor fights you know at a glance who is fighting.
    But overall I'd rate this the best martial arts content out there, feel more real than UFC!
    Excellent show!

    • @kullenberg
      @kullenberg ปีที่แล้ว

      I fully agree. There appears to be different colors on each contestant's rashguard, but it was hard to see with all the gear in the challenges. If it would be possible to make each fighter's color stand out more in highlight if there is a season 2 it would help tremendously telling them apart in the scenarios with multiple assailants. I will definitely chip for crowd funding as well.

  • @-ZTUN-
    @-ZTUN- ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very interesting self defense lessons I learned from this one:
    Size definitely matters.
    Conditioning matters more than expected.
    Striking is the better choice in 1v2.
    Fighting not always the best way out. (The ones that fought the knife did very well but got stabbed)
    Training can potentially make you "blind" for defense options outside the usual ruleset.
    These are all obvious but seeing these things play out in a semi realistic setting just goes to show how important some of those factors are...
