Baker Street at FM Panama, on the bridge of the MS "Alouette Arrow"... in 5 minutes we will welcome the New Year, we are entering the locks, the steward is distributing glasses of champagne for the sailors and pilots... the mood is supposed to be joyful, but for me, the helmsman, I was at home listening to Gerry ...that's why I always remember this song and it is associated with sad moments, of which there were many in my profession, but this one is especially memorable... ikona Zweryfikowane przez społeczność
I would have loved to have learned sax, but I can't even play the fool, I am totally in awe of musicians, that are so gifted, so talented! But this is tribute to a big mistake, that became an iconic, and legendary landmark in the history of music. A true bummer with an incredible outcome, a legendary ongoing adoration from the older, and the young!! Interesting fact is the "sax " part was originally intended for the guitar, but at the studio they realised it had ben lost,, probably left on the train,, Anyhow a group had just finished recording and were about to leave , so they asked if they had a spare guitar, alas no was the reply,, but we can lend you a sax if that's of any use,,,,,,, an iconic piece of music was born!
Raphael Ravenscroft played that memorable sax solo on the original album and legend has it that he was paid ₤25 for it! More than 40 years later, it remains the most instantly-recognizable sax sounds in music. In my humble opinion, the tribute should go to Raphael, not to Gerry.
@@markdon8940 Correct.Gerry wrote the bloody song AND the sax riff.Ravenscroft merely played it as was his requirement as a session man.I heard he even tried to claim royalties for it.Da noive of da man!
Did I hear a vocalist?? I'm sure I did although you wouldnt have known as the camera operator chose not to feature him,or the other musicians,Fair play to the skins man,the bass man and the beautiful solo from the lead guitarist. Its not ALL about saxophone you know. Its a tribute to Gerry's song.
Are these all local musicians? That must have taken some preparation and rehearsal to get it so pretty near perfect.I know there is another video on TH-cam where the vocalist seems to be making up the lyrics as he goes along. Not too professional. The large sax group seem to be getting it on pretty well too with a good mix of ages and ability. Are the backing band local,I wonder?

If you're a sax player, this is absolutely wonderful. It brought tears to my eyes.
Haha most sax players I know roll their eyes at the very mention of it!
This is fantastic! What an orchestra! Gerry was a genius to have created this masterpiece. And the people of Paisley are wonderful people! Wonderful!

Gerry wrote the sax riff originally for guitar so gerry takes the credit just like rod tempton take credit for thriller
