Thank you for never doing sponsor product blocks and all that junk that almost every channel seems to do nowadays. You and Mustie1 have all my respect for that. Just keep doing what you love.
Well they do need money and its like 7 taps on your phone to skip it lol
If its sponsors that can relate to their viewers its not so bad. If its random crap like raid shadow legends then its very annoying lol. But not sponsors keeps that old youtube feel and I like that
Why not? He could maybe hit wd up and get a sponsor that would be cool just no more vpn or shadow legends unless they are paying a pretty penny.
@@gpw203 it's just how you're taught and we all know if it works it just works.
Well, mostly, I'm talking things like literally any mobile game, food shipment services, supplements, workout shakes, ETC. An occasional block on tools or parts that pertains to the content of the channel isn't gonna bother me one bit. I was pointing out how genuine Joe must be about his craft to not have that stuff in his videos like some channels do in every single one of theirs.
Dude ur grand dad is smiling ear 2 ear..Great job..Def keep it for memories cuz they will nvr go away..every time u look at it now it'll b a new chapter n ur book of life..b safe my friend..peace...
Grandpa's looking down and smiling away. That thing is a big bike. Great channel.
You can feel the extra love being poured out when it was your grandpa's personal bike. It was nice to hear her run once again. Enjoy your labor.....
I remember my uncle riding his Honda CB 750 in the Med 70's until he dumped it. My Aunt said, the bike goes or I go. bye bye Motorcycle! Joe, keep this Gem in your family. Happy Sunday you guys. Take Care
The Goldwing standard. Rare bike and the most collectable of the Wings. I bought one last year. Had not run for over 30 years. I made sure it had good title and the engine was not seized, and so I bought it for 300 dollars and used a Home Depot truck to get it home. Another 76 dollars. I got it running well. Fast bike and fun to ride. Now getting ready to convert it to electronic ignition. Mine is a 1979 Goldwing standard. 1979 was the last year the Goldwing was made in Japan.
I had a duplicate of that bike, moved on to other ones. But still admire it.
Hello from Brazil, I imagine your emotion, my father had one just like this, and I recently I bought a 1975, but in blue, with only 7,000 miles, when I rode it for the first time, I cried remember my Dad ! Watching your videos with pleasure! Soon I will make a video with mine on my channel! Congratulations!
Joe I'm 29 years old and honestly you've helped me over the years with bike engines the Xr 250R when stripping the engine there is a tiny spring that is in the head if you lose that it's game over I used a ball point pen spring and it worked amazingly 🤣 I didn't know for days what was wrong freshly rebuild still didn't start re stripped watched one of your XR videos and found the problem within a hour I've been watching for years keep up the good work
the early GL1000's like this one had an issue where if you left them on the side stand for too long oil would seep past the rings and collect in the left hand cylinders, which is most likely why they were fouled up. It could even hydrolock the engine in some cases, so best to keep it on the centre stand. beautiful bike, it's great to hear it run after so many years. I'm sure your grandpa would be proud!
Hydro locked like crazy, pain to remove to.
@@TroyRosenbaugha pain to run after hydro-locked? Nah, just pull the plugs and spurt the blockage out unless ya'll get a hit on the other cylinders and bend a rod.
Centre stand for this bike it must weigh half a ton you would have to be strong to lift it
So nice and refreshing to see a second life for these old boys !! In the mid 80s I worked at a small motorcycle shop " cycle exchange " and my 1st project was a gold wing engine overhaul, this brings back so many memories, thank you Joe , absolutely fantastic 👏
А что тут фантастического, цилиндры ржавые кольца тоже, наделает при работе задиры и будет дымить и жрать масло, это называется мамкин ремонтер!
Worked a Honda shop back in 76, spent the summer taking these things out of the crate, prepping them, and test driving them up and down Woodward Avenue, big fat rockets!
Love the channel, nice cycle, great project, your grandfather is smiling down on you
It's a testament on how solid these engine really are. Pretty much if the motor isn't locked up, they'll run.
Carbs are a bit finicky, but everything else is usually solid. Goldwings have earned their reputation for reliability.
I had a gl1000 Goldwing for about 2 days when I was 18 years old. That would have been in 1989, and I weighed 135 lb at 5 ft 7 and 1/2 in with boots on. I dropped that bike at a stop sign, and I thought it was going to die before someone helped me get it back up. I drove it back to the dude. I wasn't buying it from, and since we hadn't legally made the transition yet and I didn't hurt the bike, he took it back. I would have got killed on that bike not to mention those older Hondas had all kind of carburetor issues. I didn't care back then because I had a shop to work on anything, and I actually liked working on stuff back then. Nowadays I'd rather just ride. I'm a 100lb saver and I was in 1989 and I ride a 2009 Honda Shadow Aero 750. That's a pretty good bike.
Nice, your grandpa is smiling ear to ear. Probably a good idea to check the inside of them pipes to. Can't wait to see the next video of this bike. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼👍🏼
It's an honor to bring back these old machines. Especially when it belonged to loved once at some point. My wife's uncle just passed. Before he did, he passed on to me his 2006 kawasaki prairie 360. It sat In The shed for 10 years. Prior to that was barely used. I went thru the whole quad. Its mint now.
My wife rides that quad now. It brings back memories for her. She tells me about times before we met.
all for grandpa, i bought a snowmobile where my grandfathers cemetary is. its a little salute to him, i rebuilt and replaced everything i could on it. i wax that thing . if it has a spot of grease its wiped off. but i ride it alot. its so fun just to put around on !! all for gramps hed get a kick out of it. nice work joe!!
It had to be an emotional moment when your Pop bike sprung into life. I'm pretty sure that put a big smile on his face, rest his soul. Well done, Joe!
I was given a 77 Goldwing from a coworker a coupke decades ago.
That was my first go round with Goldwings. All I had to do was change the plugs, clean and sync the carbs, file the points, and she fired up.
The timing belt snapped thankfully while kicking it over in the driveway and not out on the road.
Great video!
This is great man! I bet a paycheck you Grandpa is smiling down on you for getting his old bike running! Good grandparents are the best! I owe both of my Pops for pushing me to learn the trade of fixing things, and so glad they did!!!
Very impressive . Good to see the younger generation taking interest in the older Japanese iron . I had a 75 that I restored to original . There used be a group called the classic wing club . Don't know if they are still around . There is plenty info on the web about aftermarket parts such as belts and hoses . The best update is Gl1500 coils and dyna electronic ignition . Save your starter by using carb cleaner .Keep up the good work .
You vids get me fired up to get into my shop and fix the many ongoing project toys, Thanks !
Grandpa is looking down with a giant smile on his face! Great job, Joe!
Yep
Great job getting that old girl running. I pulled up next to one just like it the other day riding my 2018 wing. It was beautiful.
Your grandpa was always proud and would be even more proud today. Great job! I'm looking forward to seeing more on this project. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Wow! A second life for Goldwing. Hope to see more videos bringing bike to life. Good luck and take care.👍
Congrats man, I was happy for ya when it fired up...
I came just bye to improve my English (american) - Then i Spended 2 rewarding hours - Your mecanic skill, your calm, your accent easy to understand, it was a pleasure. Un grand merci !!!!
The Goldwings were heavy, incredibly well balanced and a pleasure to ride. Really good to see a pretty nice example brought back to life. Thank you.
I think your Grandfather would have be so proud of you getting his bike going again after all this time. If he's looking down from heaven watching you he'd have a BIG smile on his face right now. 😁
Congratulations on getting your grandpa’s bike going. Really enjoy your channel. You do a great job problem solving and have a good work ethic! Grandpa taught well.
I restored a ’78 15/yr in a barn find GW back in late ‘90’s. Most time spent in cleaning carbs, calipers and gas tank. New timing belt and drove it 10k miles. Really liked that thing !
Remember doing a full strip and rebuild of one of these engines when I was at college in early 80's . Was a nice project, the crank was very short. I also noticed the pistons had valve cutaways for four valves, just like yours. By the way, blunt scraper is much kinder to the gasket surface, than a sharp blade. All the best.
Just so fascinating to watch you as you find these cool bikes here and there and then systematically go through them, with the utmost patience and humor! I enjoy watching you interact with the sellers, and then the troubleshooting process and then seeing these bikes run AND your enthusiasm riding them once again! I've learned so much from you and watching your videos on so many levels! I'm 62 and been riding happily since 11 years old! Keep up the great work.
Can't wait to hear what you think of it after riding it. I didn't expect to like mine as much as I did after my first ride. Was used to sport bikes and didn't think I'd enjoy riding a big heavy bike like a Gold Wing. Boy was I wrong. I've taken many long trips on it and only retired it, temporarily, after my son was born.
I’m so proud of you putting this old boy back together, I’m sure your grandpa is looking down on you with such pride you’ve come such a long way in such a short time, please keep up with the variations of all the machines it keeps your show so interesting !!!! Thank you very much an old time viewer😊
This channel always has so much knowledge and I love it. I also greatly appreciate how you don't use music in your videos and you take the time to explain everything that you are doing. Makes it a whole lot easier to focus and understand what's going on.
I very much agree. I can't believe I watched nearly 2 hours of this (both videos) but I found it truly fascinating. You appeared to not know the Goldwing, but know engines which made the process of elimination much more interesting. More please on this bike as I'm considering one!
I'm sure your grampa is smiling in heaven watching you revive his bike
You do a great job of moderating your impatience with following proper procedures. Great job!
The old Honda boxer lives again! Well done!
I just picked up my first one last week. 82 Goldwing Aspencade 1100 with 70k miles. Out of curiosity I did a cold compression test (about 34 degrees out in the barn) and the cylinders all had over 165psi, I couldn't believe it. These motors are certainly impressive.
Sorry for you loss.
Congrats on the work.
Your Grandpa must be proud.
On metal gas tanks that have rust. Put a couple strong magnets next to the petcock under the gas tank to keep rust from getting in the carburetor.
U need to keep that motorcycle running for as long as possible since it was your grandfather's own who knows maybe one day your son could own it after u .love your work keep it up !!.
One of the most beatifull bikes ever built
Man im literally just absolutely happy for you in knowing just how much this has to mean to ya and especially when considering your grandpa is the one who got you interested in working on motors. I feel like not many grandkids have the pleasure to own a piece of memorabilia from there grandparents cause I know I didn't get that sort of luxury with any of mine so very blessed my man and I can guarantee he's definitely 💯 proud of ya on this one and smiling ear to ear fs, congratulations and great content as always. Very well done sir!!
Your enthusiasm for these old machines is very infectious 😎
Such a great video!…what a satisfying day for you and on something you have been seeing this stored at your grandpas all your life . Congratulations, nice work!
Workshop tip.
You'll get a better seal on your gaskets if you give them an even light spray with spray-paint.
Got it from a top mechanic, Dale from Wheels Through Time, so I'm going to believe that one.
A brass wire wheel on a drill works pretty well for cleaning up the surfaces on the heads pretty quickly. Also, you could clamp a small pair of vice grips to that razor blade and get a lot more done faster with that and be safer. I love watching your videos man, thank you, keep up the good work!
Good job
My condolences on your loss. Great job on getting Grandpa’s motorcycle running again.
Sorry for your loss brother it suck’s loosing someone fix something that you love and keep the memories going you still have an couple of my dream bikes
It was his grandpa
Absolute brilliant joe couple of tweeks here and there and you will have it running perfectly very proud man looking down on you for sure I’m sure your family is super proud of you too all the best mate 👍👌🔧🔧🔧🙏❤️
Great work Joe. You make it look easy. Grandpa would be proud.
I've been waiting for this since the first video ended. You should definitely be proud of your accomplishments in life.
I learn so much from this man. As a teenager who works on dirtbikes and more, I love to watch @2vintage as an inspiration
Always a good day when you upload! Btw update on my warrior. I ordered a carb rebuild kit and intake boot. Also ordered a fuel shutoff because it is leaking.
Great to see you work on this bike . I too had one of these and 2 things I can tell you. Change the timing belt every few years and these old girls love to be choked to get her started. Good luck to you !!
I also had a 1975 Gold Wing (red). Toured many miles with it, trouble free. Miss those days.
Permatex 80645 Low VOC Gasket Remover works great but you have to let it soak sometimes for a few hours and re-apply and so easy to clean.
49:29 hehe we call those "Back" fires! Nice work grampa 'd be proud! He is proud he's looking down from Heaven and he's beaming! Love your show.
Had a shot on one of those back in the day. Smooth and powerful and surprisingly good handling for it's size, but I was riding an XS1100S at the time so even an H2 handled well by my standards 😂
Your grandad is so chuffed that you're doing this m8. You're gonna have a ball riding it.
I haven’t been this tense over an engine start since watching Flight of the Phoenix as a kid, well done, Grandpa is smiling.
i forgot about that movie!
... congratulations I knew you could do it Joe!!! Let's take her on a dedication ride, your grandpa would be proud...
Thank you man for all the videos! Sorry for your loss and I'm from Sweden enjoyin all your fixing of vintage things! :)
Condolences bud, been there, crushing, you have a great piece of him to fix and ride with him in your heart. Mine left me 3 farm bikes all 3 ATCs. They're still around and still running good. Gave one to my sis, one to my cuz. Kept the really nice cherry one for me, 85 big red. My dad uses it on his farm to pull little yard trailer with picking leaves, sticks, etc.
thank you for taking us on your journey. RIP to your grandfather.
I owned an '81 Goldwing at one point many years ago. They run great until they don't. The carbs are no fun to remove and once they are rebuilt they need to be synced to get the bike to run as it should. Your Wing is a long way from running properly but just getting it running from the state it was in has to be very gratifying I'm sure. I'll be watching your further adventures with this project!!!
Most Gold Wings start before you can let your thumb off the starter button so he has more work to do for sure. And yes even the old ones start that fast if they are properly tuned and everything is right.
I got the same with my 1975 Goldwing between 77 and 78 .The cv carbs are garbage and costs a lot of time .
Hey it's great you got it started!! My uncle just died a few days ago. He loved bikes and always had one!! I had a friend that had an 87 gold wing. It was fast!! Great job. Looked like the right side wasn't running though. Love you raw videos. And f the haters!! Because you do it raw!!
Your Grandpa would be proud of you well done i hope you can get the other one up and running as well.
Great work. I would have also given the heads a thinners wash though, as the gummed carbon inside the manifolds will start to work its way out to the valves eventually.
Fantastic work. Really enjoy your videos. Are you going to do a part 3?
In the late 1970's I began Despatch Riding in London, and one of our riders had one of these Gold Wings.
I asked him how he managed to lug that big thing around town all day, and he just smiled, said jump on, and took me on one of the fastest, most exciting blasts through the West End of London traffic I'd ever had!
Doing that, two up, on a Gold Wing showed me that I had much to learn about motorcycling...
Its nice to see a naked Gold Wing before all that plastic fairing and luggage garbage buried the bile and made it even larger.
Just got another raptor, guy said won't start or turn over. Checked starter, all good, just didn't put starter gear back in after he changed it... cool bean's. Fired right up once i found it in parts box and installed.
You' have done your grandpa proud there getting it up and runing filler check oil change given carbs good clean 👌
I think I can speak for most of us! If you still have this small piece of your grandpa, I'd love to see this bike move under its own power. Hope to see it in the near future if you still have it!!
Stubborn old gasket material sucks! I throw stuff in the ultrasonic cleaner for 15 minutes, then scrape the gaskets. With those heads, you could even throw them back in the ultrasonic afterwards for 30 minutes to clean the heads up a little to work on. Love your videos Joe! Keep up the awesome content
a two inch pneumatic wire wheel would make the head deck perfect. that little dremmel thing is doin the job !
a lot of memories in that buddy. Look forward to seeing the carbs sorted and running. Good luck with it buddy.
I appreciate that you do so much with basic tools.
Some people think these are the true American bikes not Harley either way they are in a class of there own that cannot be beat no matter what year the bike was made they all where very smooth fast riding cockpit of fun. Also congratulations on restoring ur grandpa's bike.
Got a 1200 that has been beat to hell. Sat out in rain, desert. Hell and back with 100k miles. Still runs strong up steep mountains.
Here in the UK I had a poster on my wall of a 1975 Goldwing exactly like that. What a find.
You totally need to get one of those sonic baths for those heads & things that you do. they even work well for carb work👌👍
He has one for carbs
@@waffalobill oh he does ? I guess that I don't recall ?! lol
@@Jason71100 No way he get those heads in it but he's got one for carbs.
Great bike Your Grandad would be proud excellent job, You got keep these bikes
Not would, he is! Watching from above drinking coffee with God.
Watche'd the first,...and this second installment of your grandads goldwing. You say at the end that you'd finish it up in the next video. Where is it ???
Keep doing what your doing and bringing back these old dinosaurs, love watching your vids in the shop in the mornings before we start our day. Keep up the great work!
I love these old bikes I fell in love with bikes when I saw the Yamaha 49cc 4 geared moped in the UK 🇬🇧 I see Vinnie Bear showed his face when he came in to top up his sun tan just like me, and I remember the honda 50cc thrashing around the city 😄
Nice GL! I find that Citri-strip spray works well to soften the gasket material if you let it sit for a bit.
So sorry to hear of your grandfather’s passing. Thoughts for you and your family.
I like the "Grand" from 70's vintage Pontiac Grand Prix emblem on the side of the tank. Just found your channel and impressed with your patience and perserverance.
Your grandpa would be proud 👏 No better way to honor his memory in my opinion
Well done joe. Your grandad woould be proud of you mate. Very well done. The bike will be a collectimg item now days.
Back when this bike was new, it was the smoothest running bike on the market. Honda knew what they were doing.
I remember going to the Honda store in Calgary in 1975 with my dad to look at one of these!
That’s a great bike you have there young man, saved by another great man… sorry for your loss also
These are a great touring bike, they have a ton of torque, my cousin and his friend owned one each when I was a kid.
Bet your grandad will be so proud of you, brilliant Joe take care.
I didn’t know about your grandpa, Joe! My condolences to the family! 🙏🏼
are we going to get a video of this thing riding any time soon?!?! would love to see one!
