    I'm actually a native of the the U.S, but I live here in Norway now. I'm also a artist/songwriter and I really love this video about Sigrid and her songwriter skills. I lived here for about 7 years and musically Norwegians are amazing! It's gotten to the point when I do my music releases, many musicians say to me that my music sounds like the land of Norway.Very happy and bouncy. Takk for dette!

    Those analysis are completely genial.
    I'm really into musical theory, even tho' I can't really go to a music school right now,
    and damn, this is what I've been looking for.

    • @hushedtones7168
      @hushedtones7168 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Knowledge you seek out of curiosity is 20x more retained than the knowledge you get imposed by school. You retain more of it as long as you practice what you learn.
      But with school you can go further faster and meet people who are alike. If you are already skilled more than other students it can also make your experience more worthwhile to attract more opportunities while you're there.
      It's also a cost-benefit analysis depending on what it costs to go to school in different regions of the world and what you get that you won't get anywhere else (internet, books, instructional DVDs, networking). It's hard to know exactly in detail but your heart know what's right for you among the options you're weighing. Just make sure you researched well worth the amount you want to spend because there are lots of great $20 books repackaged into $1000 courses. Not all people have the same preferred learning method and the easiest isn't necessarily the best. It will depend on your goals and ressources.

    • @strawwberryyy
      @strawwberryyy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nykken777 I just don't find many similarities in their music either. lana makes these really dark, downtempo songs whereas most of sigrid's songs are pretty uptempo & in a major key. sure, they both write about "sad" topics but they aren't the only 2 (female) artists to do that. lana uses a lot more of this old hollywood style imagery in her lyrics, sound and outward image whereas sigrid just sings about her own honest emotions related to different parts of her love life. she doesn't want to draw much attention to her appearance judging by her plain clothes and lack of makeup, lana focuses on her appearance more and I feel like it reflects the style of her music. their voices and vocal techniques are completely different, too. to me it seems like the only similarity they have is the fact that their hair looks kind of similar, and grouping two female artists together based on that just smells a little sexist and ignorant to me. feel free to counterargument & show me some similarities, I'm not the biggest lana fan. but like, I really don't get where the comparisons are coming from.

    • @Nykken777
      @Nykken777 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@strawwberryyy You might be right, I haven't followed their careers much either, other then through norwegian music channels, which love Sigrid, so I know about her music through that.
      My comment wad not ment to write off your comment, I just wanted to bring a different angle to a possible discussion, which often turns onesided.
      That being said, I don't think popmusic is something he is passionate about, and that might be the reason he comes off as ignorant.
      It might also be that he sees some similarities that I don't, he sure has a different way of looking at music.
      Kind regards from Norway

  • @YasinAlmak
    @YasinAlmak 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I prefer the old way of analysis when you used to breakdown the whole history of an artist/band. However, I can't deny the depth of the new, more focused style.

    • @hushedtones7168
      @hushedtones7168 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree the old format was more insightful most people can analyze single songs but analyzing a whole artist repertoire very few people will do it. Maybe he does it this way because it can be faster to release videos. It's sad that algorithms and economic incentives doesn't reward more quality videos taking time to research

    • @hushedtones7168
      @hushedtones7168 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      maybe now it could be called "the song series" instead of artist series

    • @YasinAlmak
      @YasinAlmak 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't agree more on the points of faster production cycle & algorithm blindness to quality.
      Plus, one song can not really reflect the artist's craftsmanship even if we're talking about Bohemian Rhapsody of Queen's.

    One of the things I find really interesting about Sigrid's image is that she's not as young as her image would have you believe. You'd expect her to be similar in age to Billie Eilish, but she's 5 years older at 22. Her "simplistic" clothing choices, low make up levels and hairstyle for me make her appear to be a teenager.

    Finally, an intelligent critique of an artist. i’ve watched a few of the so called “ Reaction “ videos and then this comes up in my feed . Of course there is zero comparison to this brilliant guy and some fool whose critique consists of spewing manic hyperbole laced with bug eyed facial expressions.
    The reason i’m commenting on what this guy isn’t is because i have no idea of what he is , cause i have zero knowledge of written music. 😂
    My favorite part was/is the beginning where he asks us to choose three words to describe Sigrid, so here it is -
    unique
    decade
    Sigrid
    I’ll explain . Unique is obvious . she is her own style
    Decade - fro me a “ unique artist with a unique sound comes along maybe every ten years , give or take.
    Sigrid - When an artist uses one name to describe themselves it’s usually a pretentious marketing technique and this case is no different ,except that her sound is so different and refreshingly new that she deserves the attention that usually comes with a single name.

    • @noahmcgaffey797
      @noahmcgaffey797 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When writing a melody you can break down everynote into three categories, from least 'colourful' to most
      Chord tones, scalar tones, and then chromatic tones
      Chord tones being the notes of the chord itself regradless of key (C E G as an example). this can include extentions but not always, if the chord is C E G A (C13), the A might not feel like part of the chord, it really depends on the chord voicing.
      Scalar tones are notes that are in the scale of the root key or key of the chord, you can decide which it is. For example if I'm in C major and play an F, this is the 4th scale tone and creates 'colour' on the chords C(11th), E(b9), G(7), and A(13).
      Chromatic tones are notes not in the chord or scale, sometimes of these are called "nope notes" but I prefer dope notes (watch Ben Levin's dope note series for more because this can get complicated without audio examples)
      The other thing he is talking abiut as "colour" is structure and phrasing which is something you can learn about by studying poetry. using common metre (abab rhyme with 4 stresses) is much less interesting than aaabbba where the amount of stresses follows the fibonachi sequence.

      Jaden Hall I'm listening on phone, so um not really sure, but I think you probably mean the Reese Bass. It's detuned saw waves with a low pass filter.
