Everywhere Delos has been. All the countries it has seen. This is the most memorable episode for me. It really shows how Mother Nature can and will show her might. Brian and Brady handled it with grace and poise.
After watching so many episodes over the years, i love coming back to these Indian ocean episodes. The epidemy of wind, ocean, crew and boat. I think the best of Delos. Absolutely love the Amel. SK in the UK.
[Liz] Brady's comment about preferring not to see what the waves were like at daylight RANG SO TRUE!! We had a similar three day experience in the Indian Ocean which tested our mettle as sailors and as a two-person team. Putting your life in the hands of someone else one minute, then being responsible for them the next forges an unbreakable bond. Fantastic episode, and I KNOW it was 10 times worse than the camera showed. Peace and fair winds!
I think the value of the Amel brand just increased. Brian and Frida's testimony of their confidence in Delos is the best endorsement a manufacturer could ever get. Chantiers Amel S.A. owes this crew a lot more than just buying them a beer.
Well done Trautman brothers. That constant howling wind can put the creeps in you, but checking the rigging before a long trip and having emergency procedures written down can give you the confidence to see it through. loving the content all the way from the beginning.
It's easy to forget the inherent dangers in sailing long distances after watching and enjoying all the great videos of the fun stops at isolated atolls...etc. Great job by the Captain and crew of the SV Delos.
Fantastic episode guys! We watched it on our boat in the Bahamas, in a 30 knot blow, with a swell coming in the anchorage. Felt like we were immersed in your adventure. Thanks for all your hard work getting these video to us. Cheers from M/V C-Shel!
What a ride. This vid particularly, reminds me of my youth days fishing off the West Coast of Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Island, BC, Canada) 30 days out, without touching land on 54' Wooden Freezer Trawler. In those 30 days we hit weather such as this more than once. 30' swells, Buddy boat ahead of us would completely disappear in the trough's, poles and all until we surf up the side of the wave and catch a glimpse of them until we dive down again. Wooohoo....lets ride. Looks like fun to me. Congrats on spectacular vids, informative and educational all rolled into one.
Phenomenal episode. The sound of wind and waves is an adrenaline surge just by watching the video with headphones. I can imagine the actual experience was exponentially greater. Thanks again for taking us along.
it's been a long time since this was filmed and posted, but @22:00 I've got to give Brian and Brady a sincere BZ for sending everyone below and taking ultimate responsibility. True Captains. Cheers all!
You are so impressive. In an extreme wind condition, you have the most experienced helmsmen on watch, and you have the biggest hole in the boat, the main hatch, closed, as it should be. Your attention to the safety of the boat and the crew is admirable. Keep up the good work (Yeah, I know this is an older video so in fact you kept up the good work, past tense.) You had adventures and you survived. That is proper captaincy and leadership. Best Regards.
We wonder how many times you have all looked back at this video and smiled? - Those long nights are such a drag & scary - You deserve two thumbs up for this for sure - Fair winds from the Caribbean
I can't imagine a smaller boat out in that weather, and it's crazy to think much smaller boats have indeed been in weather like that and made it fine! The waves crashing over the beam would be the scariest part I feel like. Great episode.
What a wild ride. This video should be part of every cat vs. mono discussion, along with the Cape Town > La reunion vids. Another fun 26 minutes, thank for giving it to us.
Just the most awesome sailing video of all time ! Fantastic narration Brian you really brought out the vitality and realism of that epic stormy night wrestling the elements in the dark. Extreme man ! The first time i watched this I nearly had an anxiety attack. I love that intense sailing you's went through . You and your whole are my heroes. The best job of video I've ever seen !
Guys that was absolutely fantastic, I've sailed in some rough seas but that has to be something else, incredible footage, and properly made me feel the power of the ocean all over again ..... fabulous !
Sure hope you guys keep sharing, I enjoy every episode! Would love to see more of your everyday life and interactions with strangers. Hope you have the wind to your backs and smooth waves!
I'm glad to see that you guys and the boat got through that OK. I can well understand about it being frightening with all that noise, wind and massive seas.
the use no lifejackets or any other equipment that should be used during bad weather. if someone gets overboard chances they will turn around for him and find him are very low
So I started learning about sailing since watching this channel and only recently read about rogue waves and the conditions in that part of the world. Gave me a whole new appreciation for Delos as a vessel and crew on this leg of the trip. So fucking gnarly
I just found your channel and videos and wanted to say thanks for taking the time to document your adventures. The team was amazing. This really makes me want to get out in a larger boat and see how she handles.
Such an intense voyage and I am happy you made it through. One of your best sailing videos showing all of us what is required to make it from one point to another. Glad you all are safe. I was even rocking on my couch with the waves. Stay safe and well.
I got back a few weeks ago from delivering a Yacht from the UK down to the Canaries. Was my first experience of sailing (and largely inspired by watching SV Delos) and the first night out we hit Force 8 winds gusting upto 42-43 knots. Talk about a rough intro to sailing! But, by the end of the 2 weeks I was helming through gnarly squalls, and kinda enjoying it when it was a bit blowy! Keep up the good work and keep inspiring people!
Gotta say Brits, you've got me curious. How did this challenge come about? You get hired (?) to deliver a yacht worth, what, two, three, four, five hundred thousand pounds, through the Channel and Atlantic, as your first sailing experience? I'm thinking you had an experienced skipper on board and you were a training crew member? Glad you're OK. It's reassuring to read that in short time you were steering like a boss through the big stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Well, the experienced skipper was a family member, who happens to be a sailing instructor, and was hired to do the delivery. She was allowed to pick her own crew and asked me if I wanted to come as an extra hand. The boat was a 40ft cruiser/racer, so yeah definitely worth a bob or two, but nowhere near as comfortable as Delos! I made sure I had a grasp of the basics (points of sail, names of deck equipment and sails etc.) before going and was able to learn the practical stuff on the job. For the first week I always had someone experienced on watch with me even during the day, and everyone did double watches at night (3 hours on, 4.5 off). Normally I was on with the skipper or mate who managed to impart enough knowledge into my thick skull that after the first week (after Biscay) I was put on solo day watches and allowed to helm at night too. On the final run between Portugal and Canaries we hit a couple of days bad weather with one night in particular sticking out where we were close hauled going into 30-35 knot winds and regular squalls which I helmed through for 3 hours straight (my personal highlight/achievement) hitting speeds of 9-10 knots through the water. In hindsight I'm glad I threw myself in the deep end as in 2 weeks I learned more than I would have on multiple conventional training courses, and had the experience to boot. Cheers.
Well done Delos & crew! Never much fun, we experienced a similar strong gale when sailing south to the Canary islands... always good to look back on to tell the stories! Keep up the awesome work, love your videos from South Australia!!
Glad you are all safe and well - the noise from the wind was intense, the only time I have ever heard anything like that was up in the mountains in Austria when I was camping in the middle of a lightening storm Stay safe guys and safe sailing
yup, pretty knarly. I was in the navy on a destroyer outrunning a hurricane in the Atlantic. In 20+ foot seas we were taking green water over the bow and 2 file cabinets broke loose and chased me around the shop a bit. We let them have their way till the weather smoothed out a bit. Fun times... :-). Tootles... Wade BeSafe
WOW!!! great episode. I always love to see men and machine working together. I bet it was scary but Delos is a great tough ship. and has a great sheltered helm. I bet you guys feel real love for this yacht. I have the same with my cuddy speedboat when driving it fast in rough weather. it makes you feel a sort of proud because it does so well. Frieda looked hot in her "behind the scenes" shot in the bathroom. i will miss her, Max and the other girls when they get off the boat. Keep up the good work!!!
Hi to you all on SV Delos, It is not as if you had any choice in it, but it must have been pretty scary when you could see the wind and boat increasing their speed, glad everyone is all right! The only advantage is you arrived at your destination sooner eh! Thank you for such wonderful videography.
You guys are all so brave to sail for so long. Excellent videos. I feel like I'm there with you!! I'm over 50 so you wouldn't catch me topless. Everyone would jump off the boat loloool I think it's time to dock Delos and give her some love and repairs. Delos is an amazing vessel to be able to handle a storm like that! Omg I would be very scared. You would not want me on Delos with you during a storm like that. I can hear the wind and waves.
Gutsy folks sailing right along at night in 40 knots. In my experience, everything seemed MUCH worse in the dark! So the fact that she can drive calmly and note that "its a bit scary" makes me admire her courage.
amazing how you guys read the currents and predict the course! Damn this is real skill as a sailor. Amazing, I love these videos. You now have a FAN! My favorite character is the Captain. He is so freaking Chill and his bro. Ladies are cool too but in that order.
Ohhh, That's scary. We used to sail on a lake in New Mexico. We would get nasty, nasty wind storms. That was bad enough & we didn't have to worry about waves. Glad you all made it through okay. You reminded me of exactly why I will stick to weekend lake sailing. :)
What a ship! Be glad you were with her.she took care of you.its hard to believe you were going through this storm in a small ,compared to the ocean, sv and she took it like a champ.kudos to Delos!
Great boat, greater crew (especially when under some real stress in 40+ gusting) and one of the best videos ever to give a sense of what its like in a big breeze on a dark night - even though video never truly does the sea state justice - and the Super Maramu has such a sweet ride in a seaway, to say nothing of a solid bimini to keep you dry (well dry'ish) : -))).
The downwind sails look beautiful. Being in that bathroom is crazy movement. "I can't see shit." in there at night. LOL. And outside the sea is frighteningly furious. Thanks for taking us on this wild adventure.
That was amazing. Great episode with balls to the wall, sailing. Have only been following for two weeks, but binge-watched and read everything. Well sailed under extreme conditions and very calm skippering Bryan (what we saw, anyway ;) )
I've watched a lot of your vids. This one is intense. Anyone who wants to circumnavigate NEEDS to see this vid. Y'all did a great job. I watch a lot of forums and videos where people seem to think they can just outrun the weather. IMO, mother nature will say otherwise and you have to be ready for her.
You & your awesome crew are amazing Brian I am definitely buying you all a beer!!! You are all truly great sailors with an incredibly sure & strong Captain & 1st Mate... Hope you all have calmer / smooth sailing in your future!, Jeff
That was really intense to watch. You guys handle adverse conditions so we'll, in the dark you really could appreciate the size of the waves. Loved watching Karin being able to cook in those conditions. Can't wait for next weeks video.
WOW, I've been thru some wicked storms...on Huge ships...it makes you realize what reality is...it will bond and solidify relationships. I can't imagine riding that storm on a small boat. You guys rock!!
Until that wave washed into the cockpit I was thinking Delos was riding the storm out remarkably well. Still, she seems like a good seaboat, although I'm sure your years sailing her helped a lot. This is one of my favourite episodes so far.
What an amazing episode! It was like I could feel the power of the storm. What a boat though!!! If I ever sail the world it has got to be on this boat.
Yup , I keep coming back to this episode ! I love it so much. Cant wait until I get to experience that kind of sailing in my tiny C&C 31 (once I get it in the water) Until then I'm dreaming your life , so keep living the dream Delos
That was intense just to watch! I can only imagine the thoughts running through the crew minds. Thankfully, the cool headed Captain and crew are experienced sailors. This should be eye opening to all of us wannabees! Have your wits about you before you sail into sunset! Well done guys!
İt had the best crew chemistry.
That is one frickin' awesome boat. Wind blowing gale force, waves crashing and person at the helm stays relatively dry. Brilliant!!!!!
This is so much better than watching reality TV. No commercials, no scripts, actual reality and drama that's not fabricated. Thank you!
Sailing followtheboat i had a similar experience in the north athletic. I was cocky and young and thought i could handle it alone in a 26 footer
SV Methos that just seems like a bad idea
Arrrgggg i reckon this be true
@@yegmtb8377 aye!
Batten the hatches and close the companion way off!
Hold Fast!!!
Feels so weird to relive this!!! Haha chills... Indeed GNARLY.
Feels so weird to see you as a viewer and not a participant.
hey girl! hope all is going well
ditto, hope all is well.
i always wanted to ask you Josje, How is your dutch still? :p because ive heard you and babs sing the dutch birthday song :P
so happy to get news from you, hope you're OK, you'll be with us and in our hearts for a long time.... wishing you all the best that you dreamed for
been a sailor all my days.....you handled that storm with a calm proffessionalism....
well done to all of you... keep it up
The Captain will break before the boat and Delos has a good one.
Fair winds.
I keep coming back to this episode now and then . It's one of your best.
I think the value of the Amel brand just increased. Brian and Frida's testimony of their confidence in Delos is the best endorsement a manufacturer could ever get. Chantiers Amel S.A. owes this crew a lot more than just buying them a beer.

You make it unbearable to wait for the next episode! By far the best series I've seen on TH-cam yet.
You hit it right ;) Greetings from Stockholm
by far my favorite episode
Fantastic episode guys! We watched it on our boat in the Bahamas, in a 30 knot blow, with a swell coming in the anchorage. Felt like we were immersed in your adventure. Thanks for all your hard work getting these video to us. Cheers from M/V C-Shel!
Much respect Delosians. Fine boat ... finer crew ... Well done Capt. Brian
What a ride. I’ve seen this episode several times and it’s probably my favorite. Cool stuff 🤘🏼
it's been a long time since this was filmed and posted, but @22:00 I've got to give Brian and Brady a sincere BZ for sending everyone below and taking ultimate responsibility. True Captains. Cheers all!
Yes, that was some gnarly gale!

ONCE AGAIN A GREAT CREW PULLS TOGETHER AS ONE , THANK YOU ALL FOR DOING AN EXCELLENT JOB WORKING TOGETHER FOR ALL ON BOARD .
I can't imagine a smaller boat out in that weather, and it's crazy to think much smaller boats have indeed been in weather like that and made it fine! The waves crashing over the beam would be the scariest part I feel like. Great episode.
Sailing Vessel Somnium Girls need a shower really bad
Im so glad yall were able to put some video of bad conditions, it makes you appreciate the power of the ocean.......well done crew
Glad to see Brian wearing a life jacket. Serious stuff.
Great description of the storm and what it was like sailing it! AWESOME VID!!!
What a wild ride.
This video should be part of every cat vs. mono discussion, along with the Cape Town > La reunion vids.

I have to watch this again. This was the best SV Delos video.
Quite honestly, I think this is my favorite of all your videos.
One of the most thrilling videos.
You know that anything can happen and it just about is !
Just. Wow. Love your channel. Really helped me get through a really, really jacked up year. Love me some Delos!!!
Scary! I was getting chills watching it..... glad you all made it through safely!!

I just found your channel and videos and wanted to say thanks for taking the time to document your adventures. The team was amazing. This really makes me want to get out in a larger boat and see how she handles.
That was the most riveting video you've put out. You perfectly captured the tension of foul weather sailing. Bravo!
So pleased your all safe.. natures fierce and exciting.
Such an intense voyage and I am happy you made it through. One of your best sailing videos showing all of us what is required to make it from one point to another. Glad you all are safe. I was even rocking on my couch with the waves. Stay safe and well.

Great video. So real it's surreal. So intense. I'm going to have to watch it again.
Respect to the crew, there was no bravado in that gale. The sea after all can be scary as hell.
Greetings from South Africa , Cape Town , keep the sailing coming SV Delos
Well done Delos & crew! Never much fun, we experienced a similar strong gale when sailing south to the Canary islands... always good to look back on to tell the stories! Keep up the awesome work, love your videos from South Australia!!
Looks like you guys passed Neptune's stormy test with flying colours. Good going! Safe sailing and happy adventures to you all!
the best and most spine tingling video so far
ive come back to this after watching #94. glad it was you and not me ... but its cool to watch :)
Nothing like a strong breeze to make a sailor. That and a great boat.
Glad you are all safe and well - the noise from the wind was intense, the only time I have ever heard anything like that was up in the mountains in Austria when I was camping in the middle of a lightening storm
Stay safe guys and safe sailing
Another awesome episode Delos crew.
Looked like a hell of a ride.
I really enjoyed Fridas behind the scenes.
Delos is a bad ass boat with a bad ass crew! awesome awesome awesome!
yup, pretty knarly. I was in the navy on a destroyer outrunning a hurricane in the Atlantic. Got chills watching this one. Glad you guys are safe.
Incredible footage, very raw and emotional. Thanks for sharing....
Chasing Life i got sumn nice for yuu to taste
WOW!!! great episode. Exciting episode guys. Absolutely love the show!!! Be safe in your travels.
Bryan from Ontario, Canada
you guys are just getting better and better
Hi to you all on SV Delos,
It is not as if you had any choice in it, but it must have been pretty scary when you could see the wind and boat increasing their speed, glad everyone is all right! The only advantage is you arrived at your destination sooner eh!
Thank you for such wonderful videography.
Love watching this episode over every now and then. It is a Delos classic. One of your greatest productions. Thanks
You guys are all so brave to sail for so long. Excellent videos. I feel like I'm there with you!! I'm over 50 so you wouldn't catch me topless. Wow -brilliant filming of your venture - you all have a lot of bottle doing that - than you for sharing - loved it -
No one has commented for a while.i watched this one again one of my favorites.and on to Madagascar love it.peace be with you brothers and sisters
Gutsy folks sailing right along at night in 40 knots. In my experience, everything seemed MUCH worse in the dark! So the fact that she can drive calmly and note that "its a bit scary" makes me admire her courage.
She looks almost worried.
Wow DelosCrew! So impressed with how you all handled this crazy weather! You all stayed so calm! I was so nervous for y'all - those are HUGE waves!
amazing how you guys read the currents and predict the course! Damn this is real skill as a sailor. Amazing, I love these videos. You now have a FAN! My favorite character is the Captain. He is so freaking Chill and his bro. Ladies are cool too but in that order.
I have sailed into a storm because I wanted to get somewhere. It was so cool. Love sailing the sea nothing like it. It gets in your soul.
very intense journey. brought to life perfectly through the storytelling, and night vision video.
Well done B & B. When the wind is aft of the beam, you need to keep moving. Keep up the courage.
Ohhh, That's scary. We used to sail on a lake in New Mexico. We would get nasty, nasty wind storms. That was bad enough & we didn't have to worry about waves. Glad you all made it through okay. You reminded me of exactly why I will stick to weekend lake sailing. :)
Awesome sailing video! What a great life you all are alive in.
The shear power of the Ocean combined with Intense Weather Conditions is so powerful, looks like DELOS did Great.
What a ship! Be glad you were with her.she took care of you.its hard to believe you were going through this storm in a small ,compared to the ocean, sv and she took it like a champ.kudos to Delos!
i love the narration. That was a riveting adventure -had me on the edge of my seat!
Wow. Anyhow great sailing, good teamwork, and it's great to see full weather conditions with the boat and crew. Thanks!

Ive watched nearly 100 episodes. This is my favourite. Real sailing. Im trying to sleep but getting sweaty
That was intense just to watch! I can only imagine the thoughts running through the crew minds. Thankfully, the cool headed Captain and crew are experienced sailors. This should be eye opening to all of us wannabees! Have your wits about you before you sail into sunset! Well done guys!
This video took me right along with, what an exciting ride. Well done-
Gnarly indeed! Glad you guy made it though. What an awesome adventure!
simply awesome guys! Glad you guys made it...
Well done Delos crew. Your boathanding skills and prudent seamanship are very commendable. Pretty good for a couple of guys from Flagstaff 😎
What an awesome video...one of your best...filled with excitement and the realism of ocean sailing. Great job!
