That's the same sound I had. it was a valve seat coming off. took head off, replace seat and valve and put it back together, and it runs great now, but the PO overheated it when the radiator failed.
Def a rocker valve loose. If you pulled off the manifold I'm sure you would fine, one...if not more of the rocker arms was loose. The tapping is the opening and closing of the valve. If not loose. then one of the valves is probably stuck open so the valve is pushed all the way in and you hear the rocker arm tapping that closed valve. If you're not familiar with that just look at this video and you'll see the rocker arms sometimes they get loose, they push the valves closed. If one of the valves underneath the rocker arms is stuck then as the arms move they just tap, tap, tap, against the stuck closed valve. th-cam.com/video/uNWhIjA9c6A/w-d-xo.html
I am curious as well, having the same issue, replaced all lifters, put a scope down all of the cylinders as well as compression tested and they all checked out
Sold it, but can contact the owner. The engine has been removed and they are tearing it. Do know after it was pulled, it was a toss up between repair or rebuilt shortblock. Details in the near future.
Got a good look at the engine after it was pulled by new owner: rear cylinder/passenger side, rod bearing sloppy. Driver side cam/ chain tension extremely loose. The combination of the two issues were the causes of the terrible engine noises. Will post video of the pulled engine in near future.
And what’s your take on this whole situation?
Engine:”Knock knock knock knock”

its a rod bearing mine to it sounds like its coming from the intake or center
Yes it was
Replace the valve and seat. Also I recommend replacing all hydraulic lifters and roller rockers. Before you score your cams.
Not that simple. ROD BEARING

Did you ever come to any conclusions on this knocking? I've tried many things with no luck. Let me know what you've discovered.
