My issue with their removal is that Microsoft not only created their own avatar system, but it still remains strong and available for everyone. Nintendo not wanting to hold onto the idea they created themselves is a waste of potential.
I don't think Miis are done for, Nintendo just wanted to make Wii Sports into an actual franchise instead of a Mii game, even if it meant making the custom characters really bad

Fun fact. Miis first made their handheld debut in Tomodachi Collection, a game made for the original DS that never left Japan which is the predecessor to Tomodachi Life on the 3DS. Because Tomodachi Collection never got released globally an app made to transfer Miis from that game into Tomodachi Life also never got released outside of Japan and the text boxes asking the owner of Tomodachi Life if they have any Miis from Tomodachi Collection they need to transfer was removed which also included the game having the ability to send you to the eShop to download the app required for the Mii transfer. @@GregCubed i’ve been playing it since it came out, it’s quite good - i’ve restarted the game a few times since, cause it’s easy to get into also, the miis appeared on the ds in tomodachi collection.
I absolutely love the Miis. the wii series, and tomodachi life made up most of my childhood. I have fond memories of me and my sister staying up late at night playing wii party by using the freeplay minigames to make a sequential story. We've used our custom miis to make bands of families and friends in wii music to make songs. We even made miis to use as icons in the nonexistent note board that's shoved in the bottom right corner of the wii menu and write out notes for random thoughts or stories related to the characters?! For the 3ds, I had spent over 600 hours on tomodachi life when i was younger. I even played streetpass when me and my sister would make miis to pass by each others consoles so they would meet. I even used the AR Card games camera mode to take pictures of custom miis in situations. Ive written a LOT here, but that really goes to show how much I've used the Miis as a kid. I still use them today, for games like mario kart and smash ultimate! Any opportunity I get to use a Mii, I will take it.
I’m so glad this was recommended to me, I’ve been thinking about the Nintendo Wii for the past year. The Miis and Mario Kart Wii have had a grip on me like nothing else. I’m really happy I found your channel, humour is in point and still very informative. Instant sub
Dude! You’re gonna go far! The content is high quality, humor on point, audio is GREAT, perfect microphone with no clipping and no popping issues with how you say words, that editing. It’s beautiful. Can’t wait to see what’s next. That being said, I wish Nintendo would just either use miis fully or not include them at all in these new games. I get miitopia as it was fantastic and needed to go on the switch, it just made sense. With switch sports it feels like they dropped the mii mask (to use a term from Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf) into the game just because someone higher up said “I want my mii in the game” and it was too late and too close to launch to put miis in the game, model them and animate them. 12:23 don’t forget about wii party u!
I think its worth bringing up how intricate the mii maker in specifically Miitopia Switch is. You can legitimately just draw whatever you want for the most part. People have made some insane things in it, and it would've been awesome to have that in Switch Sports. But no, we gotta stick with the sports goblins.
Miiverse was by far the best thing to come out of whole Mii era. I think I've seen hundreds of different Miiverse screenshots so far that had me rolling with laughter. I was also one of the few who experienced it first hand, as I actually did have a Wii U ... a completely surreal experience.
Watch That's on Miiverse its 50 episodes of raw Miiverse with stuff like a scripted about a guy holding a knife an the other guy sees him chop their last lemonade
"Miis on the Wii U were the most robust and expansive version yet" IIRC, they're identical to the 3DS Miis in terms of features and customization. The only plus side is that the Wii U allowed 3000 Miis, something I wish Tomodachi Life allowed too :P I speculate that Miitopia might also be a factor in why Miis have been vanishing. The game didn't sell amazing on 3DS (a mixture of being a late release and, to be a bit frank, a mediocre game), and from what I gather it didn't exactly top sales on the Switch when it was remade either. I think it's telling that a year after Nintendo gave them another chance on Switch we get those Sportsmates abominations. If that's the case then that's really unfortunate because a GOOD game featuring Miis, such as a Tomodachi Life sequel or an actual decent Miitopia sequel, might've had different results. As a huge Mii fan myself, it's pretty disappointing.
@@senritsujumpsuit6021 Part of why my partner and I started a TH-cam playthrough of the game was because I was looking to see if I'd enjoy it more that way - having initially played it on my own and being largely disappointed by it.

You have a great sense of humor, I snorted at 5:57 lol. You also connected the dots for as to why Nintendo removing the music and themes etc following the Switch's existence, and while I understand what they're going for, some part of me just feels a bit sad because that "Nintendo charm" is lost just to appeal to a modern market. Generations in the future just won't experience the same joy and nostalgia as we did for the 3DS/Wii era with the littlest things like Streetpass. That said, keep up the great work! I'm definitely on the lookout for your channel now.
In Australia 50% actually is a passing grade. The only two places I've been to know it not to be are China and Japan, where a minimum of 60% is a passing grade.
As far as I'm concerned especially what Nintendo has been up to recently I'm really starting to feel that some people may be right all along about miis being phased out. Nice video by the way.
Kinda disappointed you didn't mention tomadachi life and miitopia? Those were huge for the miis and it's bizzare that you mentioned very obscure mii demos yet ignored two of biggest mii games, especially miitopia that got kinda acknowledged in the video, that game and the updated switch version sparked a lot of interest in miis again
I just want my Mii OCs to have a home. Feels like really only 3 places on the Switch where they look like they belong. Ultimate, Miitopia, and a super obscure port of a Wii game called Go Vacation (actually pretty good, IMO, I do screenshots of my characters there on the regular). ... Yes, I have Mii OCs. Yes, I even have a Pixiv featuring 10 of them, would you like to see it?
I feel like the switch doesn't have the Nintendo magic that the Wii had. No cool menu designs, no music, no miis, it just kinda feels like it has no spirit. I'm never gonna forget when I got my wii in 2009. I was like 6 and me and my dad made a Mii of Abe Lincoln. Can't do that on Switch.
Video was a banger. Somehow you got into my algorithm and I’m sitting here wondering how you have less than 10k subs. Won’t be long until that milestone if your content stays quality like this!
There's a secret but very prominent use of miis on the switch: Breath of the Wild. All the NPC faces are stored in a modified mii format. With the right software you can even export NPCs as miis and mod miis in as new NPCs.
Every time a new Nintendo Direct happens, I always see people asking for more Tomodachi life. When Miitopia was ported over to the switch, I heard it's praises sung for weeks on end. When Switch Sports was announced, my entire friend group let out a collective sigh of relief, thankful that Miis hadn't completely died out yet. People still love Miis. I still love Miis. I litterally cried when I found put Miitopia was getting ported to the switch. I cried! Real tears! Over Miis! I'm not saying that they wouldn't benefit from some new options, of course. I think Miitopia was a good start for making Miis more customizable, but there's also plenty of room to grow in that regard. What I am trying to say is that the Mii branding shouldn't die, not when it was so close to becoming an integral part of Nintendo's identity, much like Mario or Link.
im a part of the huge crowd of 3 people whos favorite console is the wii u. splatoon is my favorite game series, and the wii u gave birth to that, nintendoland is my favorite party game, i actually like the wii u menus, the music is so good i hum the system settings song sometimes, the gamepad is awesome, and even more that i cant think of off the top of my head. anyways, great video
I forget the exact name at the moment but it’s from Mario Paint on SNES, I believe it’s called Exercise 02(?) but if you look up the ost you should find it :)
Not gonna mention Miitopia Switch's makeup feature? It turned a character creator into a straight-up art program. To see Miis be cast aside in switch sports after such a leap was made is just sad.

Congratulations on getting algorithmed, and getting 1K! I've watched your stuff, ever since I came across that Monkey Ball comment of yours, back in April. It's too bad Nintendo dropped the Miis, after the new sleek, modern style, of the Switch was brought into homes, but I guess that's how they wanted to evolve as a company. In my opinion, the Switchs' menu is pretty bland and lifeless, compared to Nintendo's other consoles, but at the same time I see the console catering to a more direct audience that focuses its attention to the games, and not the console.
My issue with their removal is that Microsoft not only created their own avatar system, but it still remains strong and available for everyone. Nintendo not wanting to hold onto the idea they created themselves is a waste of potential.

Unfortunately I don’t have any experience with it! 😭 I do want to get around to it eventually, maybe I’ll make a video on it once I play it haha
@@GregCubed i’ve been playing it since it came out, it’s quite good - i’ve restarted the game a few times since, cause it’s easy to get into
also, the miis appeared on the ds in tomodachi collection.
I wish Nintendo would bring the Miis back more prominently
12:21: Nintendo Land, Wii Party U, dude. How could you forget the literal 2 best Wii U games that aren't on Switch yet?
I love Mii’s. The customization and their general self insertness when it comes to certain games appeals greatly to my inner writer.
This video is great, I was surprised to see that this is such a small channel
Miiverse was by far the best thing to come out of whole Mii era. I think I've seen hundreds of different Miiverse screenshots so far that had me rolling with laughter. I was also one of the few who experienced it first hand, as I actually did have a Wii U ... a completely surreal experience.
Watch
That's on Miiverse its 50 episodes of raw Miiverse
with stuff like a scripted about a guy holding a knife an the other guy sees him chop their last lemonade
I am surprised this channel only has 1k subs. Its quality deserves many more.
Miis forever will be iconic avatars. I would have fun making my favorite characters as Miis and seeing them cheer me on defeating matt on swordplay
"Miis on the Wii U were the most robust and expansive version yet"
IIRC, they're identical to the 3DS Miis in terms of features and customization. The only plus side is that the Wii U allowed 3000 Miis, something I wish Tomodachi Life allowed too :P
I speculate that Miitopia might also be a factor in why Miis have been vanishing.
Miitopia is amazing
I beg for a Sims 3 or so size experience of Tomodachi an Miitopia
@@senritsujumpsuit6021 I wish I found Miitopia amazing. I really wanted to love that game.
@@GhabulousGhoti Most my fun was watching others play for their reactions to their characters daily lives haha
@@senritsujumpsuit6021 Part of why my partner and I started a TH-cam playthrough of the game was because I was looking to see if I'd enjoy it more that way - having initially played it on my own and being largely disappointed by it.
@@GhabulousGhoti awe couple goals :D
great video as always man! your witty writing and editing is such a comfort.
Loved the vid, keep it up! Glad to be in the first 500 subs too, better get in quick before you blow up soon. Seems a lot of people are getting you recommended, so happy for you!
So glad youtube recommended your channel to me, keep up the vids! ur gonna blow up
damn bro this is solid keep up the good work you're gonna blow up fr this is high quality, thanks for the vid
In Australia 50% actually is a passing grade. The only two places I've been to know it not to be are China and Japan, where a minimum of 60% is a passing grade.
I have fond memories of playing on the 2DS, making Miis, but to hear this is heartbreaking.
Remember me when you get famous, your content is amazing!
Nintendo are really weird about abandoning things that worked for them in the past. Like the Virtual Console.
Love to see you blowing up (as you have deserved for well over a year now) off this video. Salutations Greg
The severe lack of miis on switch makes me a very miiserable virgin
Holy crap you only have not even half of 1k subs! I though you’d be one of those 100K subs TH-camrs. That’s crazy bro, keep up the good work!
As far as I'm concerned especially what Nintendo has been up to recently I'm really starting to feel that some people may be right all along about miis being phased out. Nice video by the way.
"Early cave miis"
Dude. "Mii-anderthals" was *right there*.
Damn it where were you 2 weeks ago 😭
HELL YES I DO
@@sagebluer My Pixiv is linked directly on my channel's About page. Have fun! 🙂
I had no idea that the Miis could be transferred between consoles through the Wiimote... that's genuinely pretty awesome.
Even Nintendo couldn't get the name right. They call it Nintendo Switch Sports. Instead of just Switch Sports.
Honestly, wish the Mii creator they added in Miitopia became the base Mii creator. That was by far the most creative avatar creator I have ever seen.
They just added extensive Mii support to Mario Kart Tour with lots of cosmetics pertaining to Miis. I honestly was shocked.
This is really good editing for a small channel or even a big channel. Very nice :)
im a part of the huge crowd of 3 people whos favorite console is the wii u. splatoon is my favorite game series, and the wii u gave birth to that, nintendoland is my favorite party game, i actually like the wii u menus, the music is so good i hum the system settings song sometimes, the gamepad is awesome, and even more that i cant think of off the top of my head. anyways, great video
The fact that this video is blowing up proves we’ve all been wondering this. Great video! Hope it brings more people to your channel.
Wow you deserve way more subs! Great video, I'll be sure to watch more
Wow, a paid comment!
@@AarturoSc i actually just enjoyed myself lul
underrated channel! great job brought back some great memory's!
I’ve been looking for the song at 3:36 for so long, does anyone know the name of it?
I forget the exact name at the moment but it’s from Mario Paint on SNES, I believe it’s called Exercise 02(?) but if you look up the ost you should find it :)
@@GregCubed thank you
I find it ironic that the console that people loved Miis on most is the only Post-Mii console to not have them in Super Smash Bros
Not gonna mention Miitopia Switch's makeup feature? It turned a character creator into a straight-up art program. To see Miis be cast aside in switch sports after such a leap was made is just sad.
crazy you only have 2k subs bro i was expecting at least 100k. can't wait to see you grow
Bot comment.
9:46 "One of two games" he says while showing footage of the (Incredibly underrated) DLC games.
Some of you have never played Mii Force and it shows.
This channel is so underrated. Subscribed.
11:03 holy shit Joe Keery was in a WiiU commercial
You only have 900 subscribers?? Saw this on my recommended and thought you had 100k or so, the editing and quality of your videos are great! Keep it up honestly you'll blow up soon
Holy crap! This video is excellent!
P.S. I still love the Miis
This Video gives me strong Quinton Reviews Vibes especially with the rant at the end... I love it! Great Video keep it up, hopefully you'll get 1k and Ad Sense soon
BANGER VID!!! Welcome to the line up, kid -Phil voice, Hercules
For someone who doesnt do this for a living the editing is actually cold
"Hard to find someone who hasn't made one."

That Sonic Forces joke took me out lmao
I want the miis back...
How is your channel not bigger? I guess the algorithm found me because this video was amazing. Seriously keep the awesome videos and you’re going to blow up.
So many quotable moments.
I learned stuff.
I legit LOLed
I’m a fan already.
Nintendo's abandonment of the Miis is just bizarre. Especially since the Switch was still promoted as a social console.
The DS-WiiU era Nintendo felt a bit naff at the time, but I miss it now.
Good video! But when you mentioned what Wii U games actually heavily utilized Miis, you left out Wii Party U!
Wow, this was a awesome funny and informative video. I love it. Just subbed. You deserve way more recognition!
god i loved street pass so much as a kid. seeing that little green light filled me up with joy knowing i walked by someone else with a 3ds but never saw them unless it was a friend
Amazing video! You’re gonna blow up one day, I can feel it 🎉
Very informative
Its come to a point where ANY StreetPass I get will get me excited. I have been waiting 5 years and no StreetPass. Prob cuz no one here has a 3DS anymore but I still want to see new Miis. I'm still grateful that I managed to somehow obtain 1558 Miis in my StreetPass plaza. Help a guy out in Chicago, I'm still missing pieces in my Puzzle Swap game ;-;
Where did you find that post at 11:37? Nintendo PROMISED me all miiverse posts were deleted...
I have no idea why you have so little subscribers!! Your content is great, you are well spoken and camera quality is great. Just found you and was an instant sub. You need more recognition!
Keep up the amazing work ❤
Congratulations on getting algorithmed, and getting 1K!
