[One of Japan's largest active volcanoes] Mt. Aso has seven craters

Mount Aso, located in Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture, is one of the largest active volcanoes in Japan. It is composed of five mountain bodies called Nekodake, Takadake, Nakadake, Karasubodake, and Kishimadake, collectively known as the Aso Gogaku (Five Aso Mountains). The most active of them all, Nakadake Crater No. 1, is approximately 600 m in diameter and 130 m deep. It has a circumference of 4 km and seven craters.
【Route】
From the Sunasenrigahama trailhead, walk in the direction of Minamidake and ascend the valley that rises 200m in elevation from Sunasenrigahama to the crater rim at a stretch.
Nakadake (1,506m) along the crater rim and climbed to the summit of Takadake (1,592m), the highest of the five Aso peaks.
Takadake was selected as one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan and one of the 100 most famous mountains in Kyushu.
