[Beautiful View] Eating and drinking in the unexplored land where the gods live #japaneseculture
Sea of clouds
Kunimigaoka, 513 meters above sea level, is famous for its sea of clouds. The best time to see the sea of clouds is early in the morning in autumn, when the weather is clear, windless, and cool.
Takachiho Gorge
The gorge is a gorge where pyroclastic flows from the Aso Volcano eruptions in the past flowed out in a band along the Gokase River and cooled rapidly, resulting in the wonderful columnar-jointed cliffs.
The cliffs, which reach 100 meters at their highest point and 80 meters on average, stretch about 7 kilometers from east to west.
The Manai Falls, viewed from a rented boat, are a powerful sight! You can experience the 17-meter drop.
Takachiho Shrine
You can experience “Takachiho no Yoru Kagura,” which is designated as a national Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset. The origin of this authentic kagura performance is said to be the dance performed by Ame-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto in front of Amaterasu when Amaterasu hid behind Ama-no-Iwato (Amaterasu was the goddess of the sun).
Four representative kagura numbers from the 33 kagura numbers are performed every night for one hour from 8:00 p.m. at the Kaguraden on the grounds of Takachiho Shrine.
