    Great review! I’m old school also and love hydro walk behinds with a sulky. I started with one of those affordable 2 wheel units as well. It gets the job done so much quicker versus walking.

    Thanks for sharing the experience, I'm feeling better about buying an old fixer-upper version of your mower. I've got the same velke, and the rear pivot joint is missing hardware and really sloppy......does your velke have thrust bearings (brass) top and bottom between pin and sleeve of the rear pivot joint?

    Damn, I value your opinion. Do you think a standard would be a better option if the money didn't matter? Or is there a reason to walk behind is actually more versatile? If money was no object which more would you have?

    • @DansVlog
      @DansVlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not like standers because I believe they are too heavy, overpriced, impossible to work on alone if you ever have to get under it and if something ever happens in the backyard you’ll never get it into your trailer without a shit load of help.

    Do you guys that have an Exmark walkbehind like the hand grip style over the newer Toro style? I love my Exmark but the Toro might be less stress on the hands, ligaments etc. or maybe not. Any feed back appreciated. Exmark mowers have a fantastic cut and transmission etc.!

    When I was a kid I remember seeing a lawncare company mowing with a fleet of walk behinds with a seat over one wheel. They were mowing a very rough lawn; so they were constantly bouncing.

    • @DansVlog
      @DansVlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never seen one wheel seats but I did use 2 wheel sheets back in the 90’s

      After I made that comment I was on Scags website and saw the mower. It actually was not a walk behind but what they called a three wheeled rider.

    • @DansVlog
      @DansVlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will not speed me up, just take some miles off my joints. Velke's arent going to make the grass shorter or the mower bigger. Speed equals bounce/chopping cuts.

    I'm getting a 36 in wright walk behind to start doing my own thing. We have one at my job with a one wheel sulky and honestly on a smaller mower the lines don't look bad, almost looks like it was push mowed. I like the look of the ez ride you can stand on it ride it backwards and has pedals so it won't jack knife while standing on it.

    Hey Dan, thanks for all the videos that you do. I have a 48in sit down zero turn and Im looking to get a 32 or 36 in walk behind for small gated back yards. I've never driven one and when I went to look at then they had a lot of different type as far as how you drive them. They had t bars, pistol grip and double lever bars. It was a little over whelming. I have tried to get in contact with a number of mower companies to find out about demos but haven't been very successful. What are your thoughts on which brand and drive handles belt drives or hydros. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks again.

    I have an Exmark 1 wheel on my 36" tt that I bought with the mower. It leaves a line yes but it's zero maintenance. I have a 2 wheel that came with my 54" Toro Proline hdx that I do like being on more. I just bought a goslide and I have not received it yet

    • @DansVlog
      @DansVlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like both one and 2 wheel velkes but it depends on what I am attaching it to. A one wheel on a hydro that can go backyards wicked fast is dangerous for the ankles on a one wheel. Belt drive walk behinds I prefer the one wheel. The slides are garbage in my opinion. The first time a customer heard you slide across their driveway they are going to be like WTF?

    • @jeremyg7975
      @jeremyg7975 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dan's vlog it is really more for my knees that I bought the slide. But it's in the air whether I end up using it or returning it. Does the Bradley have run flats? I didn't get the more expensive proslide which opens and closes by itself cause I read about people having to replace parts on it yearly. I probably should have spent a little more and bought a ZT to begin with but I got a 8k+ machine for 6300 plus tax and I couldn't say no. It's comparable to a tt x series

    Had that one on my Scag. The Pin that attaches to the mower begins to wear and it will shimmy on you causing the Velky swing back in forth. Was causing my lower back pains. Ended Up putting a bolt and locknut on torqued it down. The Spacers get to be a huge pain and messing with a greasy pin is another bag of worms

  • @PattDizzle
    @PattDizzle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the larger swivel wheel style from Bradley Mowers. It also has the quick mount that allows you to lock it up out of the way and also to remove it super quickly. I will agree, it weights a ton and it can be tricky to get into tight areas. I have it mounted to my Bobcat 54" Hydro. I havent had much issues with turning though as the larger deck tends to put me further away from objects that would obstruct the turn. It definitely can cause the mower to wheelie if you have a sensitive hydro or you weight as much as a small car... (265 pounds like moi)

    • @DansVlog
      @DansVlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Pat, ya the wider deck on your mower definetly helps keep you away from walls and fences

    Your point about caster sulkies being too ridged/non pivoting and hitting walls is spot on, but you should have mentioned that the one wheel Velke is least likely to kit because it is the most narrow. In your demonstration, you were about to hit your welding machine and had to reposition the sulky to not hit it when you went to drive again, but if it were a one wheel Velke it would have missed it. just sayin
