After looking about for an hour this was my solution. Huge Thanks. My VW buddy says even new carbs (which mine is) have issues with the jet needing a tab bit more bore and it needing backed off just a bit.
I think there are adjustments on the left side of the carb. I think there is an idle air adjustment on the left. I think the jets should be seated, not overly tight. Disclaimer. I haven’t worked on any bug in over 25 years.
Hi, this video was four years ago and I sold the car shortly after making this video. The issue was corrected by replacing the carburetor. Thanks for watching :)
I have adjusted them before but it was a long time ago. Make sure the linkage is very high quality. I have seen them run great "cold" then won't idle when "hot" because the lingage expands. You can purchase a carb sync tool which measure the flow of each carb and then you match them. Check www.thesamba.com/vw/ which a great source for anything VW. Thanks for the comment good luck!
I had the same experience. I found the same solution Colorado found. Just like you - it works fine then vibrates out of position. It is not intended to be adjusted. I came here hoping he had a solution for the issue. I even replace the jet. I think the carb is not able to breath for some reason or another. I did adjust air and fuel screws repeatedly and ensured all vacuums were good. I think the carb just needs rebuilt or replaced.
@@Bruehoyt I fixed my problem, the problem was that the thread from carburetor was all messed up, so I took the carb off and took it to a local carb shop and they did the thread again, now the idle jet has no problems. Hope it helps.

Great vid! Fun car to zip around CO!
sounds like it's racing, get tack to get hi rpm and low rpm, mat check timing too.
At 13 minutes, it sounds like you fixed the issue.
At 6:20, is the choke completely open? Is the idle step cam off the screw?so that it could idle at the lowest rpm?

I don’t know if you got the issue fixed yet but did you plug that vacuum line in your intake manifold? That should have a vacuum plug on it.
I have duel carbs. How do you adjust them evenly.

My idle jet shoots right off after couple runs on the street, I put some loctite but it’s loose now again. Have you had any problem like this?
Hello, I have not had that experience. I replaced the carb on this car with a good, used one and the idle problem went away. I wish you well.
Colorado VW Projects oh I see, thanks! You too!
