Figs are hard work in the humid subtropics but I love them so will persist with a few.
Yes great to have him nearby to help me with my figs. I never thought it would be hard for you to grow them there. Thanks for your visit Doug.
@@VirginiaFruitGrower they grow okay but then get knocked around by whitefly and fig leaf beetles. Then the fruits often split prematurely in the humid and rainy summers.

Very cool footage makes me want to start growing figs. A few of my neighbors have fig trees the one has a pretty large one that is doing very well.
You should as they're delicious and pump out a good number of fruit. You could easily root a cutting from your neighbor's tree. Hope you're having a great weekend *Jacob* :)

Interesting to watch these different kinds of varieties of figs. It looks like some are dwarf trees. Plenty of fruits on the dwarf trees, very cute.

South Dakota can get super cold but you could grow figs in pots if you really wanted to. Thanks so much for watching!

well this is the time of year were i set with my plant catalogs and go on line seeing what i'am going to order next year. even though i have 2 acres, its getting a bit tight trying to find a spot open as i have to have room for the goats and fowl. still have violet de bordeaux negronne ( fig) hanging on the tree, i have 6 varieties presently and have some wants out there still. funny have been looking at figs videos off and on this week and yours pops up. THANKS
Good timing on the vid I suppose. I recently found this misplaced SD card that this was on so a few videos will be quite delayed. Fig collecting can be dangerous too. Having George nearby is like having a fig tree enabler lol. I do want to get the Super Jumbo DK, Super Red Hybrid and maybe the Marco Gold. He rates them pretty highly. I258 is great too if you don't have that already. Wish I had a goat and a few chickens + 2 acres. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving *Dianna!!*
@@VirginiaFruitGrower just sold 13 goats this summer , down to 3 now. there like naughty children checking the gates to see if i forgot to latch them so they can make there escape to eat my roses, one time eating the bark off 7 fruit trees killing them! I had a avocado arrive by ups put it in the greenhouse went inside to do other things came back out to the greenhouse 2 baby goats went under the gate and into the green house they had striped all the branches off the $130.00 tree ! goat stew was running threw my head. on the plus side the avocado burst forth many branches afterwards it wanted to live.

Chicago hardy is a good variety and tolerates a lot of cold. You guys in Michigan get super cold so I imagine you probably protect yours. Great to see you stop by as always. See you around amigas!
