Berd spokes weigh 2.5 grams per spoke. Sapim CX Ray spokes weigh 4.25 grams per spoke. Difference is 1.75 grams per spoke - or total weight savings of 42 grams on a 24 spoke wheel. My guess is that the increased aerodynamic drag of Berd spokes negates any weight savings, with the sole advantage being increased compliance if that is even noticeable with Lauf fork and 2.2 tire.
Agreed, most cyclists believe that wheel weight is ~5x worse than other weight and that they will accelerate appreciably faster or whatever with lighter wheels though. If you actually do the math its more like wheel weight is 1.2x worse than other weight, and only when accelerating hard. 42grams of spokes wouldn't even save you 1 watt in a 1,500 watt sprint, and you will lose more than that to aero drag.
@@JackMott I don't think this make much sense giving the fact everybody has a huge ass numberplate at the front destroying the aerodynamic advantage of every areospoke.

Any mechanical engineer will tell you that a spring without damping makes a terrible suspension. I am willing to wager that Rudy fork or Specialized suspension head tube will crush this Lauf fork in a test.
@@well5423 do you think its wasting more energy wobbling up and down than a rigid fork is bouncing up and down? the lauf is far lighter than the forks you think would win in "a test" and zero maintenance for life, which are not trivial considerations

If the two bladders are not connected, how does he get the water from the frame bag to the handlebar bladder? Seems like it would take a lot of time if he had to transfer it somehow?
I don't know why more hydration isn't into the frame area. The physics of it being on the back isn't good. Easy switching/refill would be the only issue.
Why wouldnt you just run an actual disc wheel? If its muddy, a proper disc would be the cleanest setup with no way to build mud in the wheel. The new zipp is almost the same width as the Emporia rim.
I’m not convinced the rear disk is doing what he thinks it’s doing because his legs and torso definitely upset the air. Also, his front “aero” bladder is stuck in the middle of a bunch of other things upsetting airflow. He’s missing an opportunity to make his stomach and chest aerodynamically smoother by carrying water there. He should have enclosed the main triangle fully, and continued out past the rear stays.

You don't really have enough data to conclude anything, maybe those aero gains took him from a 147th place to 47th. If just having an aero bike secured you a top 10, what's the point of having a race.
First of all, what’s “Franken” about it? My plane Jane Warbird doesn’t look the same as my mtb, nor does it look the same as bikes from the early 1900s. Bikes change. I think this looks fine, and makes a lot of sense. I run a top tube and frame bike on my Warbird all the time, just for convenience. Why not have the storage capacity, and then use it to make the bike faster as well? Cars have gotten more cupholders and cubbies over the years, just for practicality, why not bikes?
