I spent 22 years as a State Police Trooper and I've never thought a cars color had anything to do with whether or not the driver was ticketed. It seems to me that there are far more cars on the road with gray and silver paint varieties, than in the red color palette. I think the particular shade of red should be considered. Are you talking bright red or a more subtle crimson shade? I've always felt that I ticketed many more drivers of gray or silver cars than drivers in varying shades of red. Not every driver of a reddish color car, drives in excess of the posted speed limits. A driver in a silver or even a blue Corvette, Mustang, Camaro, etc., is far more likely than a driver in a red Corolla, Elantra, Civic, etc., to drive well above the posted speed limit. The type of car and its engine performance generally determines the way its driven. Most drivers don't buy a high performance 400hp car to drive 10 mph under the speed limit, just as drivers don't buy fuel efficient "econo-boxes" to drive with the tachometer needle buried in the redline range.
Hey hey hey. I'm the guy that wrote in, and you can cut back on the gay comments. This is the coolest, best taken care of car I could find in my budget.
If you compare it by ratio, gray color car actually has more violation per population than red car does. White: 19/25 = 0.76 % citation per 1 % POP Red: 16 /14 = 1.14 Gray: 10 / 6 = 1.67 Silver: 5 / 10 = 0.5 Since 1.67 (gray) > 1.14 (red), gray color cars on average have more tickets per driver than red car does.
Back in my youth (1960s), I drove a beige VW and my friend drove a yellow Corvette. I always said I could drive 20 mph faster than him and get fewer tickets. Before radar, speed was more subjective. I don't think it makes as much difference now. As you said, the red saying has been around forever. Probably before radar. BTW, I have friends who dabble in used cars. When a car needs to be painted, you can bet it will be painted "Resale Red". Another old saw that has been around forever and is true today.
Cooley, Think you were the one that talked about clarify the audio system that uncompress music in cars , I was told the new Avalon is going to have that feature!
Saul Villalobos But it's still red tho, just a different shade, every manufacturer nowadays do a red color, been there done that. I'm talking about colors more along the lines of Mazda's Celestial blue mica, or Nissan's Misty Emerald Metallic. Etc.
Saul Villalobos well your entitled to your opinions, but to me it's just another red color, that's why I bought my Mazda 6 in Reflex Blue Mica, it was a pain in the ass finding one in that color but atleast I'm the only one around my area with that color, and I LOVE that.
I have wide variety of cars if is a bright color it stands out in a crowd if it just white black etc hard to spot in a crowd so if drive quick make it not so obvious no stickers nothing to stand out
I elicit more looks from police (just looks) going for a long walk wearing a non-hoodie sweatshirt that I have in my 15 months of driving a bright red Malibu Premier.
Legal regulations I think. There's a bunch that probably could do with changing, but trying to get anything done is a massive effort. I guess companies think it's more cost efficient to comply than fight it for now.
What really gives this mess its strength is as Cooley said red is typically associated with sports cars cuz red is actually a fairly popular color in sports cars that being said there is a lot of people who buy a red car because it is red and a lot of these people would like to own a sports car but can't afford to buy a sports car so they end up buying a red car on many occasions that sometimes somebody has already done some modifications to or they are planning on doing some cheap modifications to themselves so they tend to be more aggressive drivers being less considerate of other Road users and speeding a lot more frequently as well also generally drivers of red cars who aren't buying the car because they want a sports car such as me or Either professional drivers or good drivers and we are paying attention to the speed limit signs unlike the jackass in the BMW who is going 5 to 10 miles an hour under the speed limit who insisted on passing us when we were accelerating which can cause us to become more aggressive and passed them and clearly marked no passing zones because people who tend to Drive Right cars also tend to be more tentative than people who drive black gray or yellow cars and more conscientious of what they are doing is well we also tend to be the people who would rather go to miles an hour over the speed limit even driving past a cop especially in an area where we know that the cops aren't going to care about that 2 miles an hour over versus going 5 to 10 miles an hour under in fact in the area I live in the cops say that 5 miles an hour under and they would not consider that impeding the flow of traffic which can get you a ticket but they would start considering it at 10 miles an hour under for sure and 15 miles an hour under is when they would have to start enforcing that unless conditions persist that mean that driving at the speed limit would not be safe and generally when somebody who is driving aggressively is driving a red car because it is a color that stands out more and elicits more of an emotional response in you as a human being in general when somebody sees a red car driving aggressively versus a white car or a green car or blue car or silver car they tend to remember that incident more easily and more vividly than if it were a silver car or a black car driving the exact same way which in that case just means that it is more of an emotional thing that they are remembering the red car being aggressive but not the black silver or white car because they probably weren't even paying attention for that car that was one of those colors that does not stand out in our minds automatically.
I saw a study a few years ago that concluded drivers of blue cars were the most aggressive drivers. WRX STi Drivers skewing a whole demographic.
Ah yes, Rally Blue, though I think that's specifically a fairly bright blue shade.
I think more then a few Honda Black Honda Civics would disagree.
it's because blue is more popular in faster cars, duh
I'm guilty haha

Yea only if they were black
You got pulled over all the time because its a Cobalt
Hey hey hey. I'm the guy that wrote in, and you can cut back on the gay comments. This is the coolest, best taken care of car I could find in my budget.
Young guy + Mustang + Red = Speeding ticket
If you compare it by ratio, gray color car actually has more violation per population than red car does.

Red: 16 /14 = 1.14

Silver: 5 / 10 = 0.5

So….. don’t buy a gray car?
Red cars also have a better chance to avoid an accident because they're the ones who get spotted first.
I figured it would be black cause it's more suspicious
Kes but it blends in well
I think they're assuming speeding tickets, not only or merely instances of being pulled over.
Wouldn't you say red is also the safest color? Less likely to be involved in accidents? Be seen, be safe mentality?
your right red is easily seen and i always see the plane black grey and white in more accidents
The red taillights blend in with the rest of the car making them harder to see by the driver behind you
I would also consider a red car because I think people are less negligent around red cars.
another fun fact ! ...
Red, Yellow and White cars are less prone to be hit by another car than Grey, or Black cars.
I have a 08' red/orange Hayabusa. Only had 1 ticket so far but the cop was being crooked and kept changing his story about where he clocked me from.

Yes, he was.
Lets have a discussion on why cars nowadays come in such boring colors.
Dee T EXCEPT my 2016 Mazda 3 with its soul red metallica paint. Simply stunning. 🔥🤘🏻
Saul Villalobos But it's still red tho, just a different shade, every manufacturer nowadays do a red color, been there done that. I'm talking about colors more along the lines of Mazda's Celestial blue mica, or Nissan's Misty Emerald Metallic. Etc.
Dee T sorry man but that is NOT just another shade of red. Its very attractive and elegant. It draws you.
Saul Villalobos well your entitled to your opinions, but to me it's just another red color, that's why I bought my Mazda 6 in Reflex Blue Mica, it was a pain in the ass finding one in that color but atleast I'm the only one around my area with that color, and I LOVE that.
Because selling one would be next to impossible
I daily a RED 350Z and i can confirm we men love Tig ol’ Bitties!
Was just talking about this a few days ago lol
Never buy a red car be warned I have a horror story.. that still haunts me today 30 years later
But if the driver is black it won't matter what color your car is
As we know cops do have IR vision that can see thru tinted windows.
This just means that cops in murica write tickets based on feelings... Nice..
...or red is easier to spot among speeders.
I always heard that red cars get stolen more often.
How about amber lights while typical yellow headlights are on in the night? For me it confuses me since they are around the same color.
Need more of this fix.....please upload more Cooley videos.
Where are you seeing gray trees?
Total Coolness
Were those Priuses?
Brian Cooley is the best!
I have wide variety of cars if is a bright color it stands out in a crowd if it just white black etc hard to spot in a crowd so if drive quick make it not so obvious no stickers nothing to stand out
I have a victory red cobalt ss supercharged and I can confirm cops and other cars get up my nose all the time
That's awesome! I'm I have your car just the 2.4L Sport model. I'm saving up to get a supercharger on it.
BANG that was Cooley
Cooley
It seems "arrest me gray" would be more accurate. 🤷♂️
I have my tail lights tinted tehee
Best colour car is that diarrhoea colour you could keep it unlocked and no one will even steal it
I elicit more looks from police (just looks) going for a long walk wearing a non-hoodie sweatshirt that I have in my 15 months of driving a bright red Malibu Premier.
Probably white cars just because those are the most on road
A person who likes a red colored car is more likely to drive with a heavy foot. Excited minds seem to like the color red.
👍🏽
I miss cnet on cars
Matte Black OP
This is a myth. It's that more people that drives red cars, breaks more traffic laws.
Well fuck....
Why not? Time to change to amber. It’s doable
Legal regulations I think. There's a bunch that probably could do with changing, but trying to get anything done is a massive effort. I guess companies think it's more cost efficient to comply than fight it for now.
good point
Amber is your 4 ways flashers
What about black
