    Hello, the pedals are looking great!
    Potentiometers exist in two different types, Linear and Logarithmic.
    - Linear is what you want to use for this kind of projects.
    - Logarithmic is what you want for audio (volume control) applications.
    Also, any value for the potentiometers should be fine, if it is connected
    1 -> 5V
    2 -> A0
    3 -> GND
    where 2 is the central pin of the potentiometer.
    Value should matter if other resistors are used in the circuit, but in this simple case it's not necessary.

      Thank you. Agree the potentioeters shouldnt make diff. But in this application it does. I have tried multiple potentiomiters and found that certain values do not give enough range. As said in the video the acelerator would start half way or or only go half way depending which way around you connect them and would not have worked it they were connected incorrectly. It it may be due the way the original creator of the firmare coded it. causing them not to utalize its full resolution. Also the pedal only has about 1/4th travel on the pot. 1/4 th on 100k and 1/4 th on a 1k does not pose the same amount of resistance. Cheers!

      @@Mailmartinviljoen Sounds like you did not calibrate them in windows and/or the game.
      Calibrate in Windows. Than they will ONLY work in the range where you can actually move them.
      This is crucial for almost every controler to work properly. Even freshly bought xbox controllers should be calibrated first!

    Hey bro nice work ! Can i ask you, why doe we need the leonardo ? Can i just use an uno instead ?

    • @Mailmartinviljoen
      @Mailmartinviljoen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quite simple :-) The Leonardo is making use of a different chip that allows it to behave as a computer peripheral. I.E it can emulate Keyboard/Mouse/Joystick. The Arduino Uno cannot do that in standard form. There is however a way to reflash its chip but then it cannot be used with the arduino IDE anymore and will also not be compatible with the wheel software. If you look in the Standard Arduino ide under examples->USB there are some examples that you can look at. In the header it clearly tells you it will only work with a Leonardo.

    I'm planning on building this soon, but i'm a bit confused on how the bearings do anything. How are they attached to the bolt that is used to hold the pedal in place, as it looks like it just sits in the hole.

    • @Mailmartinviljoen
      @Mailmartinviljoen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well spotted :-) They don't do anything, call it a design flaw if you like. They are only there to provide a steel pivot as opposed to running the plastic directly on the steel bolt

    • @puffball1794
      @puffball1794 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mailmartinviljoen would it be possible to use a longer bolt and put a nut on the end so it actually uses the bearing?

    Why do you use linkages instead of opting for a design with a 3d printed hinge that spins the potentiometer? I want to create my own design but I'm not sure if using linkages is going to be the option I want to use.

    • @Mailmartinviljoen
      @Mailmartinviljoen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean attaching the pot to where the pedal pivot on the body? I used the links because it was easier to design it that way. Also allows me to hide it out of the away. Not sure if i understand you correctly.

    • @pugplaysgames1360
      @pugplaysgames1360 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mailmartinviljoen Yeah that's what I meant, sorry for the convoluted sentence. Also thank you, your reasoning behind your design decision, it helps a lot. I'm working on a similar design but didn't know if the linkage was spinning the pot to a further degree; which could be beneficial.
