I committed a treason against SR Yugoslavia, AITA?
So basically my family was just a normal Serbian family living in Brod, Yugoslavia (today Bosnia) but for some reason my family had a lot of important Serbian traditions that they weren't paying respect to/never organised. An example of this is Slava, the most important cultural day of any Serb, where you and your family pray and thank the house spirit keeper (orthodox saints) for keeping the house in one piece. But for some reason my family never told me why we didn't celebrate it. They always tell me that i am too young to think about that stuff, but one time when i was about 17 and got that answer again i just vent mad. I knew almost nobody celebrated Slava, but why? In all old books, songs and stories Slava is the most important day to a family of Serbs NO EXCEPTION. But they just looked at me bluntly. Thay rolled the blinds on windows and started explaining that any priest and especially entire day dedicated to thanking god is against the "System" we live in. I didn't quite understand them, but with my ageing came the more and more realisation. Only WE couldn't thank the God. Only WE couldn't celebrate our holy days. Only WE had restrictions against our religion. And who are we? Ortodox Serbs. It's quite a sad and a long story, but this country, country of all South Slavs, absolutely opposed culture and fait of the biggest nationality. And there was insane asimilation all over the Serbian parts of Yugoslavia. Story doesn't end here, no, it just gets deeper, but that story isn't realy to be told in a comment section. Long story short, i grew to despise Yugoslavia, but also to hate on Serbs that identified as "Yugoslovenians". And when the moment of civil war came, i leaked all the information i knew about Yugoslavia to the enemies. I thought Serbia would be an independent, normal country... And not just the colony. I was wrong. But i really thought i did something good for my people.
Am I the asshole?
Sometimes, even if all people agree, there is a possability all people are wrong.
There, only thing that can happend to a person that is right, is that they get called either dumb or crazy.
