    Re: the 'self portrait' art you reframed. I think it is a portrait of a woman in a white dress, with long brunette hair leaning on her right side. I think it is meant to be hung vertically as I think the original hanging wire for it went that way too..... And- last but definitely not least- amazing job you are doing with your house!!

    Don't let anyone tell you where to put your own stuff in your own home. That tapestry looks amazing and gives that side of the room all the color and adds to the character. I use to decorate as if Southern Living were stopping by at any moment for a photo shoot. But in my 50's, I now decorate for what makes my heart glow. And that tapestry right there....makes your heart glow. 💗

      Sooo much wisdom in this comment. Beautifully said. Made me feel very sad when he started the video explaining (reluctantly) that he may be moving the tapestry when it clearly makes him so happy in that spot. I hope he sees your beautiful remarks. I will remember this too: to "decorate for what makes my heart glow."

    The self portrait can be seen if you hold the painting in portrait instead of landscape mode. Her eye and lips are clear - very abstract, but visible, I believe

    • @sallystephen5706
      @sallystephen5706 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes! I was scanning comments to see if anyone else mentioned this. Also the wire strung across the back would have hung in portrait vs. landscape. The artist’s signature and title suggests the upright position of the painting, as well. However, I think people should enjoy art however they want to see it, so sideways it is!

    Drew, I know everyone is saying the same thing, but I want to add my two cents, too. I have to admit I wasn't crazy about the couch in the beginning, but the way you've put this room together with all of your vintage and antique finds it's just the yummiest room I've ever seen! I think the white blob was a puffy shirt or dress on a girl-and the big oval part above the white puffy shirt was a sideways face all now painted over with that eye looking thing in the middle. I think the tapestry will look amazing if you hang it in the stairwell. You say it's a bit of an obvious place to hang it, but there's a reason why grand taspestries like that are often hung in stairwells (it looks awesome!). With the height of the stairwell, you'll really be able to appreciate the full scale of the piece and it will look so dramatic.

    • @katanyajason3316
      @katanyajason3316 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@lonefox However, you can also consider the fact that this room will lose a lot of warmth and depth (the tapestry draws the eye in). Also, a tapestry in the stairwell will mostly be looked at fleetingly whereas in a living room people have time to explore and admire it.

    Drew, if you turn your painting into "portrait mode" instead of landscape like you have it and then hang it so the writing on the back is right side up you will see a perfect example of an "abstract self portrait". The nice thing about abstract though is that it doesn't matter how you hang it as long as it floats your boat! 🙂 The room is lovely. I love your table and chairs set up with the shelves. Oh my goodness, that club chair is EVERYTHING you needed to balance out that end of the room! Painting the built-in made much more of a difference than I had expected as well. The painting is definitely an abstract self portrait if you hold it a specific way, but it does appear that some aspects were either left unfinished or painted over as you mentioned. Maybe try to Google Lens the painting & signature to see if there is any information about the artist. I love how you managed the juxtaposition of the lightness of The Lobby compared to the very moody Theater, all while you are keeping a cohesive feeling yet celebrating the individuality of each space. I just LOVE this room! Everything came together beautifully! I adore the tree and those drapes are Lucious!
    Perhaps when all is done, and you do a walk-through of your entire home (please!) you could do it in the evening as well. I would love to see all those beautiful lights on and the fireplaces going for an evening ambiance. ❤

    I am convinced that as my Nana would have said that you are an "old soul" and she would have adored you. Everything you design is so magnificent and done with such love, care and hard work. I love how you value old pieces but have such an eye to bring the new in like that stunning sofa. Sending 💞 and thanks for your awesome videos.

    I don’t understand how people know how to decorate lol it looks SO good. It has to be related to how an artist paints and can see the potential picture. I don’t have that skill so it’s always interesting to watch.

    Drew....stunning!!. The room is giving me old movie vibes in a good way. My favourite part is the brown chair by the window. I would just light the fireplace, curl up in that chair with a good book and people and car watch in between.

    Absolutely gorgeous!!!!!! I love that eclectic look that gives a room the sense of collecting over the years. There’s no doubt that you are a very talented designer that is not going with the boring cliches that so many designers use. It’s a room that reflects the warmth of a home and the home owner. It’s welcoming as well as incredibly beautiful. ❤❤❤❤

    I love the mix of stone, wood, and pottery at the fire place. The little woven lamp on the floor?! What a great place for that all cozy near the cold tiles. This room is PERFECT. I say it’s perfect because you have so decadently incorporated different materials and periods. The couch I love in a space paired with antiques- especially that leather chair and moody tapestry. I’ve never seen that couch styled so well.

    Keep the tapestry where you love it!!! It's yours, you love it, it looks amazing there, so do it. I live in PR and many people get their windows professionally done with a uv coating that you can't see at all. Maybe something like that would help if you are worried about it fading, but please please please put it where YOU love it (and I love it there too...like you said, unexpected and PERFECT in the lobby)

    I very much like your plan for your tapestry. Preserving history is important, but so is enjoying the beautiful things we have. It’s a balancing act, and it sounds like you are not doing anything that will actively destroy your tapestry.
    It is better, to my mind, to use and enjoy (respectfully and conscientiously) the beautiful and fine things we have than to let them sit in dark corners. (Unless an item has exceptionally unique historical or intrinsic value, in which case, hello museums!)

  • @miimosa679

    A round ball burnt golden brass lamp shade over the sofa would be beautiful. It would give a bit of modernity... just 1 piece. The room is very dark moody and looks like the era from maybe 30 40 so years ago. I also think it needs a big pop of green... nature/plant. Lovely.

I really enjoy watching you pull everything together and make it all work. Take care, and God bless till the next video.

    Ok, Drew ... I love the tapestry in "The LOBBY" now that you have completely styled the room. You keep topping yourself with every room! This is beyond stunning!! It's chic modern-antiquity . . . I just can't get my jaw off the floor! For what it's worth, I would leave that tapestry right there. So it's a little long. Who cares? Having it behind the modern sofa is genius because a stand-alone tapestry can be very "in your face" medieval. But used as a backdrop? Perfection! And the soft pops of light blue in it carried around the room . . . you cannot beat it! Great job!!
