Hi, I’m new to Flywheel and I’m trying to fix a hack in a WP site that flywheel hosts, but I’m use to the usual cpanel and go into file manager with other hostings to see files. But I can’t seem to be able to find that when I log into my clients flywheel hosting account. Do you have a tutorial that covers that? Do I need to download the app to go into the backend? Please help.
All I wanted to do was design wordpress on my computer the large amount of time that I spent with those other software companies screwing around with the MySQL was a headache. Then I found your review about Local by Flywheel. I see that you had not missed a thing in your instruction step by step was so easy. Bjorn, Double Thumbs Up !
Hi Bjorn! Not sure if I commented before, but I've been going through a bunch of your tutorials this past couple months. You've quickly emerged as my favorite Wordpress TH-camr. Seriously, your vids are the best out there... so thorough and clear... always taking us through the process step-by-step. Just wanted to say thank you for putting out such great content... before I comment specifically about Local by Flywheel, which I'm about to do in a second :)
Where was I all this time with Xammp? I really needed efficiency? Creating sub domains for clients to view you work is HECTIC!!! This should be my new normal, after Covid, ofcourse.
Hi Anne, it's a pretty great tool. I use it almost every day :) It does use a bit of RAM if it's running for a long time. I shut mine down at the end of the day.
Hey Ron, I can't review the video right now, but I think I know what I did. On my Mac I hold down CMD on the keyboard and then click a link. On Windows you would hold down CTRL and click the link. In most cases, that will open the link destination in a new tab. If that's not what it is, let me know and I'll review 8:55 in the video.
Hey Bjorn, unfortunately, Local by Flywheel is having an "Error establishing a database connection" and their support is not that good tbh. My problem is, I was using Local for developing a client's site and now I can't work on it since this problem is occurring. My question is: Is there a way to transfer my work to a hosting service (siteground in specific) or a local environment so I can continue working on the website? I just don't wanna lose my work. Thank you!
When I first started making customer sites, I used Local by Flywheel. I had so much issues with the live preview url to share with the customers. I don`t know what happend but the site didn`t look right. Tried it in maybe 3-4 projects and from there I started to use a dev site on a real server. I really liked the sofware and without this issue I would be still using it.
Hi Jacky, You have to install Flywheel first, then you can install WordPress on your computer. You don't install WordPress first. Did you run into problems with this video?
Hey Jacky, Sorry for my delay in responding! When the site first boots up I get the same message sometimes or a 502 error. That means the site isn't 100% started yet. Then I wait 30 seconds or less, refresh the page and it works as expected after that. I hope that helps :) Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!
Here's a thread that may be helpful: local.getflywheel.com/community/t/fresh-install-on-windows-10/5669 Sorry for the delay in responding. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video - it is very informative. I do have a problem with localhost though. I cannot get to see the website, I get the following error (Windows - chrome) ‘No input file specified’ when I click on Open Site or Admin. I can, however, see the database if I click ‘Open Adminer’. It has a different port number - is that the reason and, if so, how do I change it?
At 5:20 in the video, I have a question. If I'm doing a build out for a client website, how does the u/n, p/w I input here at Flywheel affect their site when I ultimately upload it to their hosting server using all in one migration? Will they still be able to have their own u/n, p/w when I install WP on their domain name at a 3rd party hosting company?
Hi Kate, good question. The u/n and p/w you create will still be valid login credentials when you upload the site to any 3rd party host. You can think of those as your own admin access to the site. You can then log into the site and create a new user for your client. I have my own admin account on all my client's sites. Makes my work and life a lot easier. Especially since clients tend to lose our forget their login details because their website often isn't the focus of their business. I hope that helps and thanks for being part of the WPLL community Kate!
Hi Bjorn, I have installed v6.4.0 unable to add but whilst able to add Elementor I get a 500 Error if trying to add Elementor Pro. Do you have an idea where/how the files size uploads can be changed within Local by Flywheel?
I have tried adding a second site to work on another template but it simply hangs/buffers when connecting to admin. Is there something else I should do in order to add more sites? But I can open the first site I created without any problem.
Hi Andy, Adding all additional sites should work the same way as the first. Local by Flywheel does take of RAM to run and it will use more and more the longer it runs. I find shutting Local by Flywheel down and rebooting it brings the resource usage back down. Could it be that your computer's RAM is maxed out?
@@wplearninglab I've tried adding additioanl sites individually whilst other sites have been "stopped". On each occasion the original site has opened without hesitation. Hi Bjorn, with the plugin wp-db-backup I want to backup my database to my comp and then zip it and then download my folder / wp content via ftp on my computer and then zip it to load it into local by flywheel. is this a good way because my site is 1000mb large. and how do I do this in local by flywheel. Greetings and thanks for answer. Pernate
Hi Bjorn, you have a video where you can show how you can use ftp to transfer your live site to local by flywheel because the live site is 1000mb in size and therefore cannot upload with the free version of flywheel. hope to hear from you thank you in advance.
Thanks Bjorn. Outstanding video. Did I miss something though? Local Flywheel wants $275 a year to host a single site. They do it on GoDaddy and says they don't support the idea of using localhost. I was unable to get into wp-admin without paying them. So is local server environment with the free tool no longer available?
thanks for the video, but unless i missed it, i dont see the transition and/or link between the initial main site and the back up created and vice versa, can you comment on this please?
I'm not sure what you mean by "backup". I don't recall making a backup in this tutorial. Can you share the time in the video where you feel there's a discrepancy?
Hi Bjorn, I've started playing with Local by Flywheel to build our Drama Group site. I have tried the Live Link using a different browser, but I only seem to view a basic blank WP install rather than the page I have built. Do you have any idea where I may have gone wrong in setting things up? Cheers.
Hi Andy, I haven't encountered that issue when using live link. Have you made sure that you have the correct page set as the homepage under Settings and then Reading? That's the only thing I can think of. I doubt it's a caching issue, although clearing the cache or deactivating caching plugins may help.
I love your tutorials! Here i have a question. When you set up Flywheel for your site, how do you choose the version of PHP, MySQL and the type of web server? Should those match with the characteristics of the real hosting server you will use for your site?
I am planning to buy the MacBook Air M1 mainly for WordPress development. To use Local by Flywheel do I need a lot of RAM? Are 8GB enough or I am better off to invest on 16GB? Thanks to whoever will help me on this.
Hi, I have a question: if I want to test my website for the new version of PHP on the local flywheel, how do I do that? 1. first I make an updraftplus backup and upload the files to my computer. 2, I create an installation wordpress on flywheel. 3. Install updraftplus plugin. 4. I then upload the files to the local site on flywheel. 5. test the local site for the functioning of all plugins and pages. Is this the right order or do I miss something? Have you made a video about this? greeting Percy The Netherlands
This is great! I just installed their latest Local "Lightning", and it is indeed lightning fast... it's kinda bizarre actually, me being able to make changes (locally) and not having to wait 10-15 seconds after every change I make / page I visit. Truly a gamechanger in terms of development speed! Here's my issue/question though... I quickly made a local version of one of my sites from scratch (using Elementor), whereas my live site used Brizy Pro. I installed WPVivid Backup on both online and Local, and then Did a "Restore" on the live site using the Local backup. It worked, BUT... it didn't actually overwrite the live site, it kinda merged the two. What I mean is... all the live site data (posts/plugins, etc.) are still there... for example, Brizy Pro was still in the online version (except it was now deactivated and instead the Local version's Elementor was activated). Is there a way to completely OVERWRITE the live site with the local site?
So... I use Local but whenever I download a free theme (Starter template kit), it never comes out the way I see them or YouTude or their demo sites. How can I fix this?
Another Awesome Video, Bjorn. Two very quick questions. 1. If I have already started a site on a hosting account, can that site be brought into Local by Flywheel and if so, is it an export/import feature? 2. If I have paid themes & plugins (ie Elementor Pro) how do I use the key for that plugin on Flywheel? Thanks again!
Hi John, For number 1: I would use a plugin like Duplicator (th-cam.com/video/SkjAxA48SA8/w-d-xo.html) to clone from your live site to your local site. I'm still looking into even easier options. If Local by Flywheel allows it, we be able to use the SSH feature to create 1-click staging and development sites and easily move sites back and forth between development on local and live. For number 2: It's a different site, so technically you need to use another license for your premium plugins. I've had success reaching out to plugin creators and asking for a temp license to develop locally so the live site can stay remain functional. I haven't tried this with Elementor yet. I hope that helps and thanks for being a big part of the WPLL community!
Hi David, You're right. I have the business license so I can use it on three sites at a time. I can deactivate a site in my Elementor account and add a different site very easily.

Hi Vivian, You don't need cPanel on the local host and the program gives you easy access to the database and the site files on in a folder on your computer. What do you need cPanel for local host?
I installed local by flywheel version 5.9.0 on mac catalina. Then I down loaded wordpress and started to build a site. I want to uninstall local by flywheel and everything which came with it. But I can't uninstall from mac as it says it is open. Please help how can I uninstall local by flywheel from mac.
I get the following error when trying to run the website and I can't figure out how to solve it. I've read up on it as much as I understand and I know it's PID4 but I don't know what to do about it. The error is: Heads-up! Local's router is having trouble starting.
Q? - During my install of local, I had a computer crash, how can I do a complete uninstall to start over. I really like the idea of proving locally before sending out and see myself using this tool in my builds. I just need a do-over any ideas?
Hi Lance, Are you getting an error message that the program was partially installed? If not, you may be able to run the installer again. In Windows you should be able to use the uninstaller. On a Mac you may need be able to delete it from the Applications folder or may be need an uninstaller as well.
No message, and tried the installer again same result, spinning wheel (I'm Mac oriented btw). I tried deleting from the apps folder, but there must be residuals somewhere else that won't allow me to re-install cleanly.

Hi Lubo, I have a tutorial coming for moving local by flywheel sites to other hosts. Until then you can use a plugin like Duplicator to move the site. The process will be pretty much the exact same as in this video: th-cam.com/video/SkjAxA48SA8/w-d-xo.html I hope that helps and thanks for watching!

Hi Rebecca, It could be that Local by Flywheel is not updating your hosts file properly. Are you able to open your host file and see if there's an entry for the URL that won't load? If you Google 'open Windows host file' you'll find lots of help for finding that file.
I've tried this piece of software but it was harder to install then I thought. After some connection warnings, I've removed it from my computer. I have a fast internet connection also. So development on my local computer with this piece of software will bring me more headaches than I already have. ;-)
Hi Bertus, You could be right. The big benefit of working locally is if you have a laptop and you're not always connected to the internet. If you have a desktop and the internet is always there then this may be overkill.
Sorry Ron, I tend to speak quickly to get the videos done quickly because I only have small chunks of quiet at home, lol. 3 kids under 5 making working from home VERY challenging. I'll do my best to slow it down and be more clear. Thanks for your feedback! I don't know at which point in the video you heard "Mim" password, but it was probably supposed to be "Admin" password.
No problem, thanks for taking the time to make the video. I have been struggling with host problems, WordPress problems, template problems and now struggling a bit with getting Local by Flywheel to work..I think I took it out on you:-) Thanks!

Under the Database tab, how do I change the user name and password? If I change it in wp-config.php, when I refresh the site I get an error, and in wp_users we have the user and pass to login into the wp admin.
I don't have an area to set admin username/password in preferences???????
sir, please tell can we use c panel in this localhost please make a video on it
Hi Vivian,
You don't need cPanel on the local host and the program gives you easy access to the database and the site files on in a folder on your computer.
Hi Lance,
Are you getting an error message that the program was partially installed? If not, you may be able to run the installer again.
In Windows you should be able to use the uninstaller. On a Mac you may need be able to delete it from the Applications folder or may be need an uninstaller as well.
No message, and tried the installer again same result, spinning wheel (I'm Mac oriented btw). I tried deleting from the apps folder, but there must be residuals somewhere else that won't allow me to re-install cleanly.
HI Lance,
I've had great success with CleanMyMac for completely uninstalling programs. Or there might be some other resources if you Google it.
Sir I got an issue after installation of local flywheel ony pc. It shows erro saying EPERM error: can't copy file and the failed to run. Kindly give me a solution.
Sir i am using Localwp and i created one website and restore backup file which is 9gb to local host with the help of all in one migration pro . but when process is 100% it shown "Unable to import Your PHP is 32-bit. In order to import your file, please change your PHP version to 64-bit and try again." Sir how to fix that issue?
How would you transfer the site to the live hosting (in case it is not Flywheel)?
Hi Lubo,
I have a tutorial coming for moving local by flywheel sites to other hosts. Until then you can use a plugin like Duplicator to move the site. The process will be pretty much the exact same as in this video: th-cam.com/video/SkjAxA48SA8/w-d-xo.html
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
WordPress Tutorials - WPLearningLab Thanks! The video was great, I found it very useful.
Awesome 😎
I'm excited to try the SSH in Local by Flywheel to try one-click migrations from local to any host that allows SSH to be enabled.
Just what I was looking for! Thanks a lot for your time and effort. Keep it up :-)
Awesome, I'm glad I could help Peter. Thanks for watching!

Hi Rebecca,
It could be that Local by Flywheel is not updating your hosts file properly.
So development on my local computer with this piece of software will bring me more headaches than I already have. ;-)
Hi Bertus,
You could be right. The big benefit of working locally is if you have a laptop and you're not always connected to the internet. If you have a desktop and the internet is always there then this may be overkill.
Excellent video but speak a little slower and clearer please? The first thing I encountered was, enter Mim?? password..huh? What password?
Sir can you explain me something...? If possible please leave me a reply... 🙏
Hi Shehan,
I can try to explain something 😀
XAMPP is much faster , easier and lightweight on the system
Hi Gaurab,
It is, but Local by Flywheel is much easier for strictly WordPress development. I'm making a tutorials for XAMP and MAMP as well.
@@wplearninglab So what is better than the 3 if you have to choose?
You are going way to fast. No explanation of how to login in as admin, is that the best way? you don't leave the address long enough to read either before you press return.
When I click on "VIEW SITE" nothing happens( meaning no site opens up in a browser) You got any solution for that?
vietnamese please T.T
