One of the many things which makes your riding reviews so enjoyable, is the camera view that is always what the rider sees, devoid of the “clutter” of phone and/or camera mounts. It presents us with a true feeling of being on the bike 😉👍!
Agree. Don’t know why other vloggers have a camera backwards facing them as they ride while they talk? Pointless. We want to see the road ahead enjoy the ride along.
This is a stunning looking & sounding bike. Great to see clocks & no riding modes etc, just get on and ride, as it should be. Only thing to change is the mirrors, for Bar End ones....👍👍👍
I understand why you just can't wipe the smile off your face ... luckily you have ears to stop the smile from cutting your head in two ! you lucky girl ! this is not a bike - this is a work of art ! soooo beautiful .... those Ohlins front and back... perfect ! Greetings from Israel, God bless !
nice review, honest and straight forward,no nonsense, and love the camera angle from riding..please,dont ever change that :) . As for the knees not fitting in the tank, it seems to me that Norton got the footpeg position wrong by about 30 mm, if moved back that much, dont think anyone would have a problem with their knees fitting into the tank cut, and you are pretty average height . Maybe a pair of custom alloy mounting plates would be an option, or the fact that Norton could get it right from the off :P . Great review, just found this channel, please keep em comming . From a life long biker :)
It "clears up" once from 3.500 rpm´s up ( as @10:53 time) and sounds better .. @13:06 it sounds terrific at 4.000 rpm´s ... but I also consider it annoying .... I´ve got a T120 and it´s much nicer on the low rpm´s .. But man, this bike is beautiful !!!!! 😍😍😍 ... I would have one, no question.
Hi John, the 961 certainly doesn't sound like the old Commando. They sounded Beautiful ! Such a deep noise. I love them. Your a fortunate man having known the Commando. Cheers from New Zealand
@@stevelee5724 ... Steve, I grew up on twins! I had a 1961 Triumph T110 until I bought the Commando. At the same time, I rebuilt a T500 from a box of bits, which was a really smooth engine. I now have a RE Interceptor 650, which is fine for this old man 😉
Thanks for sharing your initial thoughts on the Commando. Be really interesting to see what you think on the next one after you've ridden it a bit more. Well done 🤓 stay safe and ride well
Tomboy Great riding and review as always! I think I'll keep my Triumph Thruxton R though. It has much more of everything. Ride SAFE and BE safe Lady! 👍👍
Hi 👋, Great Looking 👀 Bike, I remember them well, I past my bike test when I was 17, back in late 60s, I have had three Norton, And at the age of 17 and three months, as when I had my first brand-new one, Great review on the bike, And even you are riding my old stomping grounds, Near where I’ve lived for the best part of 25 years, I originally come from Cambridgeshire, not quite sure about the sound, as I believe it is about a lot of motorcycles nowadays, they do not sound the same, They have lost the throatiness how they should sound, I believe bikes are getting too quiet nowadays, And sounds saves lives, a few weeks ago I did go to a Indian dealership in Suffolk highly recommended, Krazy Horse, Where they have a great show of motorcycles, And highly recommended to visit their café on that premises, And very pleasant atmosphere, and you did not feel intimidated , very helpful and friendly, If I’ve got the spare money, I definitely would buy another Norton , or even an Indian for that matter, But I have been a loyal Harley Davidson rider since the 1994/5 , from an old dude, right safe, Look forward to seeing more of the English countryside,
My first (legal) road bike was a 1973 850 Commando. At 15.5 years old it was beyond awesome. Maybe after your three weeks with that beauty you could have one of your many bike shop friends find a well sorted 850 to ride_a_bit and tell us what you think? Lucky bloody you !! Have fun. Stay safe.
At last, a new Norton on my screen. A beautiful bike, I love it and hope it's successful, as i've heard it is expensive, compared to other "retro bikes", making it available to only a select few.
You're the only road tester I've seen to date who's lighter than I am, at ten stone, hang on, I'll use the converter gizmo, 63.5. Most bikes today seem to be set up too stiff. Had to have a lighter spring fitted to my SV thou by the good folks at Maxton in Cheshire. I'm either too cheap or too sensible to pay £500+ for a good aftermarket shock, especially now with 20 MPH speed limits in my home base in Wales.
Never seen one on the road yet. Looked at one at My local Royal Enfield dealer of all places! Nice but so expensive. I bet My knees would be further forward though 😂.Another good review of course, just like being there. Keep them coming!
Evening Tomboy! Dont know if it was your microphone but that Norton didnt quite have that growl as my old 1973 Norton? Still looks a nice bike but perhaps that front mudguard could be a tad longer in my opinion? See yer in the next one and ride safe girl 👍😊...
Commandos used to be lighter when compared to the competitors back in the 70‘s. I‘m baffled on how much heavier they‘ve become in the modern times whilst weighing roughly at least some 20Kg‘s more ⚖than my 2006 Kawasaki Z1000 that has 4 stainless steel end-pipes💨 No doubt a very attractive motorcycle and 🙏🏽 thanks for an honest presentation, Best wishes from Düsseldorf 😉
Great review thanks. Incidentally, if you loosen the bolts retaining the left switch block, you can rotate the block and reposition the indicator switch. Agree they are too low out of the factory.
When opening your garage to pick which toy to play with is a dilemma, things are good! Normally I know which one in the test fleet you really fancy most, but it's a tough decision atm. Wonder if the knee position thing would even be felt if riding in leather jeans? The chunky knee arnour in mine would maybe block all the awkward sensation you're feeling? Try it with your full suit on.
I rode a Norton Dominator once in the seventies. I've never been on one since. The vibration in general was awful as was the brakes, which were very early disc brakes and I would have preferred the drum brakes.
You ride that Norton like a "Harl,ey" rider, slow and sedate. It would have been nice if you rode with a little more aggression. I'll bet it sounds pretty good at full song. In spite of my negative comments, I like what you put out. Keep it up. My rides are a '67 Norton P11 and a '95 Triumph Daytona Super III backed up with an every day '88 Honda NX 650 that is remarkably good at everything you ask it to do, just not always exciting.
I've always preferred the sounds of the older '60's - '70's Norton's which had the 360 degree crankshafts. Don't the new Norton's have 270 degree cranks? This bike sometimes sounds like it has marbles in it.
Beautiful looking bike but I have to say am not so keen on the sound? Sounds rough to me am hoping it’s just a bad pick up from your camera? Great video tho!
I really enjoyed your review, early days with it I guess, quality bike but too much for me sadly,I’m keeping my Guzzi Racer meanwhile even though I am an old man.
Schönheit einer Frau, was für ein wunderschönes Lächeln und der Anfang des Videos ist genau richtig für ein Foto, auf dem Motorrad mit dir entdecke ich ein Motorrad mit geringem Hubraum.
I tried to order/import one of these 10 years ago. But Norton didn't even respond to my inquiries. Probably just as good, since they had some serious issues back then.
Since “everyone” in europe including UK therefore is spending their money on ebay, amazon, ali etc. In asian shops and company’s “all” the money is going there… So they have the money to buy everthing here… Simple…. Blame your (our) self and your friends and neighbours (not meant personally!) Buy local.. and the money stays in our own economy, with all the benefits
I had to watch this twice... very beautiful❤. I did notice something much more ugly than the Micky Mirrors. I hate how the Brake oil resovoirs are mounted. They look like they were forgotten in the planning and added at the last moment. They look cheap like this. Yes, bar-end mirrors would suit this bike much better. I too look forward to more Norton under your Bum !!
Fantastic sounding Bike, those who don’t like Mechanical sounding Bikes can always buy one of those sewing machine smooth, quiet and characterless Japanese bikes like a goldwing or whatever.
You mean one of those very reliable brands that’s well engineered, refined and been in continuous production since the 1970’s when original Norton went belly up…..ahh
@@SteveInskip I’ve had a few Guzzi’s and other air/oil cooled bikes but none sounded like that. Maybe in person it’s not so pronounced. If that noise came from a Honda you’d deffo think it was on its way out!

your video really captured the sound of the bike so well and I agree with you it’s glorious.
Beautiful bike. Looks like Norton is here to stay!
Poxy turn signals, 5 speed, 2 urine samples on the handle bars, come on Norton you've built a stunning retro and adorned it with this??
My first take: 5-speed? Only 74hp from a 961cc? It's a high priced misfit in the spectrum of available bike choices.
😂 I was thinking exactly the same - especially the brake fluid reservoir!
Delightful review …………you always come across really up beat , great positive energy
That engine sounds like a bag of old hammers
The bike sounds much better in real life. The sound on the video doesn't do it justice.
Just like old Triumph, BSA, Vincent, etc, pushrod engines.
Some people like the dumper truck sound.
When they changed the crank configuration from 360 to 270, they (maybe) got a smoother running engine, but it totally killed the sound quality.
I had a 750 Commando in 1972 and loved it, so seeing the 961 makes me all nostalgic!
It's a good pastiche of the original. Thanks De for the video 🤗🏍

Lovely looking bike but I found the brake fluid pot really distracting in the film. Probably the camera making it look bigger than it is.

They built it exactly like it used to be, didn’t ruin it at least. So its good
Is that an engine sound or exhaust sound? Sounds more like engine sound beats exhaust sound, which i dont like personally.
It is what I hear, so I believe a combination of both. A microphone is in my helmet.
The engine clattering is just to much you can not hear the exhaust note over it I'm afraid it would be to much after 10 minutes
Looks like a seventies museum piece....
Bar end mirrors would look good
Agree 💯
Красавец! Из последних обзоров мне только Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 больше понравился.😍👍👏
It's a shame they they are not bringing this bike back to Australia.
If they lowered their prices to below $15k these would sell well.

I can understand / hear her quite clear TBH… i do not understand your bold complaint..
Use that gearbox, you're loading that donk to much in the town environs.
I'll stick with Royal Enfield character without the think up a number and double it and hope some idiot falls for it pricing.

dont laugh but try puttting your toes on the pegs and your hands on the indicators not while your riding of course x
That engine sounds very clattery. How do they make it so unrefined in 2024? Maybe we’ve been spoilt by modern engines being so quiet.
Oh yea….my dog weighs 54kg. That’s crazy.
Air cooled and pushrods at a guess. There’s a lot going on in that engine.
