Retrobreeze at over 16k subscribers, i remember watching all your videos helping me install onion os on my miyoo mini, i think you were under 1k back then! Good jorb!
My hinge is much quieter than yours, no snap sound, no sandy feeling. Your screen is better than mine. Mine has a little light leak in the bottom right.
My screen is great and the hinge feels great. Zero light bleed. My only concern is that having multiple positions might make it less durable, but I base this on nothing. TBH, this is a perfect handheld for me. If the hinges prove to hold up for a while, I’ll probably buy a few more on an AliE sale.
Yeah, I think some of the problems might be fixed by the next batch, but I also believe it's better to wait until v2, or even v3. Maybe by v4 they'll even add C-to-C charging, as they did with the Miyoo Mini. At least if they manage to survive that far. Dreams wild dreams. At least my MM v2 still works well, I can wait.
By the way, PSP games have quite a bit of 3:2 and 4:3 aspect ratio cheats, so you can often have the game fill the full screen without any cutoff or stretching.
I'm glad you found things you really enjoyed about this handheld! For me, the hinge is absolutely inexcusable. This is a device built primarily for opening and closing that hinge, and that's a big selling point for it, I couldn't believe how bad it functioned and sounded in person. My wife said it reminded her of an old broken flip phone she had when she was younger haha. I did decide to return it.
I totally get and respect it. It is really bad. Like, really, really bad. Every time I open it, I remember how bad it is, but then I start playing and I forget again!
Retro Breeze always with a breeze review for us. Thanks for the video and the sincerity. People tends to be too hyped for some stuff as this one, I personally love Miyoo I have 2 MM+ (I had 3 A30 but it sucked hard and I got rid of them). Even if the Flip is more powerful, I prefer the ergonomics of my 35XX SP. If I need analog sticks I play with another retro handheld of my collection.
I love your review videos man. I think you are up there with Russ from retro game core. I just need you to do some more reviews please! Maybe the TrimUI brick? 😅
The hinge is completely fine. The snaps are obviously indents in the internal mechanism that allows it to hold the four positions (three open, and closed). I'm not sure why the author thinks that the noise is from flexing in the shell at the hinge.
I know that click you're talking about, and it's here too. The snapping I'm referring to is specifically not that when you close the device. You can see in the video that the hinge plastic flexes open and closed- no way that should happen!
How is the audio out of the headphone jack? It was absolutely terrible with the Miyoo Mini plus, way too quiet. Also can it charge via usbc to usbc and laptop power bricks? worrying about using the correct kind of charger was one of the biggest problems i had with the miyoo mini plus as well.
Will you be interested in using GammaOS on the Miyoo Flip? I feel like I'm going to wait for a Horizontal Dual Analog Stick Miyoo. Stacked Triggers Too.
might be able to drip some grease into the hinge to lubricate it and make it feel less awful. and ofc over time it'll probably wear down and sound less jank.
Every time someone says analog sticks are good for shmups, an unicorn dies :) Jokes aside, to play really well with precision, one needs quality digital input, which is present on the Flip: the d-pad. People enjoy playing with analog sticks because they resemble the arcade ones, but arcade sticks are digital, not analog. The function is completely different. Analog sticks have partial movement, which hinder precision and will make you die A LOT if you're playing seriously to clear a game with limited continues or trying to get a high score. Blazing Star could be easier if you played with the d-pad.
@RetroBreezeYT for me ots the screen and controls, that I will like the most...shame about the build quality of the hinge man. I am hoping over time it will hold up though, even though it's a little rough around the edges.
It'll most likely get there as future batches are released and with coupons. Miyoo always seems to have the early adopter charge with new hardware because people remember the Mini.
@@RetroBreezeYT I think that depends on how well it sells. The A30 dropped in price pretty hard largely because it was critically panned and didn't sell very well. The Miyoo Mini and Mini+ stayed full price for far longer- hell they straight up couldn't make enough Miyoo Minis, every batch was selling out in seconds.
this device's success hinges on that hinge...with all the delays and they couldn't even get that right...I might have to pass or at least wait for an iteration that addresses these issues. Glad I held off on getting this at launch
@@RetroBreezeYT if yours is just a one off then that's good news but still, the way that hinge cracks/snaps into the different angles just doesn't sound right (which from all the reviews I've watched seems to be the intended design of the hinge). I can deal with software issues (since custom OS should fix like every other miyoo device) which this seems to have a lot of right out the gate.
Half life the ride at the beginning takes you. Through the whole game levels. After that you get into it. You can if you want let it run then do the save state there.
I received my sp like 1 month before this thing dropped and was kind of choked...because I really wish I had just one analog stick. But at least I got the v2 sp with the upgraded buttons, never had an issue there But at the end of the day, I have more retro games than I can ever play on my sp, so I won't give in to the desire to get the latest and greatest. So easy to get caught up in that. The anbernic sp does everything I wanted it to do. If I was going to shell out for a device with analog sticks, I'd want it to be able to play gamecube games.
5:20 Vita caps on switch sticks really. Probably can slap some normal sticks. I would love someone to try a gulikit. My Miyoo a30 smoked my guilkit sticks. Wonder if the same would happen to this console. Guessing they would contact the screen if you tried shutting it.
I think I'll just stick to my DS Lite. Been growing sick of these handhelds recently, seemingly every one I tried has at least one glaring issue, be it bad QC or simply bad design.
I would buy this for tons and tons and tons of arcade games. Many of them use thumbstick. Vita and Joycon's sticks are garbage. It's the main reason I don't care for the Anbernic's xxsp. A real shame.
I have the white model and the yellow model. The white model is far superior in quality compared to the yellow. Far better plastic. The hinge on the white model does not click. It feels perfect. The yellow hinge actually came misaligned. Opening it completely and closing it completely over and over again realigned the hinge and now it works fine. Im just not a fan of the plastic on the yellow. I also have the black model on the way and have heard its made of the same plastic as the white model. This will be the one i end up using. The Flip will get MUCH better over time, just like the rest.of these devices. Dont sell it short.
Overall I am torn on this review. Something’s you’re on point while others I would disagree with. I really think the hinges are fine. Load… yes slightly elevated. Either you have an amazing mic or mine isn’t that loud. I personally think the hinge is better than RG35xx SP because the more I used it the worst it got. I think the SP has their hinge too loose in my opinion. Overtime and lots of use it is not the same.
I do think that the hinge is stiffer than the SP. That's interesting about it wearing down over time. I can't imagine the Flip hinge getting any better though. I've heard that other people don't have the snapping issue.
My hinge feels better than the one on my RG35XXSP. That model is odd, it flexes beyond its one position, but doesn’t stay in position. The Flip has multiple positions and they feel rock solid. Mine doesn’t make a loud noise, but I did see one other person on Reddit mention theirs was. The screen on my model is beautiful. Perfect, so perfect I’m shocked. I thought it would be a downgrade from the MM+ and it’s probably an upgrade. I put MinUI on mine and the black levels were amazing. If anyone out there can get a good one off the production line, they should be happy. Hopefully the hinge holds up.
That's really good to hear. I think I'll pick up another at some point and see if my hinge was just a duff one. Now that you mention it, you're absolutely right- I totally understated the screen. It is absolutely gorgeous!

@@biggie009 now that you say that mine was the same way. A bit clickety as I opened it for a few days then it settled down.
My yellow unit is also loud, as shown in my first 24-hour video.
I keep hearing that about the hinge. Maybe mine will break in!
I got the yellow version this week, I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
Congrats! I'm sure you'll love it!

There are definitely a bunch of QoL fixes that I can imagine. I'd like the charging port swapped to the back as well.
@RetroBreezeYT would definitely be a good option for a docking scenario.
By the way, PSP games have quite a bit of 3:2 and 4:3 aspect ratio cheats, so you can often have the game fill the full screen without any cutoff or stretching.

"Generic Plumber Platformer" makes me laugh.

Thanks for watching! Morio? Never heard of 'em!
@RetroBreezeYT yeah you know Super Mario 64

Yeah - I’ve had 4 Nintendo 3DS’s that all have this exact hinge mechanism/function. It feels perfectly fine to me.

I haven't tried the headphone jack yet, but using a correct USB-A to C cable is definitely required!
I would love for you to try out the white one. It feels so much better than the yellow and grey.
I'll try and pick one up!
We can always trust Shem for a more balanced assessment. Thanks.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you think so!
Gamma OS is actually going to be available on this thing. Which will make it a fantastic companion handheld for my Odin.
Can't wait to try it out!
Probably more retro gamers would prefer the miyoo flip now that gamma os core is available.
I gotta try it!
I present to you one of the masters of the video essay style review... So very well done!
Thanks Adin! That means a lot!
I think your hinge is broken, mine doesn't do that
I've heard that a few times! I'll grab another one some time and compare.
Will you be interested in using GammaOS on the Miyoo Flip? I feel like I'm going to wait for a Horizontal Dual Analog Stick Miyoo. Stacked Triggers Too.
Yes! Can't wait to try it out! However, I do also like the stock OS to be honest.
Thanks, great review. SNES-themed consoles are always pretty... it was partly what made me decide getting a RP4 Pro.
I loved my "cold grey" Odin and I love the grey flip as well. This is actually the only colour of the Flip that I like!
might be able to drip some grease into the hinge to lubricate it and make it feel less awful. and ofc over time it'll probably wear down and sound less jank.
Not having the charge port also in the back is going to be annoying for "consolizing" it.
