It certainly does, mate. I remember my dad recording this episode for me on the old VHS - those were the days.

When the cup still mattered before the money took over

Ironically that's probably what people said about the cup in the 1880s.

That Coventry kit was truly top draw.👌 They didn't have the design in their change kit sadly, but Aston Villa had the fine pinstripes on both their claret and on their white change shirts. The Southampton home strip was almost identical to the Denmark shirts from three years previously (Denmark had both the red and the white).
Damn shame by the 1990s, kit suppliers designers had started over-using the hallucinogenics (Tottenham's birdshit, Arsenal's Bruised Banana, United's snowflakes and Brightons Bacon Rashers just 4 examples, nevermind a terrible grey and orange thing Chelsea had).
It never got better afterwards unfortunately, plus the last few years, kits are changed year by year, with clubs rinsing their fans with merchandise. Might as well use two flintlocks and a mask...

Great memories, I was at Tranmere that day (v Reading, not featured on that nights MOTD) and I’d I’m not mistaken the Sutton game kicked off early, cause I remember being absolutely gobsmacked when the score was read out
Brilliant upload thanks for sharing really appreciate these full episodes of MOTD (and The Big Match) amazed that the BBC have never got onto how popular these old episodes are, at least ITV do the Big Match Revisited a Saturday morning treat

96 fans dreaming that there club could go one better than the previous season. As mentioned above when the FA cup was the best competition going before money became all that mattered.

Was there ever a match in the 80s where Bryan Robson didn't go off on a stretcher?

First time ive seen jimmy hill's chin in the raw, naked as a baby! There's a thought, Jimmy, a few hours old or young, & that chin must have been noticeable. Forceps must have been needed to wedge that chin out. Ive never seen another chin like his. Jimmy, much missed mate, great & unbiased, even with Fulham & Coventry. Ah, ive had a number of chins just come to mind: his era too, Tommy Trinder, Bruce Forsyth of course, Tommy Cooper, Jimmy still wins!

Is George Best the old Ryan Giggs? But Giggsy-Wiggsy. Precocious talent, isn't he? Mmm? Ooh, got it all, you know? Speed, acceleration, sweet left foot, all the tricks - the dummy, the drop of the shoulder, the shimmy, nutmeg, jiggery-pokery, hocus pocus, abracadabra, I wanna reach out and grab ya. Steve Miller Band? Spin Doctors? Ooh, very similar.

I always hated John Motson commentating. He always acted shocked and in disbelief when the team not fancied scored a goal.
