And it is impossible for everyone (100%) to be rich, because of how inflation works. If everyone has 1 million dollars then prices are going to skyrocket, making daily things cost hundreds of dollars. Therefore the new "1%" becomes 10 billion, becoming an everlasting cycle. That's why generating more money doesn't work against poverty.

Statistically speaking, the chances of becoming apart of the 1% is slim to none, but it’s possible as long as you have the connections, education, and idea to become the 1%. Most people in that class are people who are extremely motivated and ambitious to change society on a global level. I would be fine being a basic millionaire since there are more people in that latter and all you really need to be in that class is a nice home, a couple cars, liquid assets, and a retirement plan. Stocks are a plus too.

There are so many rags to riches stories though. It doesn’t happen very often but it definitely does, it CAN be done. Some billionaires, plan on donating most of their money to charities when they die. Like Bill Gates is only giving $10,000,000 to each of his kids and donating the rest to a variety of charities and stuff, that’ll put a lot of money back into the economy.

There is a great article in November issue of Scientific American, which deals with mathematical inevitability of 1 person ultimately owning the everything in purely free market ruled world. Apparently, if you just assume that rich people got rich purely by luck, that model describes observed reality with 1 per cent precission. We usually look at it as if merit or skills have something to do with, but ultimately, for every billionaire there are tens of thousands of equally clever and competent people who just did not get lucky. From a bird's eye view, you can just think of it as bunch of people throwing dice, and richer you get, the more it becomes unlikely that you'd ever completely lose.

I made my money the old fashioned way, interestingly that’s generally how wealth has been passed down through generations slowly accumulating into larger and larger sums through real estate, liquid assets, investments, businesses, etc.
Sadly many of the current generations that have wealth to pass down are bucking that historical trend and aren’t doing so, instead they are far more likely to donate the majority of their estates to charities or other institutions instead of their direct family members which is wreaking havoc on the younger generations.

  • @Underscore23

This is interesting, raising a few more questions. Please correct me if I am wrong, I feel the analysis is a bit misleading in a way:
    1. All of the guys who went ahead and are the top 3 men, have done so through selling internationally. Indeed making the country as a whole richer, not by taking from the citizens but by clients in the rest of the world. Which makes percentages as a figure, not really that reliable. Considering if the GDP rises due to more international sales, that doesn't really reduce the 'share' in the country but just made the country's share as a whole larger. Not sure if that makes sense.
    2. The rising debt is due to college and it is really questionable WHY college costs have skyrocketed so much! Some say it's because of subsidization, others say it's because of easy loans. Others say it's because of both. Which is of course, a negative impact.
    3. Now this is another one that goes back to point 1, when countries (Such as Venezuela) enacted socialistic policies based on.. well statistics such as these. All the people with money came to the US, and all moved their money here. Inherently that would create more disparity, but with really no negative effects in the US, as it is MORE money invested within the US. I can tell you, living in Miami and having worked in the high-end market. Many million dollar clients are all Venezuelan or from other countries that just bring their money here since the US is not going to steal their money as their own home countries.
    4. I wonder how the concepts changed, long ago it feels like 'working for someone' was somewhat shameful when now it has become the norm. You will never make big money working for someone and if any 1%'s I've met are any evidence is that they are mostly self-made. Nobody will pay you that much dough as an employee. If they pay you anything above 200k, you will be working like a dog.
Thus this brings questions, is the disparity because of much higher US overall wealth, or is it because a larger share of the GDP within the US is being taken. I believe that it's because of a larger GDP of the US, independent of how much is earned.
    Just my 2c

I agree but I think it is a matter of mindset over wages and jobs. People have to be more mindful of spending and how they get their education. There are also those that only want to work in fields that they like or is easy instead of working and learning things that will make them money. The average income in America right now is around 33,000 a year...web developers starting out can make between $35k and 65k without going into debt, but just because it is difficult to learn code people will stay in the 30k or less job. This is even true for plumbers or carpenters, you can make a lot of money but it is hard and not glamorous...so people push past them...Now I am not saying that the US is fair when it comes to wages...heck when they raise minimum wage companies pass it onto the consumer or layoff workers...what I am saying is that if people change their mindset and focus first on what will feed you and your family I think that more people will pull themselves out of poverty and the lower middle class
