"John Doe has the upper hand!" is the line that set off everyone's WTF alarm.

I love how Emma's reaction is almost exactly the same as Mills' reaction.
Credit to the movie to make the watcher feel Mills' anxiety and curiosity.
The juxtaposition of envy and wrath at the conclusion of the movie is both clever and truly horrifying. I saw this movie in theaters when I was 15 and it was a crazy experience.
They made a prosthetic sculpture of Gwyneth's head for the box finale, but decided not to use it The head was later used for Gwyneth's dead body in 'Contagion'.
2:49 That opening credit was considered to be one of the best movie opening, and the song is Closer (Precursor) by Nine Inch Nails.

Amazing one scene performance from Leland Orser, the 'lust survivor'. His fear and trauma sells the horror of the murder and makes it one of the most disturbing even though we never see more than flashes.
You should see him in the very odd, very dark comedy - Very Bad Things.
That movie was a lot of fun.
He does the same type of unstable character in Alien 4

One of the most impressing story telling on screen, I remember sitting in the theatre when it came out. The last scene pressed me in my chair. After the film ended, i sit there and thought about it so long. Can i say i loved your reaction to it with this sad final? 😳

The director didn’t tell the actor who played the cop standing over the sloth victim that he was still alive so when he gasped that was the actors genuine reaction.

Definitely watch, Cape Fear (1991)
This movie is one of my favorites of all time. In my top 5 for sure. I went to the theater to watch it like 5 times, I went alone 3 times and took my dad once and another friend another time.
I like how dark and twisted the whole story is, it rained during the whole movie except for the last day, the sun was out only during the day John Doe surrendered and completed his plan.

This is one of David Fincher's most beautiful and disturbing films. I saw it in the theaters when it came out and was shook. No one could see what was coming. No one knew what was in the box.
I had totally forgot that they had a crude drawing of Heisenberg in this movie! So hilarious!!!

Beautiful reaction Emma, felt bad for you in that one scene. This is a terrific movie that stays with you long after its finished, the cinematography and depressive atmosphere are all first rate and for me Kevin Spacey steals the show even though he was only on screen for a short time. What's in the BOoo_x ??!!!
I wouldn't feel to sorry for Joh Doe's 'sloth' victim. Besides being a horrible person he was also a child abuser. That's why the doctor said, 'and he still has Hell to forward to'.

Great movie, a dark movie but it does have hope as his partner and his wife made Morgan stick around instead of retiring. Fun reaction a truly shocking ending
John Doe was right about the state of humanity. Wrong about how he reacted to it though.

Morgan Freeman starred as Alex Cross in 2 or 3 of the James Patterson adaptations. Along Came A Spider and Kiss the Girls are the two movies I remember the names of.

This movie is excellent. Next check out the movie 8MM with Nicolas Cage.
Funny you recommend 8MM, it was from the same writer of Seven and he considered it like a spiritual sequel in the veins of the same concept and style, but the director of 8MM was less bold than Fincher and made a more generic film with a happy ending
I really like your screen set up where you allow the movie half of the screen instead of a little postage stamp size in the corner. Throw in the fact that you don't feel the need to comment on every single line of dialogue, your reactions are some of the best.

I enjoy this movie very much (maybe once every 3-4 years) and it always gets in my head every time. I sure we all like this one for the right reasons.
Alternative ending time...Morgan Freemans character was suppose to shoot John Do and thus,dosent complete his mission.

Upvoted for noticing the flaw that once they knew the photographer was the killer, they should have done something to protect themselves and those close to them. Someone as smart as Somerset would/should have thought of that.
Nothing about the case would have indicated the killer would do something on a whim though - and he’d also just spared Mills
Try and watch The Thing 1982 and The Thing 2011. Also Gone Girl 2014.
Yeah, this movie is so good that I _do_ recommend it, but it's one of the few that I'll also offer warning with: that its mood is quite dark and it can be disturbing.

There was a Japanese movie that a saw on Hulu a while back called The World of Kanako. I always describe it as what you'd get if Taken had been written by the same person as Seven.
I saw this at the movies with my mom when she couldn't find a babysitter.. I was 9. This is when I learned what the word "decapitation" meant or that that thing could happen, smh..

Mills would not go to prison. The circumstances would make him be able to claim temporary insanity.
Mills definitely went to prison. Grieving or wanting revenge isn't cause for an insanity plea. Especially killing an unarmed man in cold blood.

This is an amazingly brilliant, thoughtful and completely disturbing film. You only need to see it once, it leaves the sense of a led blanket on your chest and soul. "What's in the BOX???

I watched this in a dollar movie theater, and when the dead guy popped up. I freaked out. I wasn't ready for it. I spent the rest of the movie laughing at myself for screaming like a girl. I didn't know my voice could even do that!!! That was over, what?, 20 years ago and my wife still makes jokes about it. Fun reaction. I did it once more watching Signs at the theater. Jump scares. Most movies you can predict when one is coming but there are a few that get me from time to time. lol Fun reaction. Thanks and take care.

May I please request Life is Beautiful.? Italian film about WWII
Fantastic movie. But then, I tend to prefer movies about what humans do to other humans. It's just more scary than imaginary things like ghosts or mythical creatures. Then there's the capper of the bad guy winning at the end. It's just a brilliant story, masterfully brought to the screen.
I think there's movies called Haywire and Tarzan The Fearless wasn't there Emma?

Wrath wasn't completed because Mills lived, six deadly sins died and 2 innocent. He failed.
It was completed though. John Doe's motivation is to turn the sin against the sinner. Killing them is just a bonus. How do you turn Wrath against a wrathful person? By making his anger useless. Mills destroyed his life and his career to shoot a man who wanted to die anyways and it still isn't going to bring back his dead wife so it was all for nothing.
What country are you from originally?
I think the alternate ending would have been better.

This was the very first R Rated movie I saw in theaters with my older brother and sister! I was 5 years old when this came out and it scared the hell out of me!
The scene where they find Sloth in the bed, as well as the shocking twist ending were on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments.

Emma may appreciate the original Dutch "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" series of 3 movies.
It wasn’t Dutch but Swedish dude, and the original Swedish version was shot as a 6 part tv show. Fincher’s version is better executed, it has intrigue, suspense, better build up and pace
Fincher also made “THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON 🐉 TATTOO.”
