  • 'Nasi lemak' wrapped in banana leaf is a popular breakfast choice among locals in Malaysia.
    www.nyonyacook...
    This is actually the same 'nasi lemak' recipe which I have uploaded some time back. The only difference is that it is now served wrapped attractively instead. This is sold economically at most of the muslims and 'mamaks' restaurants without the frills, just with the basic accompaniments like sambal, fried anchovies, cucumber, peanuts and a slice of hard boiled egg.
    Now, you can have the thrill of learning how to prepare it and feel the satisfaction of having delicious home cooked, beautifully wrapped 'nasi lemak', just like those sold in restaurants, in the comfort of your own home. The banana leaf will enhance the fragrance of the 'nasi lemak'. Of course, there is no stopping you from putting more accompaniments into each pack. Enjoy together with a cup of 'teh tarik' or the favourite beverage of your choice! Hmmmm..simply blissful!

    That's perfectly done Grace!
    some folks tend to flip the leaf to make it look nicer(you have the glossy side peeking of the wrap), but end up consuming the wax from the leaf.
    Just to add, the rice should leave a burnt mark on leaf afterwards, it shows the essentials from the leaf are in the rice.

      Back when I was a kid, nasi lemak sold by Malay makcik at the market stalls were the best. Simple...rice, egg and sambal or rice, ikan and sambal that's it. And if some of you can remember the sambal was thinner not a thick blob. Whenever I look at nasi lemak these days with all the extras, I lose my appetite.

    Paling sedap. Nasi lemak is now almost a full meal in Singapore with a bit of fried chicken or asam fish.

    Hiyya, I enjoy watching your videos on Malaysian dishes :) I think you present it very simple and neat for others to follow. Would love to see you invite some of your German friends over to help you out making some of our Malaysian dishes and to see how they would react eating them ;)

    hey sorry but im just curious :) can someone tell me why nasi lemak is normally wrapped in a pyramid?? is it just to help keep the nasi lemak packed properly or?

    • @hijupbeathijupbeat9330
      @hijupbeathijupbeat9330 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Willow Pixis nothing in particular. It’s just traditionally served like that. Nowadays nasik lemak is wrapped in glossy paper on the inside or any other takeout container. But most ppl still prefer this way since the rice smells more fragrant.

      @@Gokulam5 it's cheap over there. I like the very old traditional simple style with ikan bilis, egg, cucumber. Peanut am not keen

      @@Gokulam5 ikan bilis must be cheap there and egg too. Here daily egg cost varies and goes up and down.

      @TWEETYDOTPIE me too, I love traditional nasi lemak bungkus. Not too fond of peanuts in my nasi lemak.
      Eggs cost about 40 to 70 sen, according to the quality.
      Ikan bilis price has spiralled, but its not used liberally in the sambal, so still affordable.

    • @TWEETYDOTPIE
      @TWEETYDOTPIE 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Gokulam5 Yes ...normally any fish whether dried or not costs a lot, but as you said its still low and affordable...cucumber goes well with the fish....Actually the peanuts should not be added to the dish as it does not compliment it...Just the coconut rice and ikan wud do...cucumber can be made as an option...so does the egg..
      cucumber also goes well with peanut chutney. My mom used to make this many years back...
