- We’ve spoken before about the greatest feeling in videogames: owning a jerk who was mean to you at the start of the game, back when you were but a scrub. Lucky for us there are plentiful jerks who roasted us, beat us up, or cut bits off us at the beginning of a game, only to change their tune when we came back later fully powered up. For your enjoyment, here are seven videogame jerks who maybe should have thought twice before giving us such a hard time in the prologue. Enjoy, and subscribe for a video like this every Thursday!

Dreth doesn't just have unique lines for all the races, he has slightly unique lines for your chosen gender as well which means that if you are a lady dunmer he throws some sexism on top of that racism.
I seem to recall him threatening to get the guards to let him have his way with you, because of course he does.
Would insulting another species be racist, or speciesist?

Ah, Valen Dreth... One of exactly two reasons joining the Dark Brotherhood is worth it. The other, of course, is Shadowmere. Whose an adorable Daedric equine? You are!
I lost a game of "Dude, where's my horse?" in Skyrim. I'm pretty sure it was somewhere in the canyons around Markarth, but Shadowmere will have to take care of himself for a bit...

There was a glitch in my game where I preeminently killed shadow mare in Skyrim he fell off a cliff running to me and never respawned and I tried to reload the save but my previous save was too far back, I warned all my friends to stay away from cliffs

Corypheus from dragon age: inquisition! He throws a dragon at you, calls you a loser, and you fall down a mineshaft to narrowly get away. Then at the end of the game, you spent so much time fighting bears in the Hinterlands that his boss fight takes like 3 seconds
@Drizzt Do'Urden good question! i always play on story difficulty because im bad at video games but word is, in my fandom circles anyway, that its usually an easy fight from any angle.
@@TheTwilighthawke that and Dragon Age Inquisition is a pretty hard game in general. I can’t get past the hinterlands on anything other than easy difficulty. Let alone get all the way to a final boss fight!
@Drizzt Do'Urden if you're easy/normal difficulty his boss fight doesn't take that long unless you're either underleveled or don't have any archers/mages to attack him when he does this thing where you can't get to him.
@Drizzt Do'Urden The final fight with him, in my opinion is not hard (I've done it on both Normal and Hard difficulty) I think the Red Lyrium Dragon is the worst part of it. imo it's better to have Vivienne, Solas and Cassandra in your lineup when you go against them.

Did you know: You can actually interrupt Valen Dreth's taunting at the beginning of Oblivion with a well-placed fireball spell. Yes, it can actually go under the cell door, and hit his foot, setting him ablaze right there and then.
Do you even have the fireball spell at the beginning of the game?

I love how Valen Dreth says “Oh you didn’t know? No one leaves here alive” than later says “I’ll be out of here in a couple of weeks” although to be fair, he was technically right with the first statement

Body took about 2 weeks to decompose.
I went a step farther in getting back at Benny. When I saw him tied up in the Caesars Legion camp, exactly the way my character was in the opening scene, I knew I had to execute him with his own gun to bring things full circle, even though it meant killing the entire legion camp including Caesar himself because they all went aggro on me afterward. Most satisfying cold blooded murder in fallout history.
I don't see a downside to that. My normal playthrough in FO:NV is to march into the Caesar's Legion camp, take care of the bunker, then kill the entire Legion starting with Caesar. I wouldn't mind if Benny was first. Then again, I usually convince Swank that Benny betrayed them and kill Benny immediately so I've never actually seen him at the camp...

I think it would be better to kill everyone in the fort and then just leave him tied up there to die of dehydration

Even if you don't do it yourself, convincing Anderson to go and punch Udina in the face towards the end of ME1 is extremly satisfying every single time.
I mean we do get to put a bullet in him later in the series
@@techlorknight338 true. but I find a good old fashioned knuckle sandwich more gratifying. perhaps I'm just a sofite that way. plus, I don't tend to replay ME3 as much.
I still would argue that he isn't that big of a jerk in ME1 outside of grounding the Normandy

Which brings up the notable absence of Shepherd and the Collectors from Mass Effect 2.
"Bethesda in their infinite wisdom-" Obsidian made New Vegas, it was their decision to have charlies.
Bethesda owned Obsidian at the time, but let them have full creative control.

Zenimax never owned Obsidian. They contracted them out to make New Vegas, and unlike BioWare and Lucasarts who repressed and rushed Obsidian, Zenimax welcomed their input. Now that Microsoft owns them all, we might get another Obsidian made Fallout.
I was hoping with Obsidian would come the final Kotor which they were making until like usual, BioWare stopped them from outshining their trash…. Again. Now the remake is in the hands of Aspyr, which I actually got behind, but instead of contracting with Microsoft, they contracted with Sony, who’s an Alphabet supporter game maker, so the remake Aspyr was gonna make has already become a horrid retelling of a once grand series, kinda like Swtor, but worse.

@@erikurizita6702 BioWare had nothing to do with Obsidian being rushed on KOTOR II, in fact they had moved on to Mass Effect at the time. What a weird thing to believe, it wasn’t like it was BioWare’s property anyways, it was Lucasarts lmao

One of my favorite games in Oblivion is determining who hired all the Dark Brotherhood quests.
Usually whomever you can't kill if you want the bonus.

@@Warlady21 it's mostly speculation, but if you pay attention to the NPC chats during quests:
The rich old guy in Bruma verbally abuses his man servant (who you can't kill if you want the bonus)
The pirate crew (whom you can't kill) hate the captain you're hired to kill but love their first mate.
I think the mercenary captain is a suicide (haven't played in a while).
At least one, if not all of, the guards hate Valen.
The real mystery is murder manor; several of them were definitely involved in some sort of incident.

Getting rid of everyone that knew the dark brotherhood was behind the rest of them.

I couldnt think why there would be a bunch of randos needing murdered and i linked it to the trope that you alway get rid of the middle man when hiring assassins.
Ah yes the old time tradition of being destroyed at the beginning of the game only to become an unbeatable god that spartan kicks their enemies to death... Truly a tale as old as time.
The best one was Runt in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Literally bats you around like a cat with a ball of yarn because you were tying to bury your dead parents, and happened to have a shiny new sword your dad made at your hip. You then spend weeks recuperating, training and tracking down his gang as a medieval detective, and bring a whole army to bust up his camp, duel him in a burning church and bash his face in.

Can’t cosign this hard enough. Absolute masterpiece of a game, and I REALLY want a continuation of Henry’s story.
Ahh so that's what happens, couldn't get into that game at all once I realised I wasn't some Knight off the bat lol
Also in the Bioware line: the Collector Ship at the start of Mass Effect 2. Wrecks the Normandy and literally kills you in the first five minutes. Several hours, new friendships and intense romances later (also a few costly upgrades) and you absolutely tear them to bits.
I'd also put in a word for being able to show everyone in the first Mass Effect. Saren Arterius goes rogue on the Citadel Council who refuse to believe anything Commander Shepard says, he gets to fly around on the back of Sovreign, a terrifying sentient spaceship called a Reaper who like murdering the entire galaxy every 50,000 years, AND he has one of your crewmate's mothers on-side. Also, the second time you and Saren meet, one of your squadmates dies setting off a nuclear bomb.
Thankfully, right at the end, you get to end Saren (either by shooting at him or convincing him to kill himself), at which point Sovreign uploads itself into whatever's left of Saren's corpse. Upon defeating Saren/Sovreign, the massive spaceship holding its own against a united front of every council race, suddenly stops moving, at which point everybody blows it to bits.
Your reward for this is "you were right all along" and, regardless of whether or not you chose to save the Citadel Council even after they refused to believe you despite the overwhelming evidence or let the obstinate bastards die, humans get a seat on the Council
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT then two years later, nobody believes in the Reapers anymore and the whole frustrating cycle begins anew.
Killing Dreth was the best moment in all of Oblivion
I loved it until Bethesda patched out the part where you can have him follow you to the end of the Sewers then killing him when he thinks he is finally free...
All of the Dark Brotherhood quests in Oblivion are the best. Just A+ gameplay and storyline

Charles Lee in Assassin's Creed 3. He pins young Connor to a tree and burns down his village, killing his mother, only for Connor to spend the majority of his life training and hunting him down
Except doesn't it turn out it was actually Washington's men who burned down Connor's village? I seem to recall Haytham trying to use that reveal to change Connor's allegiance, but it's been years.

Yeah... Benny shoots a woman in the head and she spend 20 hours hunting him down because she wants a piece of that... I buy flowers and can't get a text back.

@@louderthanthedj It would be funny as hell if you had to fight a boss that for a gameplay feature got all their health back every time they removed a piece of clothing. Gloves, hats, coats, jackets, shoes, you thought it was a really big tough boss at first only to realize they were wearing an ungodly amount of clothes.
Hmm, there's a good game or two with such a mechanic... I unfortunately forgot those games' names.

"Could I _be_ any more dead?!" gave me Oxventure Village Chandler flashbacks and I approve.
When playing the dark brotherhood quests you sometimes have the option to talk to your victim before killing. I always chose the "say nothing" one. Except for him.
The captain actually realizes who you are and basically says just kill him.
My favorite of these kind of moments will always be beating Seifer from FFVIII, not just because beating him is satisfying but because of how things go down if you have Odin are your team prior to the fight.
I don't know guys, Genichiro technically still whooped my ass thoroughly after i came back fully powered up and experienced, lmao
To top it off, he escaped with the powers of rejuvenating waters at the end. So, i don't consider it satisfying at all!

He’s def the first major skill hurtle you must learn to properly progress through the game. He took me about 30-40 attempts before the mechanics really “clicked”
I found defeating the scourge beast unarmed in Bloodborne less stressful that trying to beat Genichiro the first time. It's like Miyazaki saw all the youtube videos and memes of players cheesing his bosses and made Sekiro just to say "yeah that's not going to fly anymore".

I can't remember if it was brought up on any of the previous videos but Grigori the giant dragon from Dragon's Dogma starts the game by ripping your heart out of your chest, then you spend all the game trying to get it back.
And eating it while youre still conscious and can see it.

One I always remember is Martinez from GTA: Vice City Stories. He's an abusive but two-bit crook who starts off the game forcing you into a life of crime. You eventually become much more powerful than him, so he becomes irrelevant, but you never get to confront him... until the end, when he pops back up as the final boss, and you get to use whatever overkill weapons you want on the guy.
IDK I'm way more mad at Kellogg from Fallout 4. I spent two hours modeling myself and my wife thinking we were about to have a grand adventure and that SOB just shot her in the intro? Hunting him down and ending him was the best moment in the series to me.
Would have been cool for the game to feature a duo protagonist.

Nah I didn't bother on secondary playthroughs, but my first time I had my actual wife sit there and model for me so I could get her just right and she was watching me play when Nora got shot. It was kinda awkward 😂

Heheh “it’s all over over pally, you just made your last delivery, Truth is, game is rigged from the start.” One of the best lines before the kill in any video game.
Pity Benny is also a pawn in the very same game, whether he likes it or not.

Another jerk from Sekiro that gets some comeuppance is the great serpent, and the way it dies is probably the most brutal moment in the game

Grigori, the Dragon from Dragons Dogma.
He literally steals your heart, making you almost immortal, to motivate you to pursue him!
But revenge is a bad thing in that game isn't it?? The dragon wants to be killed out of revenge

I always loved getting to beat Razor from Need For Speed: Most Wanted. He had to cheat and steal your car to beat everyone else, his strength in his profile is listed as 'Everything', and he was just a total try hard. Seeing him arrested is one of my top video game moments
The 00's era of Need For Speed games loved having you start with a powerful car and then lose it shortly afterwards, but Razor was the only villian to actually be memorable about it, being an absolute jerk, instead of just having a name and no other distinguishing features. (Anyone remember Caleb or Darius?)
In Need For Speed Undercover, Chase Linh does betray the player and frame them for murder, but since the main outcome of this is a car chase, it doesn't make you want to hunt her and take her down.
Which makes it sound like being smug is a bigger crime than murder.
Every time I killed Benny I always quote back to him the game was riged from the start

Destroying Vile was so satisfying when I was a kid. Definitely my favorite game series, too!
i found it funny to kill benny by intimating his guards and stealthy killing him in one punch on the casino floor.
My personal favorite is Helis from Horizon:zero dawn. Man comes dang close to ending the game early, then comes back with an army and what amounts to a gatling shotgun crossbow.
How exactly does one survive getting their brain chainsawed in half?
The mad max game is so underrated! Loved every bit of it!
i think it's worth mentioning that if you defeat Vile without getting the Weapon Upgrade Capsule, Zero will instead tell you to take HIS arm-cannon to give you an edge over Sigma, the main villain.
The level music in MMX is my favorite of the franchise, with the addition of the Zero-fight music from X2. He gets better

In Yakuza 0 Mr Shakedown beats Kiryu and takes his money, later on and more Dragon of Dojima than before Mr Shakedown will become the most efficient way of earning money since now you can kick his ass for an insane amount of 80's japanese money
I know you can technically beat him immediately at the start but there's something so very satisfying about taking down Gary Oak ( or whatever childish name you give him ) at the end of the first series of pokemon games. He just won to be the champ and we immediately show up and rip it away from him.
It's even nicer than beating his douchy wait for you type advantage pick haha.
I played a female Dunmer and Dreth hit on me in a creepy way.

Bethesda was on point back then. They even had voice acting for alternate races added by mods. Dreth be like, "What... are you? I've never seen anything like you before. Quite the creature they've captured in their cage. Well, guess what, freak! You're going to die!"
Two of the jerks in this list have cut off the player's arm. Funny thing, that

You would think villains would quit with the whole arm slicing thing, as it does seem to just come back and bite em good later.
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider has the Outsider come along and take your arm after the first mission. Though he is at least polite enough to give you the upgrade immediately. The games title tells you one way this ends.

Tales of Berseria sets it up nicely by having your bro-in-law Artorius I) sacrifice your little brother, ii) cuts off your arm, iii) unintentionally transforms you into a human-hybrid daemon with a soul-eating arm, iv) Imprisons you for three years making you feed on daemons. Like, couldn't he have just mercy killed you?
That's the logic at the start at least, but the late game does at least justify why he keeps Velvet alive

@@deathbykonami5487 to serve as a "mouth" for Innominat to feed the entity Malevolence, even that aside, Velvet played no part in what happened in Zesteria, if anything the events of Berseria throw everything the church preaches in that game into question, well more than Zesteria did already when it gives you Heldalf's backstory
If you do a commenter edition, you should mention Denys Geneolgia from Bravely Second! You literally travel back in time from the end of the game back to the start in order to kick his ass before his evil plan gets to happen.
Most definitely! Especially since going back and killing him actually prevents most of the horrible stuff that happens! Even one of his own minions got to have better life after we managed to defeat him.
The fact that andy had to explain the chandler aged me 30 years ngl
A cool thing about jet stream Sam is that he was fully human as in the Japanese game all the robots bled white blood but jet stream Sam bled red human blood
That’s what I found cool too, I did notice (at least the english version of the game) they have raiden bleed red blood too but that’s inconsistent with raiden in Mgs4 where he bleeds white blood
He is not fully human..... his right arm is a mechanical arm

I never realized until watching this video that the height for your point of view changes depending on your race in Oblivion.
There's a lot about Bethesda I don't like, but their attention to details like this always impresses me.
Skyrim does the same thing. In both games, Altmer characters are tallest and Bosmer are shortest.
Sarevok in Baldur's Gate. The guy murdered my dad and framed me for the murder of HIS dad (whom he also murdered, at least if you play it the way I play it). Smashing him to a bloody pulp in the final boss fight is extremely satisfying.
I always actually kill Rieltar, if I'm going to get thrown in prison for it, I might as well get the loot and xp. Besides, it was his evil plan, anyway. Sarevok just borrowed it to make it less profitable and more murdery.
And how did you feel in the sequel when he... you know?
@@michaelandreipalon359 I never let him join the party if that's what you're asking, although I always have a full group by that point, anyway. One of these days when I revisit the series, I'll kill him again in ToB for chuckles just to make it 3 times.
After some thought, Irenicus from BG 2 fits the video's topic, too. Capture me in narration will you... well, prepare to be double-killed for it in the finale.

Same here! I didn't play it for years because I was disappointed to find out Max loses his Interceptor at the start. Had I known you can build a car that essentially looks the same, I would have tried it sooner.
persona 5 should definitely be on this list!! at the beginning of the game joker saves a woman from being assaulted by politician shido, and in return shido frames joker for assault and gets that put on joker's record, which forces joker to switch schools and be told that he has one last chance to prove himself before he's done for for good despite the fact that he didn't do anything wrong. this reputation also follows joker around everywhere. at the end, joker totally shows shido who's boss!
Not to mention the bonus phase added in Royal where you finish him off in a 1v1 cagematch, while the best battle theme in the game is playing in the background!!!
Cesare Borgia from Assassin's Creed Brotherhood at the start of the game he attacks Monteriggioni, kills uncle Mario and steals the Apple of Eden. Ezio in retaliation tracks down and kills him near the end of the game.
The Devil may Cry games as a series encapsulate this so well. Like, three of the games are just this but with your brother in one way or another.

The Namir fight is a twofer, the woman with the remote had earlier tricked you and said “men never fail to underestimate women” but if you don’t upgrade the biochip, when she tries to shut off your bionics you just laugh and say “women never fail to underestimate men.”
That makes it even more epic and awesome!
I can say that I actually like Benny, and after spending the night with him, I never killed him. This was actually the first time I've ever seen the cut scenes where you murder him.
I like Benny too, and his fate for my play throughs depend on the character I'm playing as. 😄
The Jaron Namir one is even more satisfying because there was a glitch where you could beat him in one punch if you got him right as he climbed over a wall 🤣

you can defeat genishiro (the guy from sekiro) at the start of the game but you get a cutscen showing him bring in help to beat you and then cuts your arm off
Tartuccio from Pathfinder Kingmaker is an asshole to you at the start… and then you get to kill him as many as three times.
The second half of the Genichiro fight was the easier part for me because I couldn't get hit by the lightning for the life of me. I tried so hard to lightning counter and everything just missed. And he tried so often.
Benny's bedroom talk reminds me of those episodes of Friends, and Monica is a better actress than we gave her credit for when she said Chandler was amazing in the sack.
Dragon Age: Origins - Human Noble character background. Arl Rendon Howe deserved everything he got.
Dwarf Noble is a close second, although Harrowmont turns out to be just as bad at being king as Bhelen, is his own way.
Revenge on Seifer in FF8 is missing? He calls you a pubescent boy, abandons you to a HUGE mechanical spider-bot and then joins the enemy. You finally get revenge at the end of disk 1. Yay!
Then disks 2/3/4: he tortures you, leads an army into a school you run and finally hands your girl over to a space defrosting sorceress controlled by a future sorceress! Then he KILLS Odin. He was ripe for repeated beatings!
Seen the ending recently? Granted, some might find fishing pretty boring, but I wouldn't exactly call it revenge . . .
@@EmonyLP I play it every year. The final revenge is that he is reduced to becoming a useless fisherman in Balamb - which he invaded and wouldn't cope with the forgiveness of the locals. Plus, he clearly sucks at fishing! :)
@@Numbers-06127 Just out of curiosity: do you prefer low-level no enemy encounter runs (and morphing almost every enemy) or do play it the normal way?
I love the game yet have finished it only 5 or 6 times since its release in 1999 but could never bring myself to go the length and avoid fights or morph most enemies.
@@Pendragon667 I like to mix it up. Getting all top weapons on disk 1 (except Irvine's) was fun but way too long. Gotta spend 20 hours playing triple triad cards for items. Honestly never bothered with morph, I prefer to use physical atks with high junctioned magic.
What's nice in MegaMan X is there are two ways of getting the Buster Upgrade for X. The one most people would get is Zeros Buster as he gifts it to you before he "dies" which we all know from future games that never happened. The other upgrade, the one meant for X is found in Flame Mammoths stage which requires both the dash boots (chill penguins stage) and the helmet (storm eagle's stage) where you'll notice similar breakable blocks leading upwards giving you X's Buster Upgrade.

Nah, Sir Pat is in Oblivion, because several of the Bugthesda devs are a bunch trekkies and decided to spend the other half of the voice cast budget fangirling over him being in their game. (the other half was spent on Sean Bean, because 2005)
How about Ghost of Tsushima? Near the start you fight the big bad Khotun Khan and he properly owns you and throws you off a bridge only for you to level up over the course of the game and turn his army and him into mulch.
Hmm, reminds me of the Boss from MGS3, but she was nicer. Not even a real villain, even.

Man, Benny keeps showing up in lists. It's like Fallout: New Vegas is a great game, or something.
If you guys ever do a part 3, I really hope you mention Kurt Dierker from The Saboteur. As soon as you meet him in the opening levels, with his arrogant, self love (and TOTALLY isn't a Nazi) you just hate the man. Then shoots out your car tire, cheating a win on the big race you've been setting up for... Then sexually assaults your female friend and then goes and unloads a entire clip into your other friend, while totally not understanding what a Irishman even is... The ending where you unload whatever weapon you want into his face, knocking him off the Eiffel Tower.
Also, another great one to have would be Gary from Bully. Spends the entire first half acting as your best friend, giving you all the information and help to survive Bullworth, then turns around and back-stabs you, publicly. So you have to spend the entire game getting all the gangs on your side (even the town kids) all the while avoiding all the fake stories and lies Gary has been spreading around campus to get every to murder you for him, before the big "I am such a king!" speech at the end of the game. Kicking his ass was SO satisfying.
