Set is so silly because he can be either a frontline diver, ADC DPS, Artillery mage, or dive assassin depending on your mood, the team comp, time of day, the alignment of the stars, and what he had for breakfast that day
I feel like Vulcan can also be classified as Zone/Artillery mage because he has relatively low cooldowns. You contasntly poke someone down with his 1. And his 2 can zone narrow corridors (you either destroy it or take the dmg by walking past it). I mean he can def burst someone with a clean combo, but should also be in the zone/artillery tier, plus it makes sense with his God design & kit 😂
One of the best videos you have made on this channel this is something everyone who is starting to play and or learning smite should see. This helps with team comps for ranked to have a more balanced team or to counter pick.
love this idea, wish this was on the smite character selection ui or just more info in general. Another video idea to break this down even further is giving each god a 1 to 5 or 1 to 10 rating on burst damage, area damage, single target sustain damage, sustain healing, mobility, cc (could break this down even further to which type of cc), defense maybe jungling capability, etc (idk what a pusher means when hi-rez added that to gods i think wave clearing ability?) Maybe a video going through all guardians, then all hunters, then one or 2 parts for mages and so on. There probably is common strengths/weaknesses for the gods of each archetype.
I feel Hades should be utility, like I get he can built to burst but his playstyle is so different to other burst mages as typically they want to stay in the back where as Hades needs to be in the fight. He also has a team heal which people often forget about silence/fear and then the AoE ult.
I really liked this type of classification, but I think it probably should of been a Venn diagram of each class rather than a tierlist of all of them together, so you can put Gods like Nox or Janus in the Burst/ Utility rather them in the same group as Scylla, who is just a Burst Mage. Still though great video!
I think it'd be interesting to put some of the mages in different classes categories accordingly, like Hades in the DiveAssassin tier (cause that's kinda how he plays regardless of role), or putting Anubis in the True Assassin tier (because he is forced to play that way in competent games), even the Morrigan should be placed in True Assassin imo
I mostly play mages so I have my own internal classification for them. - Mage ADCs: Self-explanatory, the 4 ones we have currently - Mage assassins: Only Ao Kuang and The Morrigan fit here, and maaaybe He Bo depending on your playstyle (for now, because it seems Maman will be a mage assassin) - Utility mages: Here I mix those who are usually played in solo or support like Aphro, Hel, Hades, Zhong, Baron, Eset... you either frontline to create space for your team or you stay by them to help them directly. The point is damage is secondary, you're probably tankier that your normal mage. - Burst mages: Long cooldowns, but when they're up you wanna try to oneshot people like Zeus, Poseidon, Scylla, Anubis, Nu Wa, Hera... - Cooldown simps: CDR synergizes well with their kit because they can bother people with it with CC or zoning like Discordia, Merlin, Ah Puch, Baba Yaga, Janus, Agni... Of course, many gods can be played in many different ways, most probably belong to multiple categories at the same time.
Pretty good categorization of the different play-styles. One of the best things about this game is most of these gods can be flexible enough to dip into other categories, so I get how difficult placing some are. I have diamonded all the Warriors and all but Charon for Guardians and do feel those are pretty accurate except for Tyr, he should have been in controller. He wants to get in an push people just like Kuzenbo, he also has more CC to knock people around or stun them now. Honestly the year we got Tiamat and Morgan Le Fey sucked because they both play basically the same. At least with Merlin and Olorun being released they wanted to do different things.
Yee, he can flex into an ability build, but because of his hives, he really thrives when you build him full ADC since you don't need as many as items to hit cap. either you hit harder than the meta normally would because you packed in a pure power item, or you attack faster than the meta since you just have more as by default.
Maybe I just don't understand the meaning of being an artillery mage, but I always understood it as mages with much better range compared to burst mages, not just that they can spam abilities. That they can hit you from distances you can't compete with, and that's their bread and butter. It's like in LOL, but Smites version could differ. By that reasoning, Vulcan should be in artillery/zoning.
I think a chart would be better for this video, some gods overlap on different archetypes or could be build in different ways to fill those archetypes, like Chronos, Ao Kuang, Sol, Ullr, Neith, Amaterasu, etc., the tierlist is not a bad idea, but a chart is better for this archetype of video (pun intended)
in my oppion the morrigan could also be an assasin (just looking at the base kit because her ult is just everything). her on is super short range and she also has an invise
I’d argue Morgan can be considered an artillery mage, her abilities have deceptively long range imo and they are up quite often. I’d also say Da Ji is move of a True Assassin than a dive, she does decently well at finding out of position targets and deleting them, her ult is also really good for pulling some people out of the fight to score a kill.
Perfect idea of a video man I just decided to pick up Thoth bc he so one of the best mages for ranked and I recently heard in multiple videos artillery mage so I looked that up and found out what it was. This video is perfect timing man keep up the great work
I think Danza could definitely be argued for ADC Burst, a power build on Danza is actually SUPER viable if done right. Obviously he's really good with autos but his sake does a lot more damage then people really give credit for, his bags also do insane damage if he can hit all three. A Danza Ult+Bag combo can almost kill most squishys.
Is this chart searchable on tiermaker? If so, what is the title or link? I would like to reference it when considering gods to refresh myself on. I’ve been away from smite for over 6 months.
Could you make a video with a short description/guide to each of these archtypes? Like to explain how theyd play in a match/how theyd fit into certain teams?
i would relay enjoy an "alignment star" for all gods. where you can clearly see what the good is good at like ccs/cc-chains, burst, how far he can/has to move up (from ares to thoth), are they "pokers" and maybe basic kombos could also be nice to see. so if i want to pick up a new good i can simply go to the video and get all basic infos that i need to start.
I would put Geb as frontline support mainly bc his ult is much better used to initiate fights as opposed to peeling. Since the dmg scales off current hp
Right but you blink ult then go straight back to peel, just because you blink ultimately doesn't mean you stay in the front you just initiate and get relics and do good damage them back off to counter their counter dive, Frontline vs backline is basically saying do you care more about supporting your Frontline in dicing the enemy backline or protecting your backline from their dive, in general
I think that you could have added kind of a juggernaut archetype, to specify the gods who can't really dive like other gods, so they serve as a danger zone to approach for the ennemis. I mainly thought about this archetype for Surtr who can dive but without his ult he mainly serves as a big piece of meat who bully ennemis.
Frontline diver could be dived into diving to kill and diving to disrupt. Vamana I would put in the former because you're diving ulting and trying to kill someone with the ult versus Nike who is going to disrupt the enemy's with her cc and ult.
I love the idea for this video, but I can't say I necessarily agree with your placement and/or breakdown of the mage class. I think the difference between an artillery mage vs a burst mage is subjective and determined more by playstyle rathan than the kit in a lot of cases
Change & Knox definitely utility mages. Morrigan = Magical Assassin(an Archetype the game needs more of). I think DaJi is the most "True assassin" in the game. She has no escape unlike almost everyone else(Arachne & NeZha the same). So, when goes in, she's in. Which makes her more of the type who sits on the edge of fights looking to pick off who she can. I understand why you put her as dive, though. She can initiate the action, but it's really not preferred unless you're sacrificing yourself for the mage/adc.
Another reason I put da ji in dive is because her ult buys her so much time for free so she can initiate, ult and wait for back up. Also her lack of 'get out' mobility is also a point for dive as she doesnt really just weave in and out of the fight like a true assassin. When she's in, she's in.
@@Inters3ct I can definitely see your point with her ult. I honestly use it as my get out jail card most of the time. So, that makes very logical sense. I also see your point with not being able to weave in & out of fights as well. I just don't like putting myself in the middle of the mix with her, unless I'm confident I'm taking someone important with me. It's like a guaranteed death warrant. 😂☠
I would consider Sylvannus as more of a controller with the massive amounts of CC that is in his kit but totally agree he excels as a backline support also
Freya while she doesn't build for power still feels super bursty to me. You're usually waiting for your 1-2 combo to do anything. Not an ability ADC in the traditional sense but still super reliant on her abilities to do damage
I would argue Cliodhna and even Tsukiyomi should be moved to the artillery/zoner mage category just because of how their neutrals play compared to someone like Susano or Ao Kuang. Tsuki/Clio who are looking to sit at safe off angles and poke you for 60% of your hp before going in unlike Ao/Sus who are just looking for a good blink engage and instantly take a squishy out of the game. I think it's important to make the distinction between what a god's optimal neutral vs what they can do at a baseline.
I feel like you should've added one more, the Ability Poker. There are a lot of characters who fit into this role, who want to consistently poke down their enemy in an effort to force a back. Chang'e, for example, is a Poke character. She doesn't have the burst damage that most other mages have, she doesn't have the scaling for it either, what she does have, however, is the ability to spam her 1 so often that she can force people to back simply because that damage over time is overwhelming. Agni probably would've fit better into that category as well given how his ult works.
@@LemonCreamPyRose Poke mages are included with artillery/zoners and they don't need to have low cooldowns just enough safe poke and consistent damage to be a threat. Your example with Change'e is kinda bad considering she's supposed to be either a bruiser or burst mage
@@CFallescence Bruiser Mages are themselves a type of Poke Mage. This archetype comes from League of Legends, they're usually characters who don't have the scaling to do immediately threatening damage, and instead poke people down over time. Chang'e is the perfect example of that with her 1, which has low scaling yet low cooldown, which makes up for the low scaling. Just because you can play someone as a burst character doesn't necessarily mean they are one. The same goes for the other archetypes, Scylla can burst but she has zoning, Nox can burst but she mainly plays utility, etc. Other forms of Poke Mages (when built damage or bruiser) are Baron Samedi, Charon (Mr Built like a Mage but still a Guardian), Vulcan, He Bo, Raijin, Hades, Agni, and Zhong Qui. Their early games are dictated by Ability Spam, and their late games tend to not be as powerful as other mages due to either their mostly limited range or their abilities having a more aggressive note to then, even as escapes. @@LemonCreamPyRose Where did you get that bruiser and poke mages are anything alike? Poke mages 99% of the time are super squishy unlike the bruiser that's supposed to be tankier and close range (it's in the name). Optimal late game Chang'e gameplay is blinking in on a squishy then one shotting them.
