There was literally a winning goal in extra time of the EUROS 🤣
Getting rid of extra time would be so sad
Extra time is essential
Fact
@@robertmorici8605 Extra time is pointless
so many great goals have happened in extra time, I love the drama it offers. Goals in open play are better than penalty shootouts
They should bring back the Golden Goal rule (sudden death goal). Its been 20 years since FIFA abolished the rule, but football has changed, teams have to take more risks to make it more entertaining.
Extra time is essential, without it, you'll have the worse teams go through all the time.
Let them use the whole bench in extra time, simple.
I see this being a great addition
great for England but teams with a thin squad like Belgium or Croatia would really suffer
I think it's clear the guys making decisions dislike this sport.
@@leigh7507 So? Your objection is that it favours nations with more good players.
@@a-walpatches6460 I'm not really objecting - I just like when small nations compete
They should make a rule that anyone grabbing a shirt gets a booking. (VAR watching for it) When they start getting suspensions it would stop and it would be harder to defend legally on corners, possibly more goals.
i agree. and it's not hard to not grab someone's shirt. just have to break the habit.
Ye that would be too fair of a rule tho and would prevent the refs from changing the outcome of the game
Just get rid of the stupid rule called offside and it’s gonna be a goalfest!
Getting rid of offside is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. That would bastardize all of the goal stats.
@@tonytellingitlikeitis5708 lol, 😂, and grabbing a shirt doesn’t ? People grab a shirt on average once per min. Every step two people chasing down a ball it’s a shirt grab, albeit subtly
They should play extra time.
Yes they should.
Most of the time both teams are happy to draw and take their chances with penalties
No. It should be abolished
they should. it diminishes the game a lot going straight to Pens.
@@magicaces13 The thing is though, teams are more than happy to go to pens. If they get eliminated that way, no one blames them. It's the cowardly way out.
Domestic football is definitely much higher quality than international football. Most of the games in the Euros and Copa America have been terrible. Champions League knockout round football is truly the best football played in the world.
Domestic football as in Everton vs Burnley? You’re conflating few games from top teams like RM, City with all teams playing great football.
, that’s nonsense. Even City vs Burnley or Madrid vs Alaves is boring, you know the result 99% of the time before the game started. It might be more entertaining but better quality than national teams? Nonsense
@@Fayce66when has Burnley and Everton played in the champions League?
You started your comment with “domestic football is much higher quality” Everton and burnley are domestic football. If you are just talking about champions league, use the right words. In that case, your argument has some merit but still some games can be boring. Matter of opinion.
It’s so crazy to think almost every top club teams wouldn’t smash any international side ever. Real Madrid, city, Liverpool and so many other teams would destroy England France and Argentina
It used to be very different, in the early 2000s Barca drew Brazil 2-2 with 2 of their players playing for Brazil. Today Brazil would lose 4-0 to a bad Barca era.
It's not that crazy when you take a moment to think about it. Club players play with each other every day. In the national team they will be together for a few weeks every few months, and even then the makeup of the squad is constantly changing
Yeah, it's a crazy take. Top clubs are purpose built for a system. National teams have to shoe-horn talent in where they can.
And yes, the chemistry that comes with playing and practicing together every week is completely different.
People love the narrative of international football, but top club competition is much higher caliber play.
@@telquel7843also smaller countries are beginning to produce more standout players. Haaland and odegaard are 9 figure players who are not even in the euros
Good point @@dukesb
why not implement "sudden death" like American football... the first team to score wins without playing the entire 30 min. extra time.. I think this will bring more offensive minded game
They tried this, the result was 2 teams mostly sitting back and defending, both too scared to commit to attack increase they got countered
We had that before, in the 1996 Euros. It was called "Golden goal". Germany beat Czechia on it in the final.
Interesting. I did not know they tried this.. I still don't get why teams would rather go to penalty (which is basically a crapshoot) when they can win by scoring first?
Bring back the Golden Goal, which is first to score wins in extra time.
THIS
It never happened against England, but I always thought it seemed deflating for the game when a golden goal was scored.
Golden goal great in theory and fun in fifa but it actually makes the game less exciting because both teams park bus out of fear
Terrible idea
Problem there is your literally saying play til your injured.what if they don't score for another hour?
Don't get rid of extra time
Extra time is an essential part of the game, do u not want it....PLAY BETTER during regular time and win it!
Do not get rid of it for the sake of wanting more games...that won't improve the game, playing better during regular time will!
"well its not my water bottle!" -- great quote
stop added competitions and shitty money spinners at the end/pre seasons
The FA Cup replays decision is an absolute disgrace. The big boys looking after themselves and not the game as a whole.
There's more money in the game than there ever has been. Some of that flows down to the lower league teams via a variety of different channels. Revenues for lower league teams have never been higher. The scramble by billionaires to own lower league teams has never been greater. This is 100% down to the success of the Premier League and the global interest in the "big boys" that you accuse of not looking out for the game as a whole. I agree they are only looking after themselves, but we cannot argue that their success hasn't brought greater riches to lower league football. Just because it has not happened in the way you want it to, doesn't mean that the game isn't in a stronger place than it was 20 years ago. Ask any league 1 or league 2 player if they are better remunerated today than they were 20 years ago - on an inflation adjusted basis - and they will unanimously answer yes. How is that bad for football?
@@thecountofmontecristo8280 There's a lot more to the pyramid L1 & 2. Wages I'm sure are very satisfactory, but then they more than likely were 20 years ago. My team Darlington had a player in L2 around 2000 on £8k a week, more than enough now. That example by no means typical then of course, all that side of the game has been mad for years. Certainly I want to see fewer cowboy chairmen in the game, that cannot encourage trickle down. Darlington are fan owned now, precisely because of dodgy owners, we only just survived and live on what we can raise and earn. It's a wider malaise, with lots of clubs at risk.
Removing replays benefits smaller clubs. Replays always favour the bigger times
If you get rid of extra time more teams will try and park the bus....they've increased the size of the squads to account for tiredness, that should be enough. Or how about increasing number of penalties to 7 if they have to then.
What they should change is that in ET you can put players that have been subbed out during the 90 minutes back in, but if it goes to PKs any player that was subbed out during the 90 minutes cannot take a PK.
What a miserable panel!
Stevie spot on.
The world cup was halfway through the season , the players arent shattered yet
Only the losing sides complain about how penalty shoot outs go why should any one sorry for Brazil who couldn't score on a team with 10 men? 😂😂
That isnt brazil bro without neymar what is brazil? Neymar made brazil win tournament withour neymar brazil doesnt exist😂😂
You want teams to defend for 90mins and try to get to penalties? Because that's what will happen.
There should be Golden Goal and that's it.
@@jc6087golden goal makes teams more defensive lol because both teams park the bus out of fear. Thats why they removed it
@@Zacksolos2007bro what? Brazil won in 2019 and neymar didnt play in that tournament because surprise surprise he was injured

I agree with Stevie here.
I love it when the old timer is the voice of wisdom. I agree with Stevie, on extra time.
cant you play kane and Toney in front ?? Toney can hold up the ball , then bellingham and Kane and do some tricks, forget about Foden. Saka and Gordon in both side, I can't see it fails. Most of the time will be playing in Netherland's side, that's a great pressing
I'm with Steve. World Cup final 2022 Argentina-France extra time was the most exciting thing ever happened in international football.
It's time to drop Southgate.
And foden
They might lift the Cup
What if england lift the cup in Berlin ? Would southgate be sack ?
Klopp should be England Manager
right before a semi-final? no thanks.
Stop complaining and find solutions. Use deeper benches coahches have to coach the whole team and use the whole team.
Lol when I read the thumbnail, I thought they meant scraping ESPN Extra Time. I was like Noooooo as I watch that more than the actual show
Bring back the Golden Goal instead of removing extra time.
What a terrible idea, respectfully. How are some of you trying to ruin this sport?
start Toney
More a minute there I thought they meant the segment 😰🤣🤣
I don't buy this excuse about players being tired. Teams have 26 man squads and they should be using all the squad. Anthony Gordon has played 4 or 5 minutes in 5 games and Wharton hasn't featured at all.
95% of goalkeepers saved penalties are just terrible player shots, and more players miss the entire goal than get their penalty saved.
When a goal gets disallowed because a man's nose is offside, but another player can use his hands to defend in the box - the quality of soccer is reduced. I've seen so much stuff called over disgracefully small margins and yet hugely obvious plays never got called. If they want the game to be exciting, use VAR to overrule the stuff that one could have seen from the parking lot and let players play. Additionally, PLEASE someone start calling diving. Initiating contact and hurling oneself onto the ground is not a foul and it cheapens real fouls.
If international teams trained together as often as club teams there wouldn't be much a difference. But that makes winning an international tournament more compelling and satisfying.
Ok, end extra time, the extra thirty mins then penalties..but play extra time till golden goal,…and keep all the competitions.
Golden goal was a failed experiment that didn't make for good watching
cut extra time down to 10 mins x 2 and bring back golden goal
No extra time will mean more time wasting by players. What a terrible idea
Why repeat and re release this footage!!!??
Cramp ? ...There are six odd subs for that type of problem...... Hang on all teams international and domestic have squads
especially the big teams playing the most games.....
We need extra time. Penalties feel like a coin flip or rock-paper-scissors. Adding an extra round was the wrong move. The number of 3rd place teams that got through was stupid
You get 6 subs for a game that goes to extra Time
France Germany world cup semi 1982 was amazing in extra time.
17:58 - Macca spot on….. Nothing actually changed with the the supposed shift in formation…… 😂😂😂.
Southgate is the problem….
Of course Kane needs to be dropped, he was horrendous not only the last game with Swiss but the last 4 tournaments for England. We all know that. But we also know Southgate won't do it because Southgate wants to be known as a player's coach , a coach who's close with his star players and have the support of all starters. Southgate needs this because he knows the world is against him the last 7 years.
I want Chelsea to sign Ivan Toney next season .
Go down the Rugby route of 40 minutes per half with no injury time - the clock continues on the 40 minute mark until the ball is out of play giving a team the opportunity to still have a late attack. That cuts games down by up to 20 minutes.
Should start every game with a 5 pen shoot out then play 90
Have pens before extra time
Nichol absalutely spot on regarding extra time
South Gate needs to give Ollie Watkins more minutes man, smh, and maybe Cole Palmer a bit more. Keep mainoo in there as well sheesh
why it is too much for the footballers when they play extra time before shoot out? one simple solution is to allow every team to carry a bigger bench and sub in during the game. it will be more interesting if they allow 11 subs for each game. the team has a deeper bench squad will dominate in every game.
not playing extra time is simply not making the game more exciting.
Oggie is spot on with his analysis of Gareth.....
They should bring back the golden goal….
Easy solution for extra time. Increase squad sizes to 30 and substitutions to 10 players. Playing 120 minutes of football is a lot for even the fittest player. It would reduce injuries and an extra level of tactical possibilities.
They should play 70 minutes Effective Playing Time. 35 minutes per half. Clock stops when the ball isn't in play.
That should rid you of all that delay, stalling and theatre.
Start actually penalizing teams more harshly for fouling the $@#& out of their opponents.
Shaka knows.
6:27 international football aint the pinicle. If you put real madrid or man city into the euros they would walk it
Stevie was right for once. lmao
i’m with stevie!! stop changing the game we all love. leave it alone.
What ever is added or removed, at the end, the game have to be more fair and exciting. Then everything will fall in place
Football needs to be more creative when it comes to extra time. 2 halves of 15mins is not attractive football. Switch it to only one extra time period of 15 mins and take out 1 player from each side. A 10 vs 10 will open up the field to scoring of goals, plus team will be allowed 2 additional substitutes in extra time to the current 5 subs used for regulation period. This will enable more tactical play and strategy. Coaches will need to earn their stripes here. ( I would even go with the first team to score wins inside this 15mins extra time, but i don't think Football world is ready for this )
Chiesa can also be a good option for Chelsea next season.
One thing solves this: change the substitution rules to Basketball Style.
Could allow for more substitutes. Yellow cards should put the receiving team down a player for a short period of time like hockey for power plays.
Why don’t they get rid of VAR? I’m sick of seeing replays of obvious wrong calls, and VAR doesn’t step in to reverse the decision to “back the ref”….
I definitely don't want to see matches go straight to penalties personally.
I do agree that fixture congestion is an issue, and unfoetunately the money side of the game will only want more matches to be played. And usually money wins. So likely we will see extra time scrapped in the future. But it's unfortunate.
Teams should strive to win in 90 minutes
Dan... Is just making frustration talks about quality.😂
I think england win this euros and gareth bows out and no one will get us as far for decades, it will be the perfect example of how the british constantly turn on there own 🙌
I mean, it's literally painful to watch the games - it's not a business where all you care about is growth, it's a sport that people watch for enjoyment
People still talk about England games from 30 years ago - this stuff is just unwatchable
agreed, arrogance and a lot of the fans don't understand what they've got now.
Not that I know anything but I’ve noticed Kane being open a number of times and his teammates never pass him the ball. Seems he only gets it when a desperate header is needed. He didn’t get an extra time penalty kick.
Why southgate look like a mini dinosaurs in the thumbnail 😂
Gets on my nerves, medling with the beautiful game..why not just have penalties and no 90 minutes then!! (Cynically said)
More games just mean coaches have to have deeper benches, and use and develop more players. You dont have to play your starters every game.
Balance the games.... adding games is not the problem coaches need to CHANGE they mindsets of only sticking with 11 players go way deeper on your teams
Why not have the penalties before Extra Time, then the team that lost have to go for it and win
Why not just have a set 15 minutes extra time. 30 minutes too long. Simple
i reckon go with with 10mins per half and if you score in the 1st half you win at half time.
How about extra time, but its mandatory to bring ALL players off the bench to play the extra time?
We have been very lucky to get where we are, without a future game plan based on the oppositions style however, we won't win the competition.
ESPN. We love you. ❤
-Dude- Girl, seriously?
no we don't
A tiny suggestion, football is a team sport, so the penalty series should be eleven against eleven players. Because in that way it is a team sport again. And it would be great fun and every player is then obliged to practice on penalty’s.
Would be much fairer than the present system.
By the way I’m Dutch, we almost always lose with penalty’s.
Just do golden goal in extra time
I don't think extra time is the problem, it's the frequency that a game cannot be decided in regulation time. This is unique to soccer, I cannot think of another sport where extra time or draw is as common.
They should do what hockey does. Unlimited extra time in the knockout rounds until someone scores the winner Thats the only way to make the game more exciting by letting the teams know that there is no more the lottery of a penalty shootout.
Being back Golden Goal!
Golden Goal makes teams more afraid to take risks
@@TerribleEnglishthis 👆
@@TerribleEnglish not any more so than teams parking the bus like Uruguay holding out of PKs. If anything, it rewards the team that takes the risk to score just as much as it punishes those parking the bus
@@MrEmperorApples Teams don't take risks to score, that's the point. They'd rather take their chances with penalties and say 'oh well..' if they lose
Golden goal made for awful watching
Steve McManaman "believes" they will abolish extra-time because he doesn't like it. I remember Stevie being against it but I'm glad he's changed his mind!
England Keep Calm and Harry On
International tournaments are the best. Don't know what's wrong with Dan (aside from being English).
the sheer disrespect from the naff host and Mark Ogden in particular, absolutely grim. Get behind the England team or STOP TALKING. It's a semi-final of a summer international tournament, not the Premier League.
10:25 is an excellent point. Apples 🍎 and Oranges 🍊
Emi Martinez probably the best stopper in pens in the world he’s just reactive, has confidence, looks at hips, and has the advantage of quick reflexes and size
Inflation is a massive blow for football
Extra time should never be getting rid of some teams just play for penalties like Madrid vs City! You then hope that there is extra time and 30 minutes where they can still try to avoid that.
Hockey might have an answer: reduce the number of players on the field for extra time. 7 plus a goalie? 6 plus a goalie? Hockey eliminated draws completely decades back -- not just for tournaments but for regular season games in most leagues. If there still isn't a goal after overtime, then they go to a shootout (breakaways.) The playoffs are a bit different: no more shootouts, all draws are settled with extra periods, 1st goal in the extra period ends the game instantly.
He needs to drop Kane and start toney and Watkins together give the Dutch something to worry about the Dutch defence will not worry about marking a statue playing kane is the same as playing with 10 men
Stevie Nicol is right about extra time. I think most fans don't want games decided by pens but the reality is if you play 90mins plus an extra 30mins extra time you really can't moan about going to the lottery of pens.
At the end of the day most football fans want to see the best teams advancing and dropping extra time would mean the chances of teams fluking results just got a whole lot bigger.
I am not sure how much extra time players play over a season but I'm willing to bet it's a tiny amount.
The debate of club football vs International football is never ending and actually very interesting. This isn’t my opinion but just to create a conversation. Can we maybe assume international football is more pragmatic and slow tempo because of the fact that the stakes are higher? As a player, representing your country surely is more important than representing a club that you’re most likely not even a fan of. Thoughts?
Fist fight instead of penalties
Dropping Kane a stupid idea.
I thought people loved extra time, more football
yeah not sure at all what mcmanaman was talking about on that when he said people just groan when it goes to extra time. never heard any groans myself.
i do
Only when they're not playing to force the PK shootout.
Why do you have to talk over each other?? Absolutely annoying AF!!
