People think Calafiori is a replacement for Zincenko but I have a feeling Arteta is going to move Zincenko into a midfield role.
No chance of that happening. Zinchenko is too weak and unathletic.
Will never happen, not robust enough for midfield in the PL.

Highly doubt Calafiori can play the RB position effectively. If Kiwior and Zinchenko are sold (which is advisable for sporting and financial reasons), better to look at it this way:
Left Back: Calafiori, Timber & Tomiyasu.
Left C.Back: Gabriel, Calafiori, Saliba, White, Tomiyasu & Timber.
Right C.Back: Saliba, White, Tomiyasu, Timber, Calafiori & Gabriel.
Right Back: White, Timber & Tomiyasu.
Can even have Rice in either CB positions in extreme emergencies, so that's solid depth for the backline with added bonus of funds coming in from sales of Kiwior and Zinchenko.

This is good thinking by Arteta. The addition of Calafiori fortifies the team and increases squad depth. There'll be more latitude to replace injured or vulnerable players and of course a higher chance of winning the league and contending for the CL. As a Liverpool fan I'm jealous and devastated by my Management's lukewarm attitude in strengthening our squad with a defender like Cala especially in view of this Slot's experiment.
What this means is Arsenal will have two very good bench defenders always available. We can now rest saliba or gabi more than we have previously. I’m really excited with this signing
Arsenal signing Calafiori also opens up opportunities to sign other Italian defenders in the future as he is the current face of the Italian national team backline and Italian defenders generally do not leave Italy. If He stays here for a long time and excels more Italian defenders may take the chance and go abroad to Arsenal or even other teams.

Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Timber, White, Tomiyasu, Calafiori, Kivior, and Tierny - 5 of those can play left back (and Saka can play there too!) - it seems to be a problem positions for Arteta
Arsenal rely so much on Saka…and have little genuine cover if he’s on a long term injury.

ben white is 1 of the best all-round footballers in europe. he is actually 1 of the few english players that i like to watch. personally i always think that he played his best football as defensive midfielder for Leeds

BTW i am italian Roma supporter who has watched most of Calafiori's games in his career and i can tell you 100% that he is a very average LB. if he does not play at CB for you then Arteta will have wasted 50m euros & maybe even ruin the growth of a very good young player

I don't understand why everyone seems to think Kiwior will be sold or loaned out. As I understand none of the defenders will leave . Kiwior is a left centre back to deputise Gabriel,Tomiyasu will deputise White. Zinchenko deputises Timber. The numbers are balanced for rotation purposes

Califiori aint gonna start. Timber will be the starter. Califiori will fill in at cb or lb when needed. He can even play CDM in an emergency
That's wrong, the reason Arsenal has improved a lot defensively in the last two seasons is because the midfieldrs and the forward players are now carrying out their defensive duties both upfront and deep in Arsenal's half.
And people wonder why Southgate would always trust Saka mor than Palmer or other wingers. It simply because Saka is more tactically disciplined than all of them and there's nothing those other wingers can do offensively that Saka cannot do, if not even deadlier than all of them.

Absolutely not! Terrible decision to keep zinchenko Arteta needs to get rid immediately. Zinchenko cannot defend as a defender 🙄 how is he going to defend at cm. He ball watches and has no positional awareness. He also gets knocked off the ball to easily. A weaklink in defense and a weaklink in midfield. Also injury prone.

The reason why the player chose Arsenal over Juventus is because Bologna made it clear to Juve that they would would not sell the player to another team in Italy to strengthen them. Juve would have had to pay a lot more than Arsenal did. Was Madrid even interested? Didn't they deny interest in the player as they have their backline sorted out? I followed Bologna quite a bit and he played really well. He still has a long way to go and I'm not sure he's a player that can florish in the PL, but I'd be excited to get him if I was an Arsenal supporter. I just hope they won't ruin him in England.

Why does Arteta want to sell Kiwior though? The guy was consistent when Arteta finally decided to play him for the final few games of the 2022/23 after Holding performed poorly while replacing Saliba who was injured. Kiwior produced solid performances in his first game vs Chelsea and then against an inform and robust Newcastle side after that. Last season he replaced Zinchenko seamlessly. I like Zinchenko but why is Arteta acting like he has some sort of allegiance to him? He is the weakest defender we have. If anyone should go it should be him first
