Thank you!!! I know how to do excellent injections in humans but I am sorry to say my turtle Mikey’s shots did not go so smooth tonight...I am glad I found this video as he has several more! I didn’t realize I could take out his little arm, I thought I had to get it when it was tucked in and he ended up pushing my needle away! I’m confident the next injection will be much better 🥰
Thank you so much my mother class pet turtle needs a vitamin injection and the vet I went to explained it but even he had trouble with the method you explained I was able to administer the shot in less than 5 minutes safely and effectively
So, you want to put needle in the muscle? Also, my vet when he had his first injection at the hospital did it on the back of his hand/paw on his front leg. Is it better to do the hand or the arm?
Just started this and did for the second time today with my turtle! This is helpful, although my turtle is very stubborn and won’t let me grab her arm. Takes about 10 minutes🤦🏼♀️
My vet has been injecting the antibiotic in the rear legs cause of a wound my res has in her rear leg. Ugh. Now I’m going to have to talk to my Vet about the efficiency of the shot. 😞 Thank you for your knowledge Dr.
@@juliapadilla4064 thats good to hear. mine has been suffering from pneumonia for about 3 months now. she was on the wrong meds for over 2 months as one vet didnt want to do a throat culture. im not sure if mine will live as the pneumonia had reached in both of her lungs.
@@danjones6702 oh no. I’m sorry that happened. Some Vets don’t seem to know how to treat reptiles. Unless it’s a HERP Vet. Are you also dry docking and keeping the temp warm? Remember no drafts and turtles heal slow as they do everything slow.

Thank you so much for this!! I feel so much more confident about doing this!!!
That’s not a tortoise. That’s a turtle.
I don't have a turtle or reptile of any sort, but I found this informative. lol
Very much informative..doc thank you so much for your guidance
i have the issue where the needles dont release the fluid. it stays in the syringe even after the plunger is pulled all the way forward.
Great video, very helpful. Thank you!

yeah, not sure why some do that because giving shots in the rear legs will damage kidneys.
@@danjones6702 she’s fine now. Not sure if the shots aided her or if she’s better cause of the dry docking and wound care I provided.

This was so helpful
Awww poor baby🥺❤️
what is the gauge of the needel?
23g maybe
Thx so much 👍🏻🐢😊
So I just had issues going in at a about a 45 degree angle, I can see here the angle of the needle is much more acute...back to the turtle..
How often should we give medication
once or twice a week for however long your vet recommends.
Do you have to pull the needle back before inserting to make sure you didn’t hit a vein?
@@chicchi19771this is intramuscular not IV, so no you don't
Thx 👍🏻😊🐢
Can I put my res right back in the water after the injection, or have him dry dock for a bit?
Right back in the water is fine.
I’m scared to hold her head😭
i love turtles! I have tree 😍
i can’t get the needle to penetrate my baby RES’s skin, dammit.
