Important information about UVB light and radiation for your reptile
This video will show how using a meter to measure the output of UVB radiation from UVB lights can vary depending on distance from the reptile, use of a screen to block the rays, and the output level. It is important for reptile owners to understand what kind of lights to buy and how to install them so their reptile will get the most benefit from these artificial UVB radiation sources.

    Can abscesses cause a rabbit to stop eating? My bunny has one under his chin thats just developed. Hes on pain relief and antibiotics and is getting it removed tomorrow. He has eaten himself since monday. Im having to syringe feed. Are they really painful enough to stop eating? Im worries there could be something else going on.

    This video was a life saver! I've been giving one of my bearded dragons sub q fluids weekly for about 8 months or so now and with him it is pretty easy because he freezes when he's unsettled so he doesn't fight me. I recently took in a rescue bearded dragon that also needs sub q fluids weekly for awhile but he is much spicier than the beardy I have been giving fluids to. The vet tech I saw walked me through restraint for a more spirited bearded dragon but I needed a refresher when the time came for me to handle his fluids. I was just about ready to give up and schedule him a tech appointment for his fluids when I watched this. He got his fluids, and I saved him the extra stress of another trip to the vet

    Excellent video! LOVE that you change to a second needle! A sharp needle inserts more easily and is, therefore, more comfortable to the bunny. I also love the tip about pulling back on the syringe to check to make sure the needle is under the skin and there’s no air. And I bet most vets don’t tell their clients to shake the penicillin vial before administering! Great, great video.

  • @LoveABun
    @LoveABun 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Good video. But I highly recommend using a smaller gauge needle than what vets typically give their clients to use! Vets typically use 18 gauge needles. These are quite big and administer the fluids quite quickly, thereby saving veterinary staff time. But larger needles are more painful to the animal upon insertion. The higher the gauge number, the smaller the needle. I use a 20 gauge needle for giving subQ fluids to animals. Sometimes I even use a 21 gauge needle if the animal is particularly nervous or small. The Terumo brand of needles is excellent. They are the sharpest on the market, sliding into the skin like butter! It’s best to slightly warm the fluids, which feels much more soothing to the animal than a bag of cold fluid. It’s difficult for an animal or a human to relax when cold fluid is being administered.

    • @SetariM
      @SetariM ปีที่แล้ว

      If you've been advised to do that by a vet for uric acid, more than likely it's to help cleanse the kidneys in this case. Follow the vet's advice.

    • @LoveABun
      @LoveABun 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The gauge of the needle used depends on the type of medicine being injected (some meds like penicillin are thicker and, therefore, require a bit larger gauge)-and the specific type of animal being injected.

      Put human Betadine directly on the wound (it disinfects without any pain) then spread all over the wound Baneocin - this tratament is applied after surgery . Cicatrization will speed a lot if you have an ointment with comfrey. The ointment might contaminate the feathers but at this point it is more important to save the bird. God help you!

    What temperature should the fluids be? Mine is at room temp, which today is probably about 80 degrees.

    • @LoveABun
      @LoveABun 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Even a bag at room temp inside a home can be quite cold to the skin. Run some fluid out of the line onto your wrist. It should be pleasantly warm. If not, submerge the bottom half of the bag into a clean bowl of quite warm water and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Be sure to test the temp again before administering to your rabbit to ensure it didn’t get TOO warm.
