My father, way back in 1986, bought the legendary 524tdl brand new, from the e28 series, a great car anyway, a very comfortable, fantastic, silent car as if it were a petrol version, even though it had its 2,400 cc and 115 HP turbodiesel engine......a great car for the time ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯
What a dream car, absolutely to fall in love with. In terms of performance, it is a very fast car even today, the 100-200 time is roughly on the same level as, for example. a Hyundai i30N or Focust ST. The car was a real rocket in 1985.
@@ag8912 bro never drove an older car and it shows... cars have only been going downhill since 90s. Youre one of those tiktok kids that thinks all cars need 100 billion hp to be competitive
As the owner of one for more than 20 years it's always great to see someone else enjoying the car. More people deserve to try it. I prefer it to my modern day M5 except for wintertime excursions 🙂
The e28 m5 was my poster car when I was kid. So much so, that today I have a 3.8L e28m5 and 6MT e60m5 today. Over the last 20+ years other m5s have come and gone, but the e28 and e60 m5s are never leaving.
Probably my dad’s favorite BMW (or at least his favorite 5 series). I’ve personally preferred the E34 more, but I can’t deny how good looking and how good this sounds.
How many "old models", beside German cars, which are perfectly made for this, do you think can stand a full throttle experience to maximum speed on the Autobahn?? Older M5 models of course. But certainly not "models" of carmakers from England or Italy. The Autobahn at top speed for a longer time is a totally different thing.
@@Porsche1969 I think old Porsches could withstand an ordeal like this, Benzes Audis as well, moreover other nations cars should not have been looked down on.

Very refreshing to see a different Autobahn in an area I actually know my way around. Also 16ish seconds 100 - 200 is fairly quick, considering the age of the car. It shows perfectly how much cars have developed if nowadays an i30 N or similar with a 4 banger can do those times.
I find myself these days not even viewing videos with car content containing newer cars... And the old is getting old.. Maybe its time to start with table tennis or something new 😂 // car/motorcycle guy born in the 80's
1:22 is not a M5 but rather a M535i. M5 E28 had no spoilers, side skirts or different bumpers. 2nd gear synchro on the Getrag 280/5 Sport is a weak point and when worn, makes a quick shift very difficult. M5 E34 has the same gearbox, bar the last 3.8 in 1995 with 6 speed box. I had 3 M5 E28, one of them with Albrex compressor and 420hp. Had a 3.46 diff instead of 3.73 and 4th gear at limiter was 260 kmh. 5th would have the needle at stopper (apprx 290) and revs go up further 300-400rpm. For a car with the aerodynamics of a fridge it was a lot, whatever the real speed was. It had no badges and was the absolute sleeper on BAB. Fuel consumption was about 25L/100km at full tilt. E34 M5 had a 3.91 diff and limiter at 7250 instead of 6900 on the E28, which helped acceleration. Had about 15 of those (I was buying cars for export in Germany in the 90s to early 2000).
First,in some Euro Export markets Aerodynamik Kit standart. Second,Aerodynamik Kit is a cost option for Euro DC91 LHD back in time. @@M5-Porzellan Which country version had it as standard? Optional extras are a totally different subject. I had a 525e with that Aerokit and there is even a M3 E30 Cabrio with 325iX drivetrain, built by BMW Individual. The M5 I mentioned was not standard. It was a '86 Lachssilber met I bought in Castrop-Rauxel with 523.000 km. It had it's 3rd engine which was a 3.6L with a 3.8L cylinder head with it's bigger valves and throttle bodies and of course the Albrex compressor kit. The owner drove 7000km per week with it and had changed virtually all moving parts at least once. He had bought a 540i E39 so he sold this one to me. I think I paid DM 7000 for it but not sure anymore. The original 3.73 210mm diff had been changed to a 3.46, resulting in the speeds I mentioned. Back then mobile phones had no GPS so I do not know the real speeds, but it was a lot faster than a AMG E55 I happened to have a bit of a race with on my way to Travemünde and onto Finnjet with it.

E28 and E34 were model generations while BMW still looked like a BMW. Next generations started to slowly loose own DNA. Also, on such older cars, try to reach the top speed in 4th gear instead of 5th geer. 5th gear is for cruising.
The sound is mesmerizing.

Not sure I'd go that far but it's hugely nicer than their current offerings.
