    In this video, I go over the NYCC Super7 Heat Ray Godzilla. It's fine, but it brings to the surface a glaring problem for Super7 at this time; they're not afraid to hit the customer multiple times back-to-back with subpar product, often beta testing to get us the product we actually want. Additionally, I believe they're piecemealing out accessories, in addition to their vague "exclusive" accessory sets to get customers to buy on renders that don't match the final product. Instead of focusing on getting $10 now and risking getting nothing later, I argue it's fairly reasonable for them to pack everything up front and make $5 now, and then retain customers for $5 on the next release, and so forth.

      There SOOO expensive.
      I found one at Best Buy and was going to buy it when I found out it was $85. The plastic quality feels like the same as the Walmart gvk toys so why can they be $40 or even $30 at minimum price. I feel like we’re being scammed. Especially when there’s huge Jurassic park figures going for $60 at max

    You know, this figure really does have me conflicted. Not in the sense of whether or not I like it, I don’t, I mean just in the wider scope of Super7 and their Ultimate’s line. It’s one thing to make a subpar figure and artificially raise the price to $80 just on the hopes of big toy = big money. It’s another when they stick to their guns despite the feedback they got from us, proceed to make the same figure, and make the bafflingly inept decision to give us a standard accessory that fails to accurately do what it’s supposed to. Two simple things could have saved Super7’s production cost with this: a hinge and a separate beam effect. Yet for some reason they decided that was too difficult and just sculpted it into one piece, while having the cajones to ask just as much for the original figure because “hurr durr exclusive!!!1!!!”
    I hate to say this since I agree it’s a case of different companies trying to accomplish different things… but quite frankly, why would I ever want to spend $80 on an objectively worse Godzilla figure from Super7 when I could spend $50-$60 on a Hiya Godzilla figure? The latter of which may lack a beam effect in some cases, but comes with better sculpting, quality of material, and painting in comparison to Super7’s blown up rubber nightmare. Super7 needs to do better with their Ultimate line if they want to keep this going, because as the kids say… this ain’t it chief.

      @seangentry2943 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well supposedly Hiya isn’t allowed to do Showa figures. If that’s true, Super7 is going to be cheapest option for fully articulated Showa figures, because they’re competing with SHMA then.
      Which is unfortunate given how poorly managed S7’s Godzilla ultimates have been so far.

    Yeah, I’ve been comfortable with my purchase of the Thirsty for Blood Godzilla, especially because I’m a big fan of the Dark Horse series, but I dropped all preorders with the rest. If they did more Godzilla figures based on the Dark Horse series or, Hell, the 1998 Animated Series, I think they’d have a greater foothold because that’s a section of Godzilla’s legacy that hasn’t been touched by major toy productions. They’d have that in with the fanbase in that direction. At least, ideally. Idk for sure. I’m not in marketing. It couldn’t hurt them any more than what they’ve done with the brand so far.

    A few weeks ago I cancelled every S7 Goji on BBTS except for Meltdown Goji because I figured there's no way for them to pull their classic earlier-adopter-punishment with such a highly detailed figure. No way they could shadow drop a better variant. But now, I'm concerned. They might have one up their sleeve like GitD orange paint or something. Ima cancel this one too. No more preorders for Sup7 from me. You get rewarded for not immediately supporting them. Idk if this company is actually trying to make money or is just a nonprofit in disguise trying to teach the world the value of patience 😭😂😂

    Imo, you ought not feel *at all* that you should have to justify this type of video or concede as if you are being "antognistic" here; On the contrary these types of videos need to be made by people who have a voice and an audience to hear them, and too often, too many are too scared of biting the hand that feeds when it comes to these types of critiques and criticisms, so good on you for keepin' 'em honest out there, it's an admirable thing to see.
    Super 7 uses a business model that almost exclusively relies on capitalization of the nostalgia of established fanbases. They don't have to build a new costumer base, they only need to serve an existing one fairly. These figures aren't 20 dollar offerings that you can typically find on the retail floor so the relationship they have with their potential customer is definitely more likely to be a more intimate one on top of everything else.
    Imo, these companies should definitely produce their repaints and make their money, of course, but there's better ways of doing this and screwing around with people's expectations is a very unappealing quality. Good video.

    I really kind of hope Super 7 goes a different direction than Hiya and SHMA.
    Rather than give us “movie accurate” sculpts just give us cool obscure variants, Poster Version, Meltdown Goji, CybotGoji, give us wild color variants (Trendmasters, Translucent Plastic Versions). Just something different!
    Maybe make some more obscure monsters like The Stranger from the Dark Horse comic version or do Concept Art versions or something. They just really can’t compete with SHMA or Hiya right now their sculpt and paint is subpar, their articulation is passable and the accessories feel pretty lackluster. If we got something other competitors don’t offer, like cool variants or obscure takes on a character I think there’d be a better niche for them.

    I like where your points are made. Hiya seems to be the only one listening. Although if super7 did make a trendmasters style repaint of space Godzilla I don't think I'd count that as a predatory act because I would personally feel those are two different products like one is retro/poster style and one is original movie accurate. But I'm onboard with you about all the other nonsense they are doing.

  • @ZZZGGGLLLAAAHHH
    @ZZZGGGLLLAAAHHH ปีที่แล้ว

    Super7's track record of poor quality control and final figures that are noticeably downgraded from the original preview renders basically amounts to their releases being borderline bait-and-switch scams. This company seems to care more about the fancy Ultimates packaging than the actual figures inside them. It's why I will never preorder a Super7 Ultimate figure ever again.

    In my opinion Super 7 needs to lower their prices for what the figures are they are greatly overpriced. They don't even look that great. These figures look more like $30 to maybe $40 at max but that's pushing it. They just are not worth $70 to $80 and almost $100 not at all. Same with the mezco sets those are overpriced as well for what they are.

    • @StevensToyReviews
      @StevensToyReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The price was a point I kinda didn't touch on because I think it's fairly obvious. However the only add on I wanted to piggyback off of was if they're going to do this method because "it's the industry standard" it's not, because Hasbro and the like charge $25-$30 for their Malibu Spandex Men. $85 for a new release which is what we wanted to begin with after we bought the original is totally different.

    I will say though I do like Super7 direct to customer "idea". Instead of putting out a product into production that no one asked for, get the interest and backing of the clients like how the Kickstarter figures do from G.I. Joe, I'd rather have people talk with their wallets than put something out that not many people were interested in and waste that time and resources which could have been put towards another figure/Kaiju. I'm really talking here about Gargantuans 🤦 everyone keeps asking Monster Arts to make these but damn that's a horrible idea, so small of a clientele there😂. I mean with social media they have an ability to take polls and communicate ideas with the clients and from there put it up for that pre-order method super7 is doing and let people put their money where there mouth is🤷

    • @StevensToyReviews
      @StevensToyReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      But that's a not good framing of it. No one is against them taking orders like that, the problems are ... As I outlined. Not delivering the quality they set up in the render and then doing something BETTER immediately after.

      @@StevensToyReviews I guess I haven't been hit with the buyers remorse yet since the only ones I've pre-orders are mechaG and Destoroyah. The others I got when they were on the market so I picked and chose which I wanted to not pickup. It's a gamble but from what I see they make more than the (direct to pre-order customer) quantity.
