Don’t know whether this has been mentioned before but You really need earphones to hear all Led Zeppelin has to offer. The studio version allows them to layer the instruments. You can’t get that live. But they are incredible live.
We used to stand someone up in the middle of the room with headphones on and eyes closed. Eventually they would start swaying and we'd have to catch them before they fall down.
I'm glad you introduced your wife to one of the Greatest Bands of all time. With my all time favorite drummer the late great John Bonham and one of the greatest guitarist of all time Jimmy Page..
I never comment on line... but love watching younger people enjoying LZ for the first time... your good lady will enjoy all their music... and I’m glad you like ‘Yes’... another great artist.. I’m old(66.. a geezer).. I saw LZ in 1975... I saw ‘Yes’ a few times as well... and just about every band you could imagine.. just a few.. LZ,Queen,Yes,ZZ Top, Kiss,Black Sabbath, the Stones,.. and on and on... and I’m glad you explained why music was real and live in the 60’s through the 80’s... 👍😁
Welcome to the wonderful world of Led Zeppelin! I always thought this song is one of the best pure rock and roll songs of all time. Led Zeppelin pushed the boundaries of music in a number of directions. Enjoy the journey!
*Todd* OK...... "after" watching your wife's response and her request to see them live, *PLEASE* *PLEASE* *PLEASE* show her *LIVE* "The song remains the same/Rain song from the 1973 Madison Square Garden" concert.! My reason bro, she will see the hard charging instruments and Robert in The Song remains the same and then..... the melodic sounds of The Rain Song interspersed with clips of "Roberts fantasy segment" from the movie The song remains the same.! You GOTTA DO IT BRO.! IT WILL SHOW HER EVERYTHING.! Case closed, G.O.A.T. band forever.! Trust and "Old Head" on this..... *David* .....
When I was growing up with this music as a young teenager I did not realize how special and talented this band was to be able to create the myriad of sounds they played and their ability to connect it to your emotions of real life drama such as this song about making love. Now that I am older and I can draw a comparison between todays music and Led Zeppelins music back in the day, 50 years ago, I have a whole new appreciation and understanding of how truly great they were. Loved your comments. Thanks for helping to keep music like this alive.
You have to listen to their song You Shook Me. Robert Plant’s voice at it’s best. Jimmy Page is one of the the top 10 guitarist of all time. And Bonzo on drums is always incredible.
Zep has a lot of "heartbreak" songs just like the Blues, which inspired their music. Dee, first off, great to meet you and welcome to the Zep family. Second, the instrument that was playing with the percussion during the middle part is something called a Theremin. It looks like an aerial and creates oscillating tones depending how close/far your hand is to it and the pitch is controlled by a dial on a console. One of the many things Zep is known for is their insane ability to improvise throughout a song. They never played a song the same way twice in concert. As far as watching a live performance, different TH-camrs seem to be able to post them more often these days (don't quote me on that, though) so perhaps you'll both get to watch one.
Joe Bonamassa has done some work with the Theremin in recent times. Its a trip to watch him play it with, as you have described, the placement of his hand within the vicinity of this instrument. I did not know a Theremin was used in this song, thanks for bringing that to light.
@@glennburch1081 Hi Glenn, nice to meet you. Believe it or not, the Beach Boys have a Theremin on their song Good Vibrations, which was released in 1966. It is definitely a different, other-worldly sound and was often used to create eerie sound effects for sci-fi movies back in the day.
It's tough to watch some live Led Zeppelin because of what the great man above described. They do it differently every time... That's one of the reasonsy parents and I don't love the live all the time. We love the studio recordings.... This may be the best rock song ever done!!!! Still my fave is No Quarter by them.... It is less a rock song and more bluesy.... Or I'm not sure... Hard rock... This is the best ever done!
Remember.. this is 1969… experimentation in music and recording was everywhere… it was an exciting time. Stereophonic records and equipment was really introduced in the early 60’s on a mass scale. We listened to music on little tinny transistor radios with one earpiece plugged in if we were lucky.
Saw Zep live in 69 at Newport RI , I was stage front , my ears are still ringing ! This was a few weeks before Woodstock , lots of rain and many great acts ! Also many thousands of people .
No. Thats worst advice. When one listens so clisely you are hearing too much into the edits and such. Two channel stero. Not computer speakers is the way Zep is suppose to be listened to.
Absolutely watch this one live now that y'all did the studio version. It'll give your wife the visual now and she'll see how the good ol' bands performed as well. Live performance from 73' MSG.
Exactly what I came here to say. That performance is one of the best you'll ever see. That's my go-to suggestion for anyone wanting to experience Led Zeppelin live.
Your lovely wife must must see them live. Yes I absolutely agree with her. "Since loving you", "Dazed and Confused" live. She'll be blown away with how there's only 3 musicians and 1 singer...and let's not forget the violin Bow 😂ssshhhh, don't tell her, it's a secret 😂
Chod, you got it so right from the start of the channel, audio first - no videos. Giving just the music a chance to weave it's magic first, the way it was first intended and where the artists had put all their creativity and time. Live performances are a whole different experience again, and another great way to connect, but still more enjoyable if you've already absorbed the music. All the rest is just marketing, even official promo videos rarely offer any new insight, they may offer an interesting take and be an artform in their own right, but they're more often than not just a complete distraction from the heart of the music. Love your channel Chod, and your enthusiasm, eclecticism and open mindedness.
Your wife makes a good point. You can hear all the instruments equally as opposed to some sound as background sound. Jimmy Page said that Led Zeppelin's music is like that.
YES was my very first concert in 1979. They played on a 3 tiered, rotating stage. I saw them in a smaller arena (8k) and was right on top of the band it felt. AMAZING. Especially as a 17-year-old kid at his first concert.
Absolutely right. Robert Plant can sing like nobody’s business. But each member of the band can play their instruments just as well. And none of them have egos too big (with each other) to keep the others from showing how good they are.
Now, for a real treat, try listening to the song that Zeppelin snagged this from. It's called " You need lovin' " by the Small Faces. Robert Plant was a Faces groupie and he took almost all Steve Marriott's vocal stylings verbatim. The similarity's will drop your jaw.🤠👌
your wife should hear it again with headphones on so she gets the experience of the music moving from ear to ear. Also show her a live recording for the full experience.
Want to emphasize your point: when we got these albums, they produced pre-recorded MUSIC. The live albums were few and far between. My friend and I used to have to stay up way past our bedtimes (we were in college and working nearly full time as well) to see Led Zeppelin's THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME at the MIDNIGHT MOVIES, which started at - midnight - and ended after 2AM. That's IT for a live experience. Even John Lennon claimed he was a "record man," and preferred records over live performances of the artists he listened to. So good on you for listening to the studio versions first.
If she's this excited I would love to see her reaction with headphones 🎧. Sorry Chod even if that means you have to sit next to her in silence and watch.
Stairway from MSG. Dee has to hear that all time classic. THEN you can show her HEART's great version. THEN Kashmir from Celebration Day live concert to prove the old guys still can rock their asses off. Welcome Dee to the Led Zep rabbit hole. ENJOY and RockOn!
good call on the live vs studio debate. not only for the reasons mentioned but also you can see just how much they improvise in concert. they never played the same song twice, their live shows were totally dependent on how they felt that particular day. one thing I find amazing is how one member can just take off on their own improvised direction and the rest of the band just immediately follows flawlessly. note: if you really want to experience zep like us old fogies' did you can forget about cd's and downloads and go straight to vinyl.
I think the band's 'bad relationship' lyrics at this time, often reflect themes that are found in the blues. They did later write more from personal experience, but not much at this stage (LZII album). There is a song on the album, a quieter ballad style song, called 'Thank You' that Robert Plant wrote for his wife.
Dude you have to show her live Zeppelin. Even if you don't show it on the screen . There are certain bands that are best live. They are so damn good live,They are showmen. They bleed cool, Deep purple and Black Sabbath and Fleetwood Mac are others best live. I think you should add more of your wife Dee to your reactions. I think her name is Dee, when you say her name it does not sound very clear. Keep up the good work, you two are cool together. KEEP ROCKIN
Welcome back to Led Zep! Try 'What Is And What Should Never Be' next - a whole new flavour of Zep. It will blow your mind. Think of a bass led, coolest track of all time with Robert Plant singing like a hippy crooner!
I grew up during the 60 - 70s. I heard the studio versions first. I think that should be your first exposure, so you can focus on the sound. Later, you can place faces to the sounds in a live performance. I don't think I've ever heard a "bad" Led Zeppelin song, but definitely she should hear -Heartbreaker, in my time of dying, black dog. Never mind, there are too many to list. Just go with every album, one by one. It will take some time, but it will be worth it!!!
Nice, smart reaction by your wife. As Wilburn probly knows, guitarist Jimmy Page produced many sounds effects by overdubbing. On this song, the theremin made some of the most unusual sounds. But at the core, all four band members were masters at their craft.
The middle section was not the guitar. Jimmy Page has a crazy electronic device called a Theremin that he manipulates his hand next to it , without touching it, and it does some crazy electronic noise feedback, and that’s what you hear. There are videos out there you can see him use it. It’s not one of my favorite sounds, but he sure uses it in a cool way. Trippy for sure.
Man, ya should have started her out with Kashmir!! Led Zeppelin is my all time favorite band. I love most any song by them, but, Kashmir is my ultimate favorite song of ALL time!! Stairway to Heaven (which was the first song I remember hearing of theirs, in 1976, when I was 12, and the one that got me hooked on them) was my fave for many years, then I heard Kashmir and that was it, and has been my fave since! My other Led Zep faves are Dazed and Confused, Ramble On, Immigrant Song, Whole Lotta Love, All of My Love and The Song Remains the Same.
You've got to let Dee see the live performance of this song, just for her to get some perspective on the sound. Also some slower tracks, you know, "Since I've Been Loving You" and "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" just to show her the range of this band's repertoire. [You probs had these lined up anyway]. Good reaction though. Dee has been Zepped!!! lol
I see you haven't checked out the live MSG 73 version of "Dazed and Confused" yet. You two should check it out together. It's nearly half an hour, but it is iconic in rock history, without a doubt. Don't miss out!
She needs headphones...after 1st album Zeppelin was well known...but when this dropped people when nuts! This song changed everything! It was nothing we have ever heard!
It's really not repetitive. This song actually has a story line and it's all the act of lovemaking from beginning to finish. There was a thing such as censorship, and unlike today, they couldn't just come out and say it. It had to be subtly suggested and acted out through music and suggestive lyrics. With that in mind, give the song another listen.
Another Great reaction Chod and since your other top band is Yes try your Wife with The lighter Yes songs such as 'Time and a Word', 'I've Seen all good People' or 'Soon' this track is so, so Beautiful though not actually a single only the ending piece to the long track 'Gates of Delirium'😊❤
Great reaction. This song is basically a cover of "You need love" By Muddy Waters the biggest blues legend. I'd love to watch you reacting to the original. A couple more songs for you: Little Walter "Confessing the Blues" And "Moaning at midnight" By Howling Wolf.
I always see their layers when any of their songs come on. Not for nothing when you can put your voice up against an instrument and your audience can't tell if it's your voice or the instrument
If Yes is your favorite band, you must like Progressive Rock. I love Yes and Rush. I recommend checking out Camel. Trust me; start out with "Lunar Sea" (Lunacy) off the "Moodmadness" album. Also recommend the albums "Mirage" and "Flight of the Snowgoose"
Context is everything and anyone who was anybody(!) back then was into experiencing psychedelics and cannabis. ("All the squares go home!"-Cynthia Robinson) Most genres of music were positively affected by that culture. Psychedelic Music this is!
This was the remastered version, which makes it easy to hear what they were doing. Which was a lot. The guitar can definitely make that sound (like a car or airplane) if your name is Jimmy Page and you know how to use that pick to slide down the string. I never could reproduce it like that, but my name is not Jimmy.
Thank goodness the Mother ship album does not get blocked. Live also. I think Kashmir live from Celebration Day performance would be interesting to her.
There are only four guys, and one of them only plays the tambourine. I wonder if your wife is a poker player, because she certainly doesn’t say much with her facial expressions. How can anyone sit through this song without moving, swaying, head bobbing, something, anything. Love it. 😂❤️✌🏼😎
You're not getting the full effect without wearing headphones, especially with this song.
We didn't have headphones on our family stereo when this song came out so I sat on the floor and put my head between the speakers. Lol !
Don’t know whether this has been mentioned before but You really need earphones to hear all Led Zeppelin has to offer. The studio version allows them to layer the instruments. You can’t get that live. But they are incredible live.
He's a muso so he probably has studio monitors which are (almost) as good
We used to stand someone up in the middle of the room with headphones on and eyes closed.
Eventually they would start swaying and we'd have to catch them before they fall down.
It literally is mentioned so often that you just need scroll one comment above yours to answer your own question.
I'm glad you introduced your wife to one of the Greatest Bands of all time.

Remember LED represents the heavy side and ZEPPELIN represents the light side for those who didn't know. 😊🎸☮️💕
Welcome to the wonderful world of Led Zeppelin! I always thought this song is one of the best pure rock and roll songs of all time. Led Zeppelin pushed the boundaries of music in a number of directions. Enjoy the journey!
I became addicted to Led Zeppelin over 50 years ago hearing their first album. Robert Plant is so distinctive with his voice.

You need headphones or earbuds to properly appreciate LZ and hear the music going from ear to ear in this track.
I'd say some decent over-ear headphones, or some half decent amplified speakers. Even the best earbuds don't really cut it. :)
No. Thats worst advice. When one listens so clisely you are hearing too much into the edits and such. Two channel stero. Not computer speakers is the way Zep is suppose to be listened to.

Yes yes yes
WEAR HEADPHONES!!!!! it's good to have a supportive wife, btw.
Yeah, headphones make it a whole different experience.
Show her "Since I´ve Been Loving You" live from MSG. "Ten Years Gone", my favorite, is basically a break up song, kinda.
Exactly what I came here to say. That performance is one of the best you'll ever see. That's my go-to suggestion for anyone wanting to experience Led Zeppelin live.
Yes! Either “Since I’ve Been Loving You” or “Stairway“ LIVE!
Led Zeppelin was the very first concert I went to back in 1969. Of course this song was a great 15 plus minute long version, awesome.
I was a teenager in those days. Brings back good memories. A great rock classic! 🎸🎸🎶🎶💕💕

nobody can deny the mighty Zep! engineered by pure ingenuity and made to last
Play her "In My Time of Dying" next? The studio version is fantastic but there is also a great live version.
"You've just been Zepped." 😆 Everbody should be Zepped.
Girl, you are so right!! The lead singer, Rbert Plant, always famously said he used his voice as an instrument!!!
Whole Lotta Love live would be an excellent next step. Any Zeppelin of any kind, I’m sure she’ll love for the reasons she cited.
YES was my very first concert in 1979. They played on a 3 tiered, rotating stage. I saw them in a smaller arena (8k) and was right on top of the band it felt. AMAZING. Especially as a 17-year-old kid at his first concert.
She deserves good headphones 🎧
How can you let your wife listen to this for the first time... without headphones?!?! She will have missed so much. :)
Absolutely right. Robert Plant can sing like nobody’s business. But each member of the band can play their instruments just as well. And none of them have egos too big (with each other) to keep the others from showing how good they are.

Rock of ages , ahead of time !!! even today's kids can't reach this level of hysteria listening this master piece .
You have to respect Led Zeppelin! What a clear and truthful statement ♥️🤘
I chose to feel respect and head over heel-love ☺️
This sounded so good. A lot of people were on acid when they went to the concerts. Thank you

good call on the live vs studio debate. not only for the reasons mentioned but also you can see just how much they improvise in concert. they never played the same song twice, their live shows were totally dependent on how they felt that particular day. one thing I find amazing is how one member can just take off on their own improvised direction and the rest of the band just immediately follows flawlessly.

You opened with this one? Ballsy … maybe Babe I’m Gonna Leave You … Going California … The Rain Song
Dear Lady, there was only three instruments in that song. Bass, Drums, Guitar. The GOATS!
No, there was also a theremin.

I really dig these dual reactions. So much fun to get the different viewpoints.
I would suggest the live version of "Since I've Been Loving You" from the Madison Square Garden concert in 1973
How can you listen to Led Zeppelin without headphones?
Welcome back to Led Zep! Try 'What Is And What Should Never Be' next - a whole new flavour of Zep. It will blow your mind. Think of a bass led, coolest track of all time with Robert Plant singing like a hippy crooner!
Nice to see that she felt the "hook" was the driving force in the song with the greatest hook of all time.
I grew up during the 60 - 70s. I heard the studio versions first. I think that should be your first exposure, so you can focus on the sound. Later, you can place faces to the sounds in a live performance.

73 Garden Concert....the GOATS!
🎶LED ZEPPELIN ~ FOOL IN THE RAIN🎶
NO ONE SITS THROUGH THIS WITHOUT MOVING EXCEPT THIS WOMAN !
Hope your wife likes them as much as you do!
This is a great LZ song but their live version from MSG took it to the next level
The greatest album-opening riff/song in the annals of rock!
Best Rock n Roll song ever done!!!!
She should play poker
Hey guys! Do you know what time it is? It's time to get The Led out!!!😎
You've got to let Dee see the live performance of this song, just for her to get some perspective on the sound. Also some slower tracks, you know, "Since I've Been Loving You" and "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" just to show her the range of this band's repertoire. [You probs had these lined up anyway]. I see you haven't checked out the live MSG 73 version of "Dazed and Confused" yet. You two should check it out together. It's nearly half an hour, but it is iconic in rock history, without a doubt. Don't miss out!
One of the greatest songs of all time.
She needs headphones...after 1st album Zeppelin was well known...but when this dropped people when nuts! This song changed everything! It was nothing we have ever heard!
Jimmy Page used a violin bow on his guitar to produce some of the great sounds on this track.
The eyebrows go up slowly and inquisitively after Plant’s first vocal line. Just wait....😆
Please show her Since I’ve Been Loving you live at Madison Square Garden 1973
One of the top 3 rock songs of all time
It's really not repetitive. This song actually has a story line and it's all the act of lovemaking from beginning to finish. There was a thing such as censorship, and unlike today, they couldn't just come out and say it. It had to be subtly suggested and acted out through music and suggestive lyrics. Great T-shirt Chod. He's my all-time favorite.

Awesome reaction ! .... check the Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin if you haven't already .. it's da bomb .. When the Levee Breaks is also cool 😎
Sir Wiburn, you're obviously a badass drummer!!!
I always see their layers when any of their songs come on. Not for nothing when you can put your voice up against an instrument and your audience can't tell if it's your voice or the instrument
Wow, I haven't heard that in a few years!!! I saw Page & Plant at the Gorge in '94⚡️
Give her some Ten Years After "I'd Love to Change the World". I think both of you would enjoy that
Violin bow was used by Jimmy Page for that spacey sound.
Communication Breakdown off of the first album is a must listen to song!
LOL. "I can't catch myself". Chod play her some Rush!!! That could be amazing!!! 🤣🤣
Great song, best heard thru headphones and loud
Led Zeppelin was my favorite band too, until YES one day became my favorite. Led Zeppelin is awesome, but YES is magical.
Wow yes over Zep well ok you do you ;)
No yes without zepp
@@ace77123 I greatly prefer Prog Rock over Rock. Zep did play a little Prog at times though, like in this piece for instance 🙂
@@lucasvalcourt9215 why do you say that?
@@Lightmane zepp opened the door for all bands that followed imo
OK Chod! You need to show her the live video with Plant at his rock god best! 😍
HEADPHONES FOR THE LADY! Best way to appreciate the strep effects of this high quality sound.
Todd's a rock n' roller, I knew it.
Zeplin, Rock Gods...
Todd, exactly Led Zeppelin is definitely a 10!
never get tired of that RIP John alohA ps please try budgie in for the kill
If you can find the isolated drum track on here, y'all HAVE to give it a listen.
STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN 🥰
This was the remastered version, which makes it easy to hear what they were doing. Which was a lot. The guitar can definitely make that sound (like a car or airplane) if your name is Jimmy Page and you know how to use that pick to slide down the string. I never could reproduce it like that, but my name is not Jimmy.
Thank goodness the Mother ship album does not get blocked. Live also. I think Kashmir live from Celebration Day performance would be interesting to her.
Have to listen to in stereo with a lot of speakers this song came out when stereo was invented as an option over mono
Yea, clearly she’s a whole lotta fun.
I can't believe you listened to that without earbuds!
First intro to led zeppelin for a woman should be a video of them on stage
There are only four guys, and one of them only plays the tambourine.
I wonder if your wife is a poker player, because she certainly doesn’t say much with her facial expressions. How can anyone sit through this song without moving, swaying, head bobbing, something, anything. Love it. 😂❤️✌🏼😎
