You should try playing it. Take the Organized trait, a Strength trait, and just try to survive a full day. Then try to survive a week. You'll learn what to prioritized pretty quick. Also, play the tutorial and do a beginner guide.
Haha! 😂 I get you. I was just thinking today that I should start a challenge run like the RV Nomad, because I end up hoarding so much stuff, I have to move base just to get new shelf-space, then before I even set up a proper loot room and armory I already go around looting for more stuff. Honestly, I'd need a group of about a dozen starving survivors, so I could give them some of my stuff, because I just have too much of everything for one character to use it all up, even if I lock him in the main base until they release B42, when I'll be forced to start a new game. Might be a good challenge for you to try and decide between loot or life. The game isn't too expensive, and you can always ask for a refund on Steam if you have less than 2h game-time, so if you think you might love it, I'd give it a try. I was on the ropes as well when I was just looking at the videos, but I fell in love with this game right away. Plus there are so many mods at this point, that coupled with the many settings you can change in Sandbox mode (custom game setup), that you can really tailor the game to your specific wishes.
@@Sheldezare Yep, at over 400 items you'll start to lag, by 3000 items, PZ spaghetti code kicks in and the game turns into an isometric slideshow. This can be done in base game by stacking cigarettes into your inventory since they weigh nothing. Apparently one of my friends has never experienced this bug, but he's the exception among our friend group. Literally everyone else gets lag the more they're carrying, and I think that's why the soft cap of 50kg carry is in place. As for the mods, Cheat Menu RB in single player can give you infinite carry weight while keeping you mortal. Using admin powers on a server and keeping only the Unlimited Carry power works the same.
So I went and tried this challenge. 90% of the time it would spawn me in Louisville. And I would spend most of the time running away. It is much harder, since most of the time when it is not random. You would already have a plan where to go and were to get weapons. With this challenge you have to figure out where you are first. And if you spawn in Louisville, it makes it a lot harder.
Rename containers mod is great for organizing crap. A very cheesy mod is RV interior. Specifically using it for Vans, It's a three long by two wide by three high area for crates, mini fridge, water dispenser, antique oven, and I have a sleeping bag on the floor so you can walk over it. If you find a box truck, it's a lot more space for anything you can possibly think you might need, especially the f700 box truck.
Honestly not sure why people are giving you shit over the *completely understandable* frustration with PZ's current state. It's not normal for a game to take *several years* between updates. Let alone to take several years between *taking out a functional system to out a broken one part way in,* and finishing the new, broken system. "But they're a small team!" Who claim to be working on the game full time, with said game having a massive playerbase. One that would be bigger if they made progress on the game. The game is good, but when the devs tease people along for years with half broken systems and incomplete implementation of other systems, and a trend of radio silence only broken by updates of videos and pictures? Being angry and frustration *is* normal. Heck, it might even be good, since there's not really much pressure on the devs to get the game out before they die because of the fandom refusing to allow people to voice frustrations.
@@DBZHGWgamer while you do have a point here, progress updates used to be bi-weekly, or at least more frequent than once a month. And at the end of the day, they're still reporting in on what is vaporware. None of us have touched it yet, and the quantity of half-baked systems like the aforementioned foraging kind of dampen the optimism of _complete_ features in B42. We're meant to wait X years for the scope-creeped full package of B42 to get dumped on us because all the devs that aren't hired from the community have never heard of branches in coding, much less forking code. Instead we get like, a year of apparently finished game improvements that they are sitting on for B42. With the same rehashed points in progress updates for the most part, the non-content may as well be radio silence. I'll never understand why they can't just give us 42-Lite with the little that _does_ look finished like better lighting and some performance fixes, and maybe the skyscraper part of Z-levels since they're still hashing out basements at the time of writing. Throw in someone motivated to spend an afternoon or two adding more foraging zones manually, since the automatic system is still under testing, and you have like, half of the objective, nobody-doubts-it improvements to everyone's gameplay while they continue to work on crafting, animals, etc. that require a lot of human decisionmaking and a bit of design by committee.
I totally agree with you but it seems that we are in a minority. There is another obvious example of an indie game which was not 'overdeveloped' called RimWorld. The game was released pretty basic and all additional functional were added as DLCs. So I don't know why PZ developers hesitate to go the same rode.
I honestly don't know what's their deal. The dev team has been asked on several occasions to come up with a way where players who have spent 1000s of hours in this game for which barely spent any money could support the development in other ways than just buying new copies of it, but they always refused. Without the many mods, especially some essential QoL ones, I imagine the number of people spending so much time playing PZ would be drastically lower. And that to me almost feels like a lazy way to develop a game; refusing to put development into next gear, but at the same time being unable (or unwilling) to present it in realistic timelines. (some players legit thought B42 is going to be out in December 2023) With that said I think it's not only good, but *essential* to voice these frustrations. At the bare minimum because there are so many mods, that I have seen it many times where players would say: "I love this game, but X is really frustrating me." And another player would just point them to a mod that solves X. The other reason is to let the devs know that even tho we love their game and all, we don't like this BS and that they should be thankful to the dedicated modders that keep this game from losing players.
@@Pancake_Nix Expanding the dev team comes with its own set of risks. Specifically the game becomes much more dependent on constantly producing profit which means a greater proportion of dev time goes to generating revenue efficiently which risks sucking the life out of the game. Have some patience. It's not like the game punishes you for taking a break.
I just stumbled on this video whole scrolling through my recommended. I had only a surface level understanding on what this game was. I had no idea zomboid was this detailed. Also this video was excellent subbed and liked within 5 minues.

7:55 you might not remember it, but the old forging system was also not covering the entire map. Only wooded areas and not all of them at that. Like if you find some woods where current foraging is not working - the old foraging would not have been working there either. Being able to forage along most roads and in towns is a thing only the new foraging system allows you to do. And sure it sucks that some areas are not set up properly. But new foraging is still a clear improvement over the old one. Besides in build 42 they announced an extra system that will detect the gaps between predefined foraging zones and fill them in. So that frustration would not be an issue anymore. And in the meantime there is a mod that fills the entire vanilla map with foraging zones for us to use.
No mods fill the water adjacent tiles, they're considered dead zones as far as forage goes. Maybe if water-based plants get introduced for crafting purposes the devs can fix those too.
I completely understand the reason behind the skybridge tactic in Louisville, but for me personally I find the set up way to tedious to do. I just drive near my poi, usually a block or so away, then crouch walk there. You’ll always have zombies that crowd your car but if you give it about 6-10 in game hours most have usually wandered off.
If you can bait Zombies into walking over a hole with spears in it, or a Mall Skylight, could you maybe build a 'dog leg' into a skybridge to see if their tracking would make them do the same thing? A 90-degree right turn, 3 plank-lengths & a left turn, another 3 plank-lengths & a left turn, then 3 plank lengths and a right turn to put you back on the path you started. Would Zombies navigate the path, or just follow direct pathing to YOU and drop off the Skybridge?
I tried this one time, I got decently far, until I decided to take on a horde, 3 boxes of shotgun shells, 2 boxes of 5.56 rounds later and 1 fire axe and half a hand axe later I died because I over exerted myself and couldn’t swing anymore. I died because I swung to much and couldn’t escape the mess I made :(
I jokingly have started telling my friends that it will be next week. Which we are all in the gag. Someone in the group will go "Any news on build 42 yet?" "Next week. Totally"
I mean mr ballen would have a great chance of living in a zombie apocalypses me thinks, an ex marine who is into the strange, dark and mysterious sounds like great qualifiers.

33:49 the thing about those jokes isn't that they're offensive as it's a gallows sort of humor, but the fact one can never make them during the American school year because it's always going to be "too soon"
As a resident snoop dog I indeed settled in for the day. ;] The only way I could do this run is with jigga's Green Fire mod and the I don't need a lighter stove mod.
it helps with aiming if the cursor is actually on the target instead of behind them. with your shooting level you could be hitting all headshots if you just clicked on the enemy
Most water-adjacent tiles won't have foraging enabled. Tbh there's also nothing really interesting to find there so eh. Personally think this system is better than the prior 'sit on your ass on one tile and magically conjure items out of thin air and wishful thinking' method they had before. Now just gotta make sure everything has an actual forage area.. -- Zombie loot is overall going to exceed location loot, specially on 4x. You can literally get hundreds of tools, weapons and food items off zombies by doing a single mall. I know since I usually do the cabin start near Valley Station mall area and cleaning up the place takes about 2-3mo and nets me enough stuff to lag for 10sec when trying to apply a bandage. It's wild even with loot reduction mods and the best avenue for getting useful stuff.
7:10 Don't worry I don't know a damn thing about the game and will never pretend to nor question much of anything, so in the case you say you can go deep ocean speer fishing I will likely just believe you. 👍
1:15:00 "Broke after less than 2 days of use" That kinda tracks, seeing as it's 1) An M16, not an M4, and 2) Even in-use service rifles are rarely fired for more than a few bursts at a time. They are most certainly not fired constantly for several hours on end.
yeah no, guns don't just instantly break after having like 2000 rounds put through them, even if they are "fired constantly for hours on end" you certainly see wear and tear on the internals, but unless it was made by a guy in his shed, you could just take it apart and clean the damn thing.
The US military would never in a million years use a weapon that completely fucking dies after two days of use lmao. In fact that's only ever applicable to the HI POINT. The point of a service weapon is to be reliable and stay reliable for a long time. If your gun breaks after firing it a little tiny bit, then you got your gun off of Temu.
@@yodamorpheus3128 It's hardly like the guns in Zomboid are hot off of the assembly line. Who knows how many rounds the previous owners had already put through it? Especially if it was off of the corpse of a military personnel, they likely already fired 4x that many shots before they got zombified.

You should try playing it. Take the Organized trait, a Strength trait, and just try to survive a full day. Then try to survive a week. You'll learn what to prioritized pretty quick. Also, play the tutorial and do a beginner guide.
Haha! 😂
I get you.
Pretty sure the RV mod would break the rules of the challenge.
Honestly not sure why people are giving you shit over the *completely understandable* frustration with PZ's current state.
It's not normal for a game to take *several years* between updates. Let alone to take several years between *taking out a functional system to out a broken one part way in,* and finishing the new, broken system.
"But they're a small team!"
Who claim to be working on the game full time, with said game having a massive playerbase.
You're contradicting yourself here. Regularly releasing progress updates every month for years is not radio silence.
(some players legit thought B42 is going to be out in December 2023)
With that said I think it's not only good, but *essential* to voice these frustrations. At the bare minimum because there are so many mods, that I have seen it many times where players would say:
"I love this game, but X is really frustrating me."
And another player would just point them to a mod that solves X.
Dude I freaked out when you mentioned Kent state, I'm a student there currently haha
Wow crazy. Kent sucks anyways
14:15 these are called survivor vehicles, they’re supposed to be cars left by other survivors
Yes was about to comment this.😂
Dang you're so good at this game. Minor scratches here and there but i salute you sir
I was literally JUST looking for some longer PZ video with some good challenge!!! Perfect timing ^^
“The M16 broke after two days of using it”
*sad Stoner noises followed by the shuffling sound of rolling underneath soil*
Goodbye that character's ears when he fired the 12 gage in a cinderblock hallway. Yikes.
Most satisfying part of this video was stacking the cardboard boxes into rows. A safe base is an orderly base.
I'm not sure what compelled me to watch this as I've never played project zomboid and never watched any other project zomboid content, but I'm really glad I did. This was very informative, entertaining, and approachable for someone who knows nothing about the game. I'll definitely be checking out the other parts
Trouble with this type of game is the suburbs. You could clear out a neighborhood in an afternoon, and there would be no humans in a 50 mile radius
those cars you mentioned at 14:22 are supposed to be pz lore. they are survivor cars, it says so in the pz server settings
"The Kardashian approach and entering theough the back door" is wild lmao
the song at 31:37 is “reborn” by roonin in case anyone wanted to know
7:55 you might not remember it, but the old forging system was also not covering the entire map.
Since the 1000 days challenge i missed your gameplays, thankly you are back! Appreciate the awesome videos.
I just don't enjoy zomboid without respawns being turned off
True!
42:39 "well."👍
i was looking for any mention of this 😂
14:56 to 15:53 was so satisfying with the beats to the music
As your local editorman, I thank you
@@LittleFlame23 what song was used in that part
If you can bait Zombies into walking over a hole with spears in it, or a Mall Skylight, could you maybe build a 'dog leg' into a skybridge to see if their tracking would make them do the same thing? A 90-degree right turn, 3 plank-lengths & a left turn, another 3 plank-lengths & a left turn, then 3 plank lengths and a right turn to put you back on the path you started. Would Zombies navigate the path, or just follow direct pathing to YOU and drop off the Skybridge?
4 minutes ago is crazy, excited to see what he cooks up :D
Glad he’s 0:28 doing this challenge cause I haven’t seen it in a while but liked watching other TH-camrs do it
stuff like the mall burning down is exactly why i never use fire in PZ, i like it when my much needed loot isn't reduced to ash
I tried this one time, I got decently far, until I decided to take on a horde, 3 boxes of shotgun shells, 2 boxes of 5.56 rounds later and 1 fire axe and half a hand axe later I died because I over exerted myself and couldn’t swing anymore. I died because I swung to much and couldn’t escape the mess I made :(
1:15:12 honestly 5-6 shots to kill a moving target sounds about right in terms of realism.
Bourbon in a zombie apocalypse sounds like my kinda of world ending scenario
Oh, this looks like pain. I'll have to try this when I knock off the rust of Stock PZ.
Since the foraging system is being reworked for 42 (god knows when 42 will come out), I don't mind it anymore *shrug*
“Keep.. my..Build 42.. out.. of your FUCKING MOUTH”
-Lemmy probably
I jokingly have started telling my friends that it will be next week. Which we are all in the gag.
Someone in the group will go "Any news on build 42 yet?"
"Next week. Totally"
@@aiedenoldstien9751 Feels like what the Tarkov community does with their wipes LOL, Thursday! Wipe is Thursday!
I've got information 42 comes out in 42 weeks
This is impressive, not to mention the time and effort it took to make this, and edit it afterwards. Respect to you Steamy Ray Vaughan!
I mean mr ballen would have a great chance of living in a zombie apocalypses me thinks, an ex marine who is into the strange, dark and mysterious sounds like great qualifiers.
Lol at the synced up music around 15:45
“Let’s go fuck up the 7/11 across the street.” I thought you were gonna drive into the gas pump
42:35 "we're gonna have to deal with fatigue....... WO-!"
Surprised to see A One Painful Year Challenge after so long, last one I watched was in like 2022. Nice to watch another one after so long, hopefully once 42 drops there'll be more to watch.
Genuine top shelf zomboid content
Top shelf pfp, amazing manga
Punpun my beloved
32:00 that shotgun dirty as fuck after all that
the most entertaining start i had was intentionally spawning in a military surplus store with 4x zombie pop. the first few tries i had on that i died cos i had sprinters enabled and they suck
33:49 the thing about those jokes isn't that they're offensive as it's a gallows sort of humor, but the fact one can never make them during the American school year because it's always going to be "too soon"
I appreciate you doing your best to line up crowbar hits with the background music!
As a resident snoop dog I indeed settled in for the day. ;] The only way I could do this run is with jigga's Green Fire mod and the I don't need a lighter stove mod.
lmao the fire refrence "not gonna be no fire not today"
Took less than 8 minutes for a full-blown rant. Wooooo
2:10 newer games like dying light *cries in old*
wow I've almost done this, before I started modding I got pretty good at the vanilla game.... but starting 6 months in..... that's
brutal man
it helps with aiming if the cursor is actually on the target instead of behind them. with your shooting level you could be hitting all headshots if you just clicked on the enemy
--
Zombie loot is overall going to exceed location loot, specially on 4x.
Watched some zomb videos b4. Looks like an interesting game. The background song early in the video is golden. Cool ass beats
This challenge + calm before the storm seems fun.
1:15:00 "Broke after less than 2 days of use"
That kinda tracks, seeing as it's 1) An M16, not an M4, and 2) Even in-use service rifles are rarely fired for more than a few bursts at a time. They are most certainly not fired constantly for several hours on end.
Also note that ‘military grade’ is an indicator of quality, but not of good quality.
@@WarlockLov3 Ease of use and low of cost. o7
yeah no, guns don't just instantly break after having like 2000 rounds put through them, even if they are "fired constantly for hours on end" you certainly see wear and tear on the internals, but unless it was made by a guy in his shed, you could just take it apart and clean the damn thing.
"after taking kardashian approach and entering through the backdoor" lmao
Thanks for the excellent new video Predz! I always enjoy long form videos like this.
Imagine being the one who lives in the house at the beginning… Oh what a lovely day, OH GOD!
Zomboid, so many realistic factors...
Then.... Sky deck.
15 OJ knives is wild lololololol
the funny thing is theres a warehouse north of you. but mil base is def a dub
I'm surprised you couldn't find one of those huge living rooms on the coast to sleep in. Sometimes big rooms don't trigger claustrophobia
My ADHD cant remember all those rules ! But looks lime a Fun Painful Year
Lol that warehouse is one of my favorite base locations
Killing those zombies to the beat was hilarious
Day 10: yeah im yonna build up these defenses
Day 43: the loading bay was overrun again
ah knew the defenses wouldnt have happened yet but anyway I think you did what you could
Okay now i have an argument to make my friends play pz with me again, thank you
I was expecting you to die with a video of 1 hour and a half lol
Liked it very much! keep going!!
This video was great! Thanks to the almighty algorithm it’s how I found your channel. My only regret is that I need to wait for the next episode
And just like liberating Louisville, you burned the mall 😅
Mechanically, I think the new foraging system is better though it would be great to have at least most of the map covered
and here's me barely able to survive 3 days or fight more than 3 zeds at a time
once you commented on your guy looking like Mr Ballen, i knew he’d survive
PZ really need to make the zeds more dangerous, walking throught them and not be allowed to grab you or walk a little faster than them really make them clowns.
I've never found a car that's as beautifully green as that, no matter the time I start. I only have like a few hundred hours tho so I'm still a complete noob.
Grabbed your kurt cobain killer?
Didn't realise Courtney was an in game item
Thanks so much. I love your zomboid play throughs I've watched the louisville series and long play multiple times. I will probably watch these a bunch too. keep it up. also great music as always
Clearly a fan of the strange, dark and mysterious
A fast way to explain new world on death "perma-death"
Day 43 is an all time low for all experienced pz players. Out of food and water and you have to fight to get to your stash of food lmao
I remember when you had 20k subs, love your channel man! Keep up the great work.
The Parks & Rec reference was 🤌🏽
I can’t survive more than 10 seconds in the game
i like to imagine there are some survivors somewhere else within earshot that are just like wtf is this idiot doing when people clear out zombies with guns
Yeah the moment i heard no mods i knew i would never do this challenge. I am too reliant on the Antibodies mod.
Goddammit you always burn down the mall 😂
You def earned a sub man!! Keep up the hard work bro
