    I am 68 years old. When l was a teenager back in the 1960’s, I was a magician and an escape artist. I was self taught and learned basic lockpicking. These warded locks were the first l learned to pick using this method. I also found out back then, they made the skeleton keys too wide for the key ways and had to file them to fit. Thanks for the video and a trip down memory lane. I’ve just got back into lock picking after a 40 year hiatus and really enjoy the challenge and your videos.

      Thank you for the kind words and for sharing. I also remember reading the railroads used warded locks years ago and skeleton keys were widely used out of convience

    Warded locks are fascinating, because rather than needing a specific "right" key to open, the security comes from the assumption all other keys will be made "wrong".

      That is how they are often displayed in movies but it is a misnomer.

    Nice video, but I had a question, if you wanted to have a set of keys or tools and become an omni-lockpicker of some sort, what types are recommended?
    Like, examples such as bump keys, skeletons keys, traditional lockpicking tools, etc

    • @HelpfulLockPicker
      @HelpfulLockPicker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Low skilled attacks will only get you so far so it depends on what type of locks you wanted to open. But a lock pick and tension wrench can in theory get you into a great deal of pin and tumbler locks, skeleton keys for warded locks, a good disc detainer pick for disc locks, a flag pick for dimple locks, etc.

    How about master locks that have the smaller key type with a slot only on one side? Can you make skeleton key for those?

    • @HelpfulLockPicker
      @HelpfulLockPicker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They have the small locks which take the 7k key which is a pin and tumbler lock where this would not work. I am not sure what you are referring to

    • @MrEunderhill
      @MrEunderhill ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MannyFontes1968 Master locks generally have a 3 digit code on them. That code identifies the key needed for that lock to a lock smith. So just go to a lock smith to get replacement keys.

      Thank you for checking out the video. I do giveaways from time to time but don't usually giveaway picks because of the varying laws on owning picks. You could try to make a set of picks for cheap. Also, the cheapest set you can buy is less than $4

    What a terrible design if it can be opened so easily...
    #JustTheTip

    • @HelpfulLockPicker
      @HelpfulLockPicker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is a good design for certain circumstances. These locks hardly freeze and work really well in cold environments. It is unfortunate how easily the knowing can defeat them but even the unknowing can defeat them even easier with a pair of bolt cutters. Security is always as strong as its weakest link and you just need to make sure what you are using makes sense for the application.

    • @alphacentaurilockpicking
      @alphacentaurilockpicking 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HelpfulLockPicker I do not find warded padlocks more insecure like a simple pin tumbler Master padlock. They are just as easy to pick. In case of doubt, the bolt cutter wins ... And a warded padlock can also have a nice design ... th-cam.com/video/Bl7CVAzjR5k/w-d-xo.html Thanks for the vid....have a nice week and a lot of fun. 👍😎👍
