      3s mean 11.1 volt ?? or what ??

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, a 3S (3 cell) lips is 11.1 Volts. A 2S (2 cell) is 7.4 volts. Although they charge to higher voltages or 12.6 and 8.4.

    As an electrical engineer, let me say that you got lucky that you didn't fry your ESC. While the motor & servo can handle the extra voltage with no major issues, I'm pretty sure the ESC has internal voltage regulators to drop the internal voltage from 7.4V to 5V for some IC chips and most likely a 7.4V to 3V for the programmable microcontroller chipset. While a lot of these regulators can handle a wide input voltage, not all do. I definitely wouldn't go over 12V input, that would be a real gamble lol, specially for the 3.3V regulator.

  • @JPVideos81

    That 3s definitely gives it more power, isnt 3s too much voltage for it? I read that if you go 3s that you have to use a buck converter or it will burn out the engine. How much run time did you get the with the 3s?

    • @islandluv1
      @islandluv1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm curious about this myself. I have some metal gear diffs from Remo on the way, so it should be able to handle 3s as far as the drive train goes.....the electronics on the other hand, I'm not too sure.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So far no problems from anything with the 3S lips. I normally don't run over 5 min with the 3S, but in reality that is a small 3S 1000 math pack with low discharge rating. I touched the motor and esc, both were not extremely hot.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      so far no issues with the drivetrain really, even after two packs of the 3S runs.

    • @JPVideos81
      @JPVideos81 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      so in reality this battery is only good for short sprints? its not recommended to run it out till it dies? i want to upgrade the battery, i was thinking 2200mah 25c 2s lipo.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if your using a 2S then its no different than the stock battery in terms of voltage that is. That would not be a speed upgrade, runtime only perhaps. Did you mean you wanted to use a 3S maybe?

      Yes, I used an 11.1 3S lips in this video. So it was fine. Ofcourse I don't recommend really bashing it hard with the larger voltage pack and don't go above 30C discharge rating or 2500 MAHH.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as its a 2S thats fine. But in reality running anything larger than a 2S lipo is a trial and error thing. I stick to tighter high discharge (c Rating) 2S packs or low C rating 3S packs.

    • @funwithrcars3129

      hybrid32494 there's no such thing as too high of c rating.

    • @hybrid32494

      IF the C rating (peak discharge/Continuous discharge) of the battery is more than the peak/continuous current flow that the ESC can handle, they YES!!! there is such a thing as to high of a C rating. The ESC should have a higher AMP rating than the discharge on a battery.

      it is difficult to say for sure, it was stock battery which come with Chinese 250 quadcopter. it is very weak for quad I believe that discharge rate should be low. I tired to disassemble electronic board but inside of the box all in glue. I wasn't able to reach the board yet.

I have an HSP Flying Fish. Also runs on 3S brushed, now, after a short conversion to a too heavy brushless system. And there are upgrade brushed motors rated for 13V on the chinese market, too. anyone running the 12428 needs to go ahead and pull the motor and mount out and check the 2 panhead screws that fasten the motor to the blue mount as mine were super loose, I just happens to get lucky enough to notice during a heatsink cooling fan upgrade install. having problems with the 540 motor magnetic field causing the little cooling fan to not spin properly. I have 2 types a single and a dual the dual is slightly elevated on the heatsink giving just enough distance from magnets but the single sits rite on the motor, it's set up like the castle heatsink fan with a shroud like design. I'm sure that 1 would experience the same problem. Idk maybe these single types are more ment for brushless motors as there magnets might not be as strong. idk! anyway locktight on the mount screws and check them asap! vape on!

      Wasn't sure flipping it would help but it actually did as exactly 180° on the other side there's a big spot with no magnetic field just enough in the right spot to run the fans motor at the rite rpm and still allowing the fan to sit straight

    using same gears ,motor and esc that goes good with 2s will always be more power with 3s and have higher top end... as long as the motor and esc can handle 3s...if not esc will usually fail first or just shut down if amp draw is to much... this car is plenty fast on 3s...i would try to fit a 2200 3s in it if possible... even more power if you use same quality and c rated battery... less chance of puffing batteries and longer run times...

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The basic rule for longer run times is a larger capacity battery. That means you need more MAH capacity. The stock battery is 1500 mah, you can shop for a 2000 or 2500 mah battery, that would increase run time but your overall speed would remain the same. As long as you get a 7.4 Volt 2 cell limo with larger MAH rating. Does that help you?

      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I try to reply to everyone on here, no matter what, you know, I appreciate the views and interest. The way batteries are rated today is with "C" rating, which stands for "discharge rate". Basically the higher the C rating the more juice (amps) the battery can deliver to the ESC and the esc will deliver to the motor. Generally this will result in more punch off the line and a little higher speeds. As you get a higher rated "C" lipo they also cost more. In general I stick to 30-40C, they are cheap and good enough. The included lipos are usually around 20-25 C rated btw.

      After running the 3S lipo multiple times I have not broken anything. Although I run a pretty low discharge 20-30C 1000 MAHH pack. Overall if the esc was not built to handle the higher voltage it would just not activate itself. You can check for urself on any 2S powered ESC system, a 3S won't work unless the ESC itself has the ability to handle the voltage. Hopefully thermal protection will turn on if needed.

      Yes, you are right, it did come with a LI-ON battery. That was a mistake, But in reality it does not matter because both battery types still can use the same LIPO charger and have the same balance plugs and basically work just like any LIPO battery, I usually don't differentiate between the two since they are much alike (other than shape).

      im not sure if all WL Toys Rc models can handle a 3S, but this model can. Which model are you referring to? General rules are that if the model runs a 540 size or higher motor than you can usually run a 3S because the ESC is rated for more amps and voltage. The smaller scale RC models generally do not run 3S packs.
      You can always try putting one in and trying it out slowly, If it has a built in voltage limit then it will just not operate with a 3S pack.

    • @hybrid32494

      There are two ratings on a LIPO battery, a continuous discharge rating and a peak discharge rating. This particular lipo I was using has around 25C continuous and 40C peak discharge. More expensive batteries could get to 100C peak and 50C continuous. I try to stay not more than 30C continuous to make sure my ESC/s do not get fried. Does that answer your question?

      I just looked up the FY-10, it looks totally different from this model. IT says it has a 390 size motor, not a 540 like this RC in my video. Chances are the ESC/RX unit is also different in that case. Also says it's top speed in only 30 KPH.

      honestly, I don't know. I don't think any info on max current exists on this ESC. I would say that above 30C there is no need anyway. You won't notice much of a difference, you're better off running a smaller 3S lipo for more speed than a high discharge 2S lipo.

      Yes I know it's a 2 year old comment.
      But just in case someone is trying to research about this car and battery configurations, a 4s lipo will kill the ESC or the brushed motor or both. It can hardly handle a 3s, you might be able to get a few runs out of a 3s lipo before the ESC gets fried, or burns up the motor.
      In order to successfully and reliably use a 3s or 4s lipo in this car you'll need to upgrade the ESC and the motor (go with a brushless system).
