I absolutely loved your story Rusty, thanks for sharing! It was enlightening and inspiring to hear your experiences and how it changed your worldview. I really hope we get more stories, perhaps interviews of other lifelong mechanics and riders?
Really enjoyed this vid! That statement at :19 really resonates with me. I am retired and just like to tinker and work on bikes. Makes me feel good inside, like I still have some worth in life.
Thank you, so inspiring. After decades of not riding bicycle, within the last several years the love of cycling was reborn. I’ve never really tinkered with bikes, but I want to learn. I am going to volunteer at a bike shop to learn how to work on them.
I share your passion for bikes and restoring old bikes (in my spare time). Bringing them back to life. And I am grateful to see someone who is so humble and grateful. You are like a breath of fresh air in today's chaotic world. Cheers mate!!
I can thank an old mission comp for influencing me onto the path of cycling which has had a profoundly positive influence on my life. Thanks for sharing.
Rusty, thank you so much. It seems to be the simple and small things that make our lives bigger and ever so much happier. It's never just about the bike. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for this story! It really did touch my heart. My dream is to become a bicycle mechanic so I work on my family’s bike as well as my own as much as I can. This really inspired me so just thank you so much. Have a blessed day!
I appreciate your story. I was serving in an area where the risk of bike theft was higher, so I walked or bussed everywhere. We were not given bikes. But, now that I know how to wrench on bikes, I help out the local missionaries with their bikes. Too many of the missionaries just don't know how to maintain their bikes. It is too bad to see even the littlest points of maintenance forgotten.
Thank you so much for that story and now I wanna be bike mechanic I learn so much about bike and I make money with fixing some random people and thank you so much for keeping me up
Really enjoying all your vids, Rusty! I wrenched a bit a few years at a bike cooperative. Waiting for delivery of my first repair stand of my own the next few days. I like what you say about trying is more important than getting it right the first time! Cheers dude!
Great story. I started by owning a bottom of the line Norco Mountaineer . I used it for offroading and I had to very swiftly learn to fix my own bike and watch others as i did not have the cash . About a year later a shop i hung out at daily hired me as i sold more bikes in 2 weeks than all the employees and owners combined.
@@CoolBikeProjects Thank you for the reply. and yes i was ecstatic indeed. I was selling GT's in 1996 and that was the heyday for them . We test rode all built bikes and all cables were pre stretched so the free tune up after purchase was rarely used except by those who just wanted to be at a shop.
As an atheist, I want to tell you that the story of opening the hub is one of your personal courage of facing the unknown. It could stand alone as an inspiration even outside of the context of faith. Great video!
Bravo, my friend, how long you been posting these videos? I wish I had known, LUV it. I read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle maintenance years ago....irreplaceable, reference on several levels.
Thanks Mike, I started back in October of last year. Its been a good way to clean out the garage and bring back some memories. Hopefully my kids will appreciate these down the road 😇
Am I looking to get a schwinn hollywood or something like one how do you like the ride on the hollywood. I have a 76 continental and 72 varsity i love the old steel stuff anyway great vid
Awesome video! Was your mission in Oakland Ca? The pic overlooking the city below reminded me of my mission home on Lincoln way in Oakland. That Schwinn deserved the love you gave it!
I'm so old, I vaguely remember a bike like the blue one they're washing - especially the comb sized, metal bar on the rear, that, if I recall, is a brake component. Right? Hello TH-cam - is anyone there?
@@CoolBikeProjects I'm dealing with homelessness right now and I really want to learn how to work on Bikes. Could u help me purchase a Bike please? I was working for Door Dash last yr I was laid off. Great story. I plan on working in a bike shop when I retire. I worked at one in high school. I absolutely loved it.
That is awesome John! When I retire I’d like to open up a bicycle co-op and teach kids how to work on bikes.
This is so great and love the story and experiences of your journey becoming a bike mechanic. Awesome job on the restoration. Cheers.

I was in the Sacramento mission but we came over to Oakland for the temple.

I have a similar story from my mission in Montana. Constantly working on other missionaries bikes. Which CA mission did you serve in?
Thanks Todd, I was in the Sacramento mission 97-99
hey now, i'm in kansas too. wondering if you might consider building a trek 930 w/ newer components for me..
Molto carina 👌🚲
Question why does my pulley go up when I peddle hard?
As someone who is wondering to take a bike designer class or not...thanks.
I love Mountain Bikes I definitely want to be a Bike Mechanic as a second job. It will help me pay for school getting back to college
That is awesome. Let me know how I can help.

Yes you can
I fell into wrenching on bikes ass backwards. You cant really fall into being a lawyer or doctor ass backwards.
just a music video
I thought God didn't want to be bothered w/ small issues, like bike problems.
I believe he’s in the details of our lives 😇
