    "Excuse me, Can you help me? I'm a spy."
    Right up there with Mr Spock walking up to a guard saying "Excuse me sir, There is a crawling creature on your left shoulder."
    and then knocking him out with the Vulcan neck pinch.

    When Nation was on form he was a terrific writer. See series one of Blake's 7 as a good example. This too (granted, this was script edited by the great Bob Holmes).

      Nation usually needed a strong script editor, as he could leave holes in plots. There are quite a few in Keys of Marinus. He did some brilliant work for the ABC series of the sixties, Department S, etc.

    This episode I saw in Australia in 1979 and it scared me. And my children have seen the series. And now my grandchildren have seen it. And they love it. Michael Wisher as Davros what a actor. I am guessing that Davros is a combo of Dr Frankenstein, Joseph Mengele and Adolf Hitler rolled into one. And the pace maker had just came out. And bio-medical research was just beginning

      Re. Davros as Adolf Hilter.
      You're on the money, there.
      Terry Nation's original vison for the Daleks was to create a monster emulating the evil of the Nazis. This is most notable in Genesis, which TN wrote...
      Davors was a single revered mad man who commamded total loyalty, the Kaled elite military were the SS, and the Daleks were the superior race sent forth to exterminate the Thals (the Jews), and then go on to rule and reign.
      Also, within the Kaled elite was an attempt to remove Davros from power and instll another leader - Valkyrie. I'm not sure if that was TN's intention, but its an interesting parallel.
      I first saw this story - like you, in Australia - in 1977 aged 11. _None_ of this was apparent to me until many, many years later. It's now my most favourite story out of the whole series.

    I am not really sure why the formula is seen as a strategy of some sort by Davros. Either his machines can kill everyone, or him giving things to the enemy can. I guess it is slightly more explainable, but not that different. I guess maybe it was supposed to be a sort of lead to a response to the enemy, but they were already doing a pretty good job of killing each other.

    • @blakesliberator3197
      @blakesliberator3197 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Davros had _one_ aim - to create the Dalek to rule and reign above all.
      Davros allowed the Thals to destroy the Kaled dome because the Kaled council elected to shut down Davros' campaign. The dome was destroyed, alone with the council. The remaining Kaleds were the elite commanded by Davros. Ronson became the very ideal scapegoat as the 'Thal spy'. And, straight afterwards, Davros unleashed the Daleks against the Thals in retaliation.
      It was actually a risk-laden, bold and cunning strategy.

      Life support and medical repair stuff in his chair which also put him in suspended animation until the Daleks came to find him in Destiny of the Daleks. Some speculate that in addition to this The Doctor’s warning about his creations made Davros paranoid enough to activate a force field function in his chair.
