Ironically some have theorized that Aizen's goal will lead to a shallow, lonely existence. At best he'd occasionally swoop down to terrorize those he sees as beneath him, witch knowing him is everyone except Kisuke and likely Ichigo, while also sometimes cultivating some pawn to try and challenge him. It's ultimately a fairly simple go nowhere goal. He's a genius for sure but his godly ego blinds him to see that's it's all a dead end road. At least Kisuke for having once literally killed to keep the status quo stagnant, has made a massive turn around in the postwar era, allowing his tech become available to everyone in Soul Society from noble to Rukon peasant.
Yeah he could’ve absolutely won and become god… but then what? In CFYOW Tosen literally asks that his reward be that Aizen kills him after he succeeds because he’s done terrible things in the name of justice. And Aizen even says he would lose a “loyal retainer” I think it would be a very lonely and empty existence for sure. And maybe deep down he recognized that and the Hōgyoku reacted to the desire like Ichigo says
I absolutely love how you mentioned how Aizen really embodies freedom. He can be such an arrogant and malicious person but his motivations are both so simple and complex. He’s also the rare villain character who survives! So we actually see some character growth when he talks positively of humans and courage at the end of Bleach.
