If you losing compression is it even worth changing the cylinder head and gasket

Thank you for posting this. My coolant is magically disappearing. Oil looks good, did a compression test and compression is good, but cooling system isn't holding pressure under a test. Pulling the valve covers tomorrow to check for signs of coolant evaporating, but all signs point to head replacement. I'm a weekend warrior mechanic, and this will be the largest task to date on my suburban by far, so I appreciate this video. How long did the job take you?

I think it ended up taking around 12 hours. This was in the my freezing garage which my truck barely fit in. This was the biggest thing i had done. I can tell you a couple things since then. Dont cheap out on cylinder heads, gaskets, or head bolts. I used cheap gaskets on this and 3 months later i was having the same problem. I used a cheap reman cylinder heads and now i have a leak in the valve seal. Cheap head bolts and they can snap when torquing.

I would go with felpro. Also, pick up a repair manual at the autoparts store. Super great to have. One last piece of advice. If you can pull the engine do it. I was super intimidated by the notion, but in order to swap the cylinder heads you are 85% the way to having the engine ready to be pulled. It absolutely is worth figuring out. Far less head ache taking the heads off and putting them back on, Especially when it comes to torquing them. If you have any questions let me know. Thanks for watching and good luck.
