That is not a pulse jet. From the sound it is a turbojet. Probably one of the small turbojets made from auto turbo charger parts. Pulse jets need a long tail cone to set up the acoustic wave that causes the pulsing.

Yeah, but most don't understand that. Maybe they also buy those micro jet engines for RC planes. They are affordable and some have up to 200 - 300N. I guess that would be faster and easier than building new jet engines

As well, pulse jets, all the way back to the Nazi Doodlebug, need airflow to work, they can't be run without existing intake pressure, if it had RATO bottles it might well be, but it runs at standstill and takes off under its own power.

Only if both sides fail to gain air superiority like in Ukraine. If you have dozens of squadrons of stealthy F-35s with sensor fusion communicating with the entire wing of support aircraft and other attack aircraft then you take control of the skies and hence the battlefield. Then you just pound from the air and decimate anything in the area you want to advance into and clean up with artillery and drones.
Russia doesn't have this and instead can only dip their toes into nearby airspace momentarily to launch missiles or gravity glide bombs that can barely reach the front lines without their air assets getting sniped by surface to air. And when they do save up long enough to launch a salvo across the entirety of Ukraine every month or so, many of the munitions get shot down because again they don't have control of the skies and Ukraine still has plenty of air to air system to keep them at arms length which reduces the impact of Russia's air attacks.
But once a country loses in the skies then they will lose their air to air systems on the ground eventually leaving them completely vulnerable to all of their military production and infrastructure being knocked out. This means no drone manufacturing. But again Russia doesn't have this capability and of course neither does Ukraine so they are fighting out a frontline battle with artillery and drones which act really as just fancy artillery in a classic artillery battle.

It's clearly not powered by a pulse jet, but by a turbojet or turbofan. Pulse or ram jets use the shape of the engine to compress the air before adding the fuel & igniting it. They need forward momentum to compress the air, so they can't start at 0 speed like this drone can. So it must have a more complicated engine, like a turbojet, or a much more complicated engine, a turbofan, to compress the air before feeding it into the engine for ignition.

Since it can start from standstill at a runway, this is obvious. Also Ukraine has already sayed its a turbofan jet engine.

Engine sounds like a pulse jet, another thing they did not mention about a pulse jet is cost, it's much simpler and easier to make than a turbo fan, the germans made it in WWII. Things could get really useful if they could get western companies to make components this outside of Ukraine, truck it in, assemble it at small work shops, and fire these on mass at targets all over the front. Most likely you could fire 5 or 10 of these for the cost of 1 S300 interceptor, and you only need 1 to hit something to get a return on investment. The man in the loop option is interesting, but I still think it has GPS guidance and INS.

The Palianytsia's capabilities suggest a versatile and advanced system. Here’s a breakdown of what we know:
    1. **Remote Piloting & Autonomy**: The Palianytsia can be remotely piloted at low altitudes to evade radar, and it has precision guidance for both autonomous and remotely piloted missions.
    2. **Surveillance & Reconnaissance**: It can be used for intelligence gathering, highlighting its adaptability for various roles beyond direct strikes.
    3. **Potential for Drone Swarms**: The concept of using a piloted drone as a leader for a stream of autonomous drones aligns with modern swarm tactics. This could allow for coordinated attacks or reconnaissance, with the lead drone guiding others.
    4. **Advanced Payloads**: The ability to carry cluster munitions enhances its effectiveness against a range of targets, including airfields and production facilities.
The system's design and operational flexibility suggest it could play a significant role in Ukraine’s strategic and tactical operations, especially if it can lead or coordinate groups of drones.

This 'PALIANYTSIA' design doesn't reflect a load-carrying capacity. It appears it would NOT do the damage one would think for its size. Sure it might have an improved range, but would only carry a small payload no different from the existing UAVs. If they copy the WW11 V-1 'DOODLE BUG design, they could then carry 850kg of high explosives using the pulse jet principle. This Ukranian is nothing but a toy. To see it take off using 'billy cart' wheels proves my point. I champion the Ukraine people for trying.
