There is nothing quite like an uncomfortable backpack!!
There are a lot of things to consider when buying a backpack and weight is just one of them! I have 3 ultralight backpacks and sometimes they just won't work for what your needs are. I love my ULA Circuit and it fits and carries well, but I'm tired of the "big black hole" method of backpack organization and I don't love the roll-top closure. I have a ULA Catalyst which is the bigger version of the Circuit, but I could never get that one to carry comfortably. I wanted to love the Gossamer Gear Mariposa but could never get the hip belt dialed in, and by the time we had to stop on one particular backpacking trip I could hardly take another step because my shoulders were hurting so much. I just ordered a Gregory Kalmia pack and it's more than a pound heavier than my ULA Circuit, but I'm hoping it works for me. The Kalmia has more pockets and a brain, which I hope will keep me more organized. I also hope it will stand up on its own without falling over!
Thank you for the comment! I really can relate to the shoulder pain. I was feeling the same on my test of the Rook 65; I made it home but it hurt. The Osprey Atmos 65 that I highlight in the video seems to be good. I have taken it out 3 times and all is well, so far.
Hey buddy! Saw you in the NTEB chat today. My offer is still good, we'll feed you if you make it to Coos Bay. It's a little out of rout from the PCT but if you get lost and find yourself here... LOL. I like your channel and plan on following you on your trip. Best regards, good luck, have fun and God bless, Jhudson
Thank you so much for your kind offer. We shall see how things go. I estimate being in Oregon some time in June. I will keep in touch.
I have ultralight packs And then medium weight packs like the Osprey kestrel It seems the lightweight packs are only good with lightweight loads
I have the osprey Atmos excellent pack very comfortable pack ,if you're carrying a lot of weight .The pack itself is a little heavy 4.5 pounds and tends to be Squeaky . But I found that if I'm carrying anything over 25 pounds It's the pack I want to take. It's hard to beat wide straps and a very supportive hip built would say they could make the pockets on the hip belt better
Yes I am with you there. I am OK with a heavier pack (that handles the weight) as long as it is comfortable. Never had any squeaky issues with it, so far.
@@PlantPapaJohn My atmos Is going on 15 years old So they may have fixed this quick problem I never really noticed it until this last year Could be that it's just old got too many miles on it
Just curious why you are sticking to two brands. There are many options out there. I love my ULA Circuit and I’m 60 with some back problems.
Be picky! I finally found mine. ULA OHM. I went through 4 packs. Every BODY is different. Not all packs are universal.
I’ll add, I don’t carry more than 25 lbs in mine ever. It starts hurting then.
I am now up to 8, but have settled on the Osprey Atmos 65 that you see in the video.
@@belleyupable I will be around 35 pounds with water and camera gear
I'm so sorry. Nothing worse than a pack that doesn't fit well. I'm a Gregory fan, and hoped that it'll work for you too.
I hope you find the winner soon!
I have decided on the Osprey Atmos 65. I did do a couple of modifications to the pack to make it more comfortable. I have tried a total of 8 different packs now, but the Atmos 65 seemed to be the best fit for me, although not perfect.
@@PlantPapaJohn good luck and I'll be following along for sure!
