After being introduced to this channel I have never imagined that shoes could cost so much and be works of art. I'd be almost afraid to wear them outside.
Wow! Those may be the nicest shoes I have ever seen. They did an amazing job with patina and light and dark highlights that run across side of the shoe. Now those I can maybe justify the premium for but a pair of the black cap toe oxfords are just droll. Would not shell out bespoke $$ for those. Well done Kirby and Mr. Cleverley!

Hi Kirby, You should try a Baron de Rede with a hand-sewn piecrust apron as your next loafer, or a mid brown wingtip. I'd love an updated review on your first pair of Barons, as they look really nicely worn in, patina looks brilliant.
Gorgeous shoes. Personally, I would buy the alligator skin separately (about $900 from my guy in Louisiana), then ship them to Laszlo Vass in Hungary, where he charges me about $600 for bespoke craftsmanship. Total cost is around $1,600 US dollars vs. $6,100 that Kirby paid. GC makes a beautiful shoe...not sure they’re worth the money over Vass.
Intro sequence is nice, but the music is too epic sounding. It doesn’t fit the “classy” motif that characterizes the channel. Why not a jazz piece or something?
And Beethoven’s music was originally a shocking abomination to the refined classical tastes of Viennese society. What’s your point? Today soft jazz is generally considered what certain people of refined tastes listen to. It’s more fitting with the general mood and content of the channel than the epic intro.
You called this the "suspiciously square" toe. To me, these look like the Anthony Cleverley toe, rather than the "suspiciously square" toe. The Anthony Cleverly toe is a sharper and more elongated square toe as compared to the "suspiciously square" toe, though not as sharp and elongated as french toes. Next step up in production quality would be to have color correction for your different cameras. The color difference when you switch cameras is pretty significant.
Surprisingly, we spend quite a bit of time doing this... probably the most difficult part of our workflow. If you are familiar with color correction, I'm sure you know how difficult it can be.

Fantastic shoes and it raises a question I’ve had in my mind for a while now. You said it fits like a glove, as it is bespoke. When wearing such shoes during a hot summer day, your foot expands and as a consequence doesn’t it become uncomfortable?

Mr Allison, I am a college student on a budget building a gentleman’s wardrobe. Although I am already in possession of a fine collection of dress shirts, a navy suit, a blue plaid, and a dark tuxedo, I do not have a grey suit I’ve been wanting to invest in. On the other hand, I have two leather oxfords that are black and chestnut in color, along with some black wholecuts with a mirror shine for black tie. Should I make an effort to invest in some summer loafers that are leather ? Or should I invest in a grey suit? What do you suggest and please explain why I should or shouldn’t invest in either.... thank you

You might prefer a bespoke side-gusseted shoe to that style of loafers?GC does those. Makes penny-loafers look like cap toe derbies vs whole-cut oxfords. Therefore, should feel more refined? Are black loafers a conflict of formality? They are a casual design in a formal color, much like black brogues. Should black loafers be avoided or are there occasions to wear them?
Why do they rattle back and forth on the flat surface Kirby? Those seem like something that will give me a sprained ankle.... The level of craftsmanship is Amazing however!
When you load the shoe with weight, it sits flat. What you are seeing is the unique "twisted last" that George Cleverley invented. We have a video airing this SUNDAY with John Carnera, Cleverley's senior lastmaker. He describes how Geroge Cleverley invented this as a technique to increase the volume of the shoe while keeping it narrow. By twisting, or elongating the last, he was able to add volume while keeping a sleek silhouette.

Honestly I prefer these without the fiddleback. I like the clean, simple bottom. The waist is still very narrow. No need to build it up just for show.
